Chapter 5
“What? Why is the book like this?” Tezen has been making a fuss since morning. I yawned and looked away, pretending not to notice. “Why is it torn like this?” Tezen frowned and then turned to look at me. “Slave, do you know why the book I had here is like this?” How stupid. No matter how hard you ask me, there’s only one thing I can say in answer. “Kyuung.” Of course, I was the one who did it yesterday, but I put my faith in the distraction of this naughty fourteen-year-old boy. Obviously, he will search for it in a hurry and then forget about it. “What….Did my magic power go out of control while I was sleeping? I shook my head, listening to Tezen’s utterly useless worry. ‘I won’t be able to sleep comfortably now. Those with power really do suffer.” He sounded anguished like he truly believed he was a great wizard. ‘Ah, I should have believed in his pride, not distraction.’ While I was clicking my tongue inwardly, Tezen searched the entire room for the torn bookshelf. And I left the useless things of the world behind and hid the chestnuts the maid had given me in the corner of the room. Even though I knew there was no need to hide it, I kept hiding the food in the corner as if possessed. I guess it was probably instinct. “Ah…. is gone. How far did I go with my magic?” After searching around here and there for a while, Tezen lay down on the bed, panting from exhaustion. Then he looked at me with arrogant eyes and said, “Hey, come and calm me down.” ‘What are you talking about? What on earth are you trying to calm down?’ I went into a corner, eating my food diligently, then frowned and looked back at him. “I’m a little tired because I used too much magic power.” ‘Well, I think it’s not magic power but physical strength…’ When I tilted my head, Tezen suddenly got angry. “Why don’t you come quickly? My mother bought you for a lot of money, so I should get my money’s worth!” It was impossible to calm down a tired person, but Tezen’s talking was just too loud. So I took a deep breath, ran over to him, and placed my front paw on his forehead. “Hmm.” Tezen tilted his head and muttered. “Is this supposed to calm me down?” No, of course not. “Just stay here for a while, slave. It seems like my shortness of breath will subside a little.” That’s because you’re lying down and resting, idiot. But there was no need to go against Tezen’s wishes, so I half-heartedly placed my paw on his forehead. ‘I wonder if Yohan is reading a book. I think I tore out the part that Tezen was reading. I don’t know what’s written in the book, so I can tell if I brought him the right one.’ I tilted my head and thought. ‘From now on, we have to help each other for 50 days, but it’s really uncomfortable because we can’t communicate.’ That was then. I started to hear the sound of rain, accompanied by the sound of gurgling. “Uh?” Tezen, who had been lying down exhausted, opened his eyes wide. “Is it raining?” There was a hint of anticipation in his voice. He sounded excited, unlike the annoyance he’d expressed all morning about his missing book. ‘What the heck? Are you some kind of earthworm that gets so excited when it rains?’ While I was grumbling inwardly, Tezen put me on his shoulder and ran excitedly to the window. “Slave, I’ll show you something fun.” “Kyuung?” “Look over there. When it’s raining, the patient starts walking.” Tezen smirked and pointed to the garden outside the window. “Kyuung!” I was so shocked by the sight before my eyes that I ended up banging on the window. “Are you excited too?” Tezen tapped my head while giggling. It was more like hitting me than saying tap. That’s why my little head was spinning. But that wasn’t the point right now. The sight outside the window was too horrifying. “Kyuuung!” I was angry, but my feelings were not conveyed. “It’s fun, right?” In the garden, Yohan was being led around by a maid and was getting drenched in the rain. Under normal circumstances, Yohan would never have been dragged around by a maid like that. He was tall and strong for a sixteen-year-old boy. But even though Yohan stayed still, his whole body was in pain as if it was being torn apart. So, he was barely able to move, staggering along as the maid dragged him along. Even the maid was holding an umbrella. “He’s sick, and his doctor says it’s good for him to get some rain.” Is there an illness that requires you to get caught in the rain on purpose? “He said it was good for his body, although it made him feel sluggish and weak.” I stared at Tezen’s face in disbelief. Seeing Tezen so happy, everyone in the mansion seemed to know that this was a fake treatment. “Well, since my poor brother is out for a walk, so I should go too.” Tezen rolled up his sleeves and left the room. Left alone in the room, I banged on the window once more in frustration. ‘No, not only did you neglect the sick child due to the magic overload, but you also tormented him like that.…’ ‘It’s obvious they’re just trying to make him sicker, to make him really weak.’ If he keeps getting rained on wearing such thin clothes in this weather, it’s obvious he’ll catch a cold. Although I had only recently met Yohan, I felt the sympathy and anger that any human being would feel. Besides, Yohan was a nice, gentle boy, so innocent that it was sad that he would grow up to be a villain. ‘But when you are always rolling like that…it’s only natural for your character to get dirty. How can a child grow up straight and upright in such an environment?’ When I thought of Yohan’s sad purple eyes and sad smile, the conclusion came to me. ‘Innocent, Yohan is innocent! Innocent anyway!’ I think about the later chapters of the original story where he tries to get his hands on the female protagonist by plotting all sorts of schemes. ‘What should I do? If Tezen joins, it’ll be worse.’ If Tezen rushes out, something worse will probably happen. There was nothing more to think about. After collecting the acorns, I slipped out through the gap in the window and landed on a nearby tree. Before Tezen arrived, the first plan was to deal with the maid who was holding him back. * * * Yohan bit his lower lip in pain as he felt the rain hitting his skin. The worst thing for a wizard whose magical powers were running wild was hypothermia. Hyrad’s doctor, who had been bribed by Ella, must have known this fact and prescribed that treatment. If they can prescribe fake treatment like that and displaying Yohan’s miserable condition in public in front of the servants was a clear indication of who Hyrad’s current master was. Fortunately, these days, thanks to the squirrel’s visits, he was in much less pain than last time. “Let’s do a couple more laps, young master.” As the cold rain began to fall, the maid who had been leading him, who had lost all strength in his body, said nonchalantly. “Excuse me, just a minute.…let’s take a break….” John pleaded under his breath, but the maid would not listen to him. Ella and Tezen would be watching from somewhere as he was dragged staggering through the garden. “No, Young master. You must get well soon.” There was no one on his side in this mansion. His father, the Duke of Hyrad, had been going to war for more than a decade. And everyone was guessing that the war in the South was far from over. Moreover, the Empire was clearly losing ground and casualties were mounting. It was unlikely that Duke Hyrad would be able to return home anytime soon. Therefore, the entire dukedom was in Ella’s hands, and Yohan’s fate was also decided. There was only one reason why he could keep struggling and surviving. If Duke Hyrad were to die on the battlefield, they would have to send another to the battlefield following the duty of the nobility. Ella didn’t even want to think about sending Tezen there. Therefore, she wanted to keep Yohan in the palace as a reserve, making him weaker and weaker, keeping only his life attached. “Come on, let’s go quickly.” John glared at the back of the maid’s head and gritted his teeth. It’s going to be even more painful when Tezen comes soon. Whenever he went for a walk on a rainy day like this, his half-brother would show up and do all sorts of mischief. ‘Let’s be patient…’ Before, he was just writhing in pain, but now there is hope. If the squirrel continues to calm him down, all of that overflowing, raging magic power will disappear. If only he could finish it, he could use that magical power. Then everyone in the mansion will kneel at Yohan’s feet. Because he also knew that his magical power was enormous. ‘Tonight…..the squirrel will come, and I’ll feel better….’ He breathed heavily as he thought of the squirrel that had placed its paw on his forehead. And naturally, the thought of brown hair, round pink eyes, and a cute face came to his mind. Suddenly, Yohan felt a strange surge of emotion. ‘So, the squirrel and I are just using each other.…’ John assured himself to think that the squirrel was on his side to steady himself from getting weaker. That was when. “Ahh! My eyes!” Suddenly, the maid who had been leading him screamed and covered her eyes. Yohan suddenly raised his head. An acorn flew in quickly from somewhere and hit the maid’s remaining eye. Yohan stared blankly at the acorn rolling on the ground. * * *
