Chapter 11: Chapter 11
"Ah, so warm."
After taking a bath and changing into fresh clothes, Lumine, Paimon, and Famas lay together on the large bed, stretching comfortably.
Although Lumine didn't understand what Famas meant by "stick close" before the bath, she still helped wipe his body with a towel in the bathroom.
What Famas saw in the bathroom that day remains a mystery to us all.
The wet towel made contact with Famas's body, triggering an Evaporation reaction between Hydro and Pyro elements. For some reason, Lumine felt that Famas's already fiery-red body turned even redder.
"Should we go get something to eat?"
Famas looked helplessly at Lumine, whose head was resting on his body.
A gentle warmth spread to the back of Lumine's head, warming her entire scalp and the back of her ears.
"Ah, Lumine, I want to hug Famas too!"
Paimon, seeing Lumine's head comfortably nestled in Famas's body, widened her eyes and quickly claimed a small spot near Lumine's head.
"Ah, so soft."
Paimon felt that Famas could somehow change his shape freely. Just moments ago, he was only big enough for Lumine's head, but now he extended a part of himself to serve as a pillow for her.
Watching the two of them enjoying themselves, Famas remained silent. Having been one of the Seven Archons for over a thousand years, he had almost forgotten what it felt like to be mortal. Now, seeing the young girl leaning on him, Famas felt a warmth he hadn't experienced in millennia.
The cozy moment lasted only a few minutes.
"Brother…"
Lumine nuzzled her head against Famas again, murmuring a name that struck Famas like a bolt of lightning.
"Am I the clown here!?"
---
The next day, the dawn slowly unveiled itself, and the radiant sunlight bathed Mondstadt. The aftermath of Stormterror's rampage had finally subsided after a night, and a cool, refreshing beam of sunlight shone through the window, landing right on Paimon's bottom.
"Hey, Paimon, time to get up. The sun's shining on your butt."
Famas had been up for a while. To be honest, Famas didn't actually need to sleep—after all, he was a magical creature. But if he didn't sleep, what else was there to do?
"Just five more minutes…"
Paimon clung tightly to Famas's soft body.
Lumine, who had already gotten up, finished changing in the bathroom and came out, picking up Paimon like a little chick.
"You can't keep hugging Famas all the time!"
As Paimon was dragged into the bathroom by Lumine, Famas's body, which had been squished and stretched by the two, instantly returned to its original form. Famas's Slime body was made of liquid, so no matter how much it was pulled or stretched, he wouldn't feel a thing.
In the morning, Lumine and Paimon brought back breakfast, and after a simple meal of the inn's white sauce vegetable stew with meat, they headed out.
"Today's another energetic day!"
Paimon stretched and looked around, noticing that not many people were out yet. The market was still quiet.
"So, what are we doing today?"
Lumine gave Paimon a curious look.
"Of course, we're heading to the Temple of the Falcon."
Famas and Paimon said in unison.
---
Outside Mondstadt.
Famas, Paimon, and Lumine left the main city and were now heading toward one of the Four Winds' Temples—the Temple of the Falcon.
From a hillside, Mondstadt looked like an isolated island surrounded by storms.
"Let's hurry up and deal with Stormterror."
Paimon waved her tiny fist, full of determination.
Lumine nodded and quickened her pace.
Although there were no storms outside Mondstadt, due to Dvalin's influence, Hilichurls and Anemo Slimes were particularly active.
Especially the Anemo Slimes—looking up at the sky, you could see many of them floating around.
Some Anemo Slimes noticed Lumine and the others and immediately launched attacks from above, dropping elemental bombs from the sky.
Famas activated War's Protection, surrounding himself with a Pyro shield.
The elemental bombs fell from the sky, hitting the shield, but due to the difference in strength, the Anemo Slimes' attacks didn't even scratch it.
"Ptooey~"
Famas spat out small Pyro orbs at the sky, most of which hit the Anemo Slimes. However, some of the orbs didn't have enough momentum and fell back down.
This created a peculiar scene: the Anemo Slimes in the sky couldn't break Famas's Pyro shield, and Famas couldn't completely hit the Anemo Slimes either.
"Ptooey~ pfft."
"Ptooey…"
Lumine, who had Famas perched on her shoulder, looked at the battling parties in confusion. She could hear Famas muttering something to the Anemo Slimes as he spat fireballs at them. It sounded like Slime language.
"Move it!"
Famas shouted at the Anemo Slimes.
"No way!"
The Anemo Slimes spat an elemental bomb at Famas.
"Idiots!"
Famas began charging up and then spat out a massive Pyro orb.
"Morons…"
The Anemo Slimes weren't intimidated either. They gathered a large group and created a gust of wind that deflected Famas's Pyro orb.
Aside from the Anemo Slimes, there were also Hilichurls attacking.
Lumine took care of the Hilichurls.
With the Pyro shield, Lumine handled them with ease.
As the battles continued and with Paimon occasionally offering advice, Lumine grew more skilled at controlling her Anemo powers.
Finally, after a lot of grumbling from Famas, the group arrived at the Temple of the Falcon. The ancient temple looked somewhat worn and dilapidated.
"This must be it," Lumine said, looking at the old and weathered temple. She pushed open the stone door, which bore the marks of time.
Inside, they encountered a large group of Slimes and Hilichurls.
They weren't strong and were easily dealt with by Lumine and Famas.
After fighting their way to the depths of the temple, Famas jumped off Lumine's shoulder and walked up to a mural.
"What are you looking at, Famas?"
Paimon appeared beside him, looking puzzled.
"This is a mural from a thousand years ago, depicting the Lionfang Knight Order. It shows Vennessa battling the Demon Dragon Ursa."
Famas explained to Paimon. The mural depicted Vennessa, the leader of the Lionfang Knight Order, holding a short sword and facing the ferocious Demon Dragon Ursa. She looked lonely, but there was no fear in her eyes—only a strange kind of determination.
"Back then, Barbatos was playing his lyre high in the sky, singing for Vennessa. With Barbatos's song, Vennessa defeated the dragon that had been ravaging the land, and even the fat nobles trembled in fear."
"'Mondstadt is freedom'—those were the final lyrics Barbatos sang. Vennessa, still a young girl, stood tall in the wind, finally free from her chains. That was the first strike of rebellion in Mondstadt."
Famas explained to Paimon, his thoughts drifting back to the past. A thousand years ago, when Barbatos was still just a wind spirit, he had recklessly traveled to the war-torn nation of Natlan, hoping to borrow their army to save his friend—a bard who had never seen the sky.
At the time, Famas was watching a match in Natlan's coliseum. A tattered and dusty wind spirit flew into the blood-soaked arena and immediately recognized Famas among the cheering crowd. It flew up to him and, in an ancient spirit language Famas couldn't understand, told him about the oppressed Mondstadt and its hope for freedom.
"Did I forget something?"
Famas suddenly looked up at Lumine, who was preparing to destroy the Stormterror core.
"I think I forgot to go find Barbatos…"
