Chapter 7: Chapter 7: Potions or Poison?
The library was very empty, most students were still at lunch, while the rest at the courtyard, but that didn't stop Obelia from walking in with a bold walk in order to scare away the shy crowd.
She noticed Hermione but walked right passed, in this world, they were nothing more than strangers. She greeted the librarian named Madam Pince and listened intently to the rules of the library Madam Pince was saying.
Obelia nodded her head and looked around noticing a large window call her name. She sat down near it and pulled out a gray notebook. Words filled every page of the book, and she flipped the pages quickly scanning each before pausing on a messy page.
'Magic marbles are such a pain…'
Magic marble needed three things to work, a perfect spell, something to contain the spell, and a medium for both to combine. Obelia who was a Squid would act as the medium, weaving the spell into the glass marble. She often felt like Rumpelstiltskin, except instead of taking a woman's first-born child she would take their magic.
She quickly flipped the pages again, arriving on another messy page filled with random notes and words scattered around. She glanced at the small bottle drawn on the page, feeling uneasy, she closed her notebook and placed it back in her cloak.
'I need more wizard blood… should I ask my parents? My uncle?' Obelia glanced out the window before popping her knuckles with her thumb. 'I can get it on my own…' She quickly shook the thought out of her head before getting up and heading to the alchemy section. There was no way of knowing if Dumbledore had eyes around Hogwarts like in the movie or novel, and she didn't want to risk it.
'I've read all of these, from beginner to master.' She suddenly felt disappointed, she knew Hogwarts had limited books few people could get their hands on and wondered where they were hidden. 'Isn't there a forbidden section? Oh, wasn't it called the restricted section?!'
Obelia suddenly felt her head throb in pain and placed her hands on her head. Every time she tried to recall something from her past life it always caused her to feel like her head was going to split. 'Fuck…' Cursin was the only thing Obelia could do at that moment, she had to face the pain head-on.
___
"Why did we come to potion class so early? No one is here.' Obelia turned to look at Draco who was picking a seat near the professor's desk.
"Father told me to leave a good impression, and if I do The House Cup will be ours." Draco arranged the textbooks neatly and smiled.
"What's so good about The House Cup? I heard the only thing it does is change the color of the banners in the Great Hall."
Obelia sat next to Draco and pulled out the textbooks necessary for the class. She overheard many things in the library and was satisfied with the decision to go there.
'Potion making required minimal wand waving, and I heard Snape partner's people in groups of two when making potions' Obelia smiled and realized as long as she convinced Draco to do all the magic she would pass the class with flying colors.
Draco started to frown when looking at Obelia's smile, he could tell she wasn't focused on the conversation of The House Cup at all and didn't understand the significance of it. "It's about winning, proving we are better than the other houses," Draco said crossing his arms and looking at Obelia.
Obelia rolled her eyes and started looking at her nails before glancing at Draco. "If we are better then there should be no need to compare." Obelia knew Slytherin was going to lose The House Cup and only said that to comfort Draco, "We shouldn't even need to try…" Obelia once again looked at her nails before remembering something.
'I hate losing…' Obelia suddenly felt mad remembering Gryffindor's win, she believed it was unfair and the favoritism talking. 'Don't students work hard for The House Cup? All of that was thrown out the window'
Obelia noticed her brows frown and quickly composed herself. 'I got mad at such a childish thing…' Obelia got rid of her thoughts and began to flip through the textbook, not noticing Draco nod at her pointing out how the other houses couldn't even compare to them.
Both of them seemed to always misunderstand eachother, never actually speaking clearly about what they think.
___
Draco and Obelia waited a long time before Slytherin and Gryffindor students walked in, they all stayed close to their houses mate's. Draco and Obelia seemed to be thinking the same thing as they both glanced at the students coming in waiting for a certain somebody.
"You think he's going to be late?" Draco asked, noticing Obelia glance around the classroom. She nodded, "He probably can't find the classroom, it took us quite a while as well." Obelia said remembering how long it took for them to find the potions class hidden far from the top floors.
"You think he's gonna get schooled by the professor?" Draco asked smiling at Obelia, already knowing the answer. "He is, but I doubt points will be taken since it's the first day," Obelia said before noticing the clock and sitting down quickly.
'What an entrance…' Obelia noticed the tall man walk in as soon as class was supposed to start. His black cloak trailed behind him and Obelia could tell just by a glance…This man was looking down on them.
'I thought we could get along, but one of us will need to learn to stand down.' Obelia suddenly felt a need to be superior, not liking the way Snape looked at the students, she felt like he was looking a them as specks of dust.
'Potion Master my ass, making potions isn't even hard, just tedious, can he be considered such a thing?' Obelia had a habit of talking badly about others viewed as superior to most, she knew she had a superior complex and decided to think about how useful the potions class would be in order to take her mind of such thoughts.
'If he is good at making potions he should also be good at making poison,… wait aren't they the same thing? I need poison…' Obelia was in deep thought for a moment before noticing three figures walk in gasping for air, she also noticed the small smile on Draco's face.
"You're late… explain." Obelia didn't remember what exactly happened in the movie but suddenly felt a sense of joy, seeing others suffer was always fun.
