Chapter 101: Chapter 101 The Destruction of the Tower
The ground trembled as a deep, rumbling noise echoed across the snowy highlands. Cracks splintered through the ice like veins of light, and in the distance, the towering structures that once touched the sky crumbled into dust. The Tower of Babel had fallen.
A furious shriek split the cold air.
"Damn it, humans!"
The Herrscher of the Void usually composed and indifferent was now seething with rage.
This wasn't how it was supposed to go.
She had planned to revel in humanity's despair, watching from her throne as her beasts ripped through their ranks. She had been untouchable—immune to their weapons, their attacks bouncing harmlessly off the layers of space she twisted around herself.
But Orion had somehow broken through her defenses. Now, the Herrscher of the Void was vulnerable.
She however was still confident she could recover from this as she could feel her control over space gradually return.
Though the fall of the Tower of Babel had thrown the battlefield into disarray, the Moth soldiers adapted quickly, preventing any large-scale losses.
The same couldn't be said for the Honkai Beasts. The shockwave from the Tower's destruction had ripped through their horde, turning many of them into little more than splattered remains on the icy terrain. If there were a "kill count" for the battle, the Herrscher of the Void herself would be leading—ironically, thanks to her own recklessness.
"Sir Orion!"
Destobia, a lucky new recruit, saw Orion hurt and ran to him.
"Are you okay?"
Orion's condition was bad—his wounds were severe. Destobia tried not to be shocked.
"It's okay, it's just a fatal injury," Orion said with a weak smile, not realizing how disturbing his state was.
"Do you want me to...?"
Orion shook his head and sat down, showing he didn't need help. Destobia thought about how to arrange his funeral.
A strange, crystalline substance began forming around Orion's wounds, glowing faintly in the dim battlefield light. Before her eyes, the gashes started closing, the damaged tissue knitting itself back together at an impossible speed. His armor, once torn and ruined, was restored to pristine condition.
Destobia's breath caught in her throat.
Orion Astra stood, his silver eyes gleaming with an unnatural light. He turned to her, his expression unreadable.
"Don't tell anyone about this," he murmured.
Destobia swallowed hard. "Okay."
She wasn't sure she'd even be believe if she tried.
Orion stood up. The battle was looking better; the number of Honkai Beasts was decreasing.
If the Herrscher of the Void was gone, they might be able to win this.
"And before victory, someone needs to take out the commander."
Orion's eyes shone like a star. The world around him became black and white as he used his powers observe the current world around him.
In the black-and-white world, he saw the Herrscher of the Void hiding in the smoke-filled sky.
"I found you!"
Orion leaped into the air, using his remaining strength to move. He created platforms to jump on and appeared in front of the Herrscher of the Void.
The Herrscher of the Void, now partially recovered her control over space as she planned to escape through the void back to her own realm. She was confident she could recover and defeat Orion later.
Orion was determined to finish this before she could escape. He had set up a surprise for her buried back in her realm by Orion during their fight.
As the Herrscher of the Void entered the door, Orion activated the weapon.
"You fool you've activated my trap card!"
A massive wave of energy burst through the portal she opened.
The Herrscher of the Void tried futility to escape, but Orion pushed her into the portal just as the weapon went off.
Orion fell from the sky, his body badly hurt. The heat from the explosion scattered the clouds, and the sun shone brightly on the battlefield.
The Moth soldiers watched in awe. Orion , now unconscious, lay in the snow, barely visible.
"Who's going to help Chief Orion?"
The soldiers were stunned, but the battle was nearly over. They had defeated most of the Honkai Beasts, and built solid teamwork though the fight.
In a corner, a mysterious woman who had shot an arrow earlier hummed a song and watched Orion lying in the snow with a smile.
