Chapter 12: Chapter 12
*Crack!*
Lumine held a short sword in her hand and slashed it down onto the Anemo core.
At that moment, a shard of ice suddenly flew toward her.
Lumine was slightly startled but didn't dodge. Instead, she swiftly swung her short sword.
"Not good!"
Famas was alarmed, and a red Pyro shield immediately formed in front of Lumine.
*Melt.*
The attacker was a light blue Abyss Mage, floating in the air with its ice shield.
"Gohus, Chiso Vonph…" (Abyssal language)
"A Slime with intelligence? How rare. I wonder what reward His Highness will give me when he finds out."
"His Highness? Who's that?"
Lumine cautiously stepped back, but before she could finish her question, a Pyro orb shot out from Famas's mouth, speeding toward the Abyss Mage.
Just a Cryo Abyss Mage—once its shield was broken, it would be easy pickings.
"What?!"
The Abyss Mage didn't expect Famas to act so decisively.
Shouldn't there be some questions first? Like why it was here? Or what its plans were?!
While the Abyss Mage was still stunned, Famas's Pyro orb had already reached it. The Pyro orb, infused with intense heat, shattered the Cryo shield in an instant.
The orb then struck the Abyss Mage directly.
"Ahhh!"
With a piercing scream, the Abyss Mage was sent flying.
Lumine seized the opportunity. She stepped forward, Anemo energy swirling around her, and quickly closed the distance to the Abyss Mage. Her short sword came down in a fierce slash.
Another scream echoed as the Abyss Mage was cut deeply.
Famas hopped over to the Abyss Mage.
"Wait! Don't you want to know why I'm here? Don't you want to know why Stormterror has gone out of control?"
The Abyss Mage retreated in fear, and Lumine followed, pointing her sword at the cowering mage.
Famas gave the Abyss Mage a look that said, Are you stupid? and then spat another Pyro orb, finishing off the barely-alive mage.
The Abyss Mage disintegrated into blue particles and vanished.
"Lumine, let's head back."
Famas jumped onto Lumine's shoulder and nuzzled her cheek.
"Mm."
Lumine smiled and gently patted Famas.
"Paimon, let's go."
Lumine didn't forget about Paimon either.
"You guys were way too quick!"
Paimon floated over to Lumine, sighing. "Shouldn't we have asked why that Abyss Mage was here?"
"Is there a problem with that?"
Lumine looked at Paimon, puzzled. "Aren't Abyss Mages bad guys? If they're here, they must be up to no good. Besides, it was clearly targeting Famas and the temple. Of course, we had to deal with it quickly."
"Uh…"
Paimon spun in the air, unsure how to respond.
Leaving the Temple of the Falcon, Lumine headed straight back to Mondstadt.
With the temple's power source destroyed, the storm surrounding Mondstadt had noticeably weakened.
Now, it was time to deal with the remaining two temples.
After dealing with a few Hilichurls and Slimes on the way back, Lumine and the others soon arrived at the gates of Mondstadt.
The storm had completely dissipated, and the dark clouds were gone, replaced by a beautiful blue sky.
Clearly, the energy sources of the other two temples had also been destroyed.
"Finally, it's over."
Lumine looked up at the clear sky and couldn't help but smile.
Meanwhile, Famas noticed a fleeting blue figure in the corner of his vision.
"Well, isn't this perfect timing?"
A familiar voice came from behind. Lumine turned to see Kaeya.
However, Kaeya looked a bit worse for wear. His clothes were torn in several places, revealing wounds that were still bleeding slightly. There were also traces of frost on his outfit.
"Are you okay?"
Lumine looked at Kaeya with concern. Despite his usual smile, his current state didn't look good.
"It's nothing serious. Just got ambushed by two Abyss Mages on the way back."
"Though the Four Winds are no longer worshipped, the ancient winds never truly fade."
"Looks like you ran into an ambush too."
A red-haired, red-eyed man walked over, accompanied by the Knights of Favonius' librarian, Lisa.
Famas's eyes widened slightly. The intense and unwavering Pyro energy emanating from this man—anyone who wielded a Pyro Vision like this must be a formidable warrior.
"Diluc…"
When Famas recognized the man, he shrank back a little. He had crossed paths with Diluc before. While all Slimes might look the same, who knew if Diluc could recognize him?
"Seems like you did too."
Kaeya gave Diluc a wry smile.
"It's been dealt with," Diluc said calmly. "It seems the Abyss Order is behind this."
Kaeya fell silent. This matter needed to be reported to Acting Grand Master Jean as soon as possible.
"The Dragon of the East, the Lion of the South, the Wolf of the North, and the Falcon of the West… They are the protectors of the Four Winds of Mondstadt and the familiars of the Anemo Archon, Barbatos. Dvalin—that's the name of Stormterror. Before it was called a dragon of destruction, it was the Dragon of the East, one of the Four Winds. That's why, among the powers of the Four Winds, Dvalin could only borrow three. From the very beginning, it had already been burning itself out."
Lisa glanced at the now-bright Mondstadt.
Lumine asked, puzzled, "Why would it go that far?"
"I think… it's because of hatred."
Famas whispered in response.
Paimon floated over to Famas, curious. "Hatred…?"
Lisa, standing nearby, glanced at the Slime perched on Lumine's shoulder. "Hatred for Mondstadt. Driven by hatred, it turned that hatred into a power stronger than the wind, becoming a dragon of destruction…"
"But why would one of the Four Winds come to hate the very city it was supposed to protect?"
"Well, you can blame your absentee Archon, Barbatos, for that. If this were Natlan, I'd have already captured it and put it to work pulling carts."
Famas shook his head, keeping these thoughts to himself. As Lisa explained the events of centuries ago, the group got to know each other better and began walking back to Mondstadt.
On the way back, Famas secretly eyed the Vision on Diluc's waist. If he could extract the divine power he once had from it, maybe he could take on a human form for a while.
"Hmm?"
As if sensing Famas's gaze, Diluc turned around and locked eyes with the Slime.
"A Slime with intelligence?"
Diluc seemed to recall something and smiled, startling Famas.
"Ahem, no fear, no fear. I'm immune to Pyro. Immune."
Famas averted his gaze.
Once they returned to Mondstadt, he had to find Barbatos and get him to lend a few Pyro Visions.
"All for the sake of becoming human!"
