Game Of Thrones : Merchant of Two Worlds

Chapter 76: 76. Entertaining Robb

As Jason Liu looked out at the crowd of thousands of people, their dark heads packed closely together, he felt a tingle run through his scalp.

It was the first time he had stood in front of so many people, and he could feel the weight of their thousands of eyes on him.

The pressure was intense!

After saying just a few words, he quickly stepped down from the makeshift platform made of stones and wood.

The recruitment for 100 soldiers was about to begin.

Robb was at Winterfell when he heard that Mr. Jason Liu was recruiting soldiers. Curious, he gathered a dozen guards and headed over to watch the event.

"You're making quite a scene! When I heard from my men, I thought Winterfell was under attack!" Robb said with a smile as he approached.

Jason Liu greeted Robb with a sheepish smile. "Sorry, Robb, for causing you any trouble! I didn't expect it to be so large; I just wanted to recruit 100 soldiers to help with the business, but I didn't anticipate such a turnout."

"Do you need help? The soldiers I brought can help keep order. If this chaos keeps up, who knows when we'll be finished!" Robb said, shrugging his shoulders and making a friendly offer.

"That would be a huge help! To thank you, Robb, I'd like to invite you to lunch with the warriors today at noon. How does that sound?" Jason Liu eagerly agreed, relieved to have Robb's support.

Robb grinned broadly. "I'm really looking forward to lunch! Jon mentioned that the meals you serve are made from your hometown, and I want to see if they really are as delicious as he says."

"No problem! I promise you'll be satisfied!" Jason Liu replied, happy to invite Robb to the meal.

With Robb's soldiers joining, there were now over 20 men to help maintain order.

Finally, the recruitment could proceed smoothly.

The method was simple: first, McCann would let ten of his men choose from the crowd. Since they were locals, they knew the village boys and could pick honest and responsible young men.

Then they would do a simple strength test.

Because there were so many people, Jason Liu worried that things might go wrong if they took too long. So, he decided to keep the tests short: anyone who was honest, strong, healthy, and without disabilities would be hired on the spot.

Of course, he still wanted to keep the principle that basically only one person would be recruited from each family.

This way, he could connect as many families as possible to his cause.

As for the three Barlow brothers being recruited, it was because Dillion was an acquaintance of Martha.

Now that he had established a foothold in Winter Market Town, he could implement his principle of recruiting from families.

Having 100 soldiers was neither too many nor too few.

The noise continued until noon, and eventually, enough people were chosen.

The families that were selected cheered, while those who weren't picked asked when the next recruitment would take place.

Jason Liu assured them that they would recruit again, and this time he would include families they hadn't recruited yet. This satisfied those families who were unhappy.

With a team of 110 soldiers, Jason Liu had connected himself to at least 100 families.

This bond of interest was solid, at least for now.

While these 100 civilian families might not provide much support, anything was better than nothing!

He had McCann, dicken, and the Barlow brothers lead the 100 new recruits to the warehouse, where they gathered clothes bought from the market in Westeros and from Winter Market Town.

After thoroughly washing them with soap, they burned all the old clothes on the spot. Then, the recruits put on clean clothes before returning for lunch.

With over 200 workers on the construction site, the addition of 100 new recruits meant that Old Rhodes Tavern couldn't keep up with demand.

However, Jason Liu had the money to solve this problem, and another tavern, the Rose Tavern, was happy to serve Mr. Jason Liu's Silver Deer.

The food issue was finally resolved.

Afterward, Jason Liu apologized to Robb, who had been waiting, and led him and his guards into Martha's store.

By this time, the store had been cleaned, and the goods were stored in a room set up as a temporary warehouse.

There were several long tables in the store. Jason Liu had asked Lena and Martha to stop their business in the morning and, along with Susan, Vanessa, and Bella, prepare lunch to host Robb and the guards.

The spread was impressive.

They had grilled fish, grilled lamb, grilled beef, grilled pork, grilled onions, grilled bread, fried meats, and rich braised pork that was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside.

There were apple, banana, and strawberry pies, as well as a fruit platter featuring apples, pears, bananas, oranges, and grapes.

The table was filled with tomato salad, cold cucumbers, scrambled eggs with green peppers, and Mapo tofu.

They served carrot and meat soup, along with seaweed egg drop soup.

Barrels of summer red wine from Qingting Island filled one end of the long table.

Jason Liu had spent a lot on the fruits, various meats, and vegetables for this lunch.

However, the result was fantastic, and Robb and the Winterfell soldiers were pleasantly surprised.

Robb felt fortunate, as when the northern nobles visited Winterfell for the harvest celebration, they had more dishes at the banquet, but those meals were usually boiled or overcooked, making them unappetizing.

The dishes before him were not only neatly arranged but also colorful and attractive, featuring many vegetables and fruits that Robb had never tasted before.

As a result, both the guests and hosts enjoyed the lavish lunch.

When Robb left, he felt a bit stuffed, his steps unsteady from eating too much and drinking too much.

Unable to resist Jason Liu's offer, Robb indulged in the drinks. His father usually let them have a little wine now and then, but with his father absent, Robb felt free to enjoy himself!

The Winterfell soldiers helped their young master back, wanting to drink as well. After all, this summer red wine from Qingting Island was a rare treat for these soldiers!

But they held back because it was work time, and showing up drunk would lead to scoldings or even punishment from Sir Roderick.

The elite soldiers of House Stark had their standards.

Jason Liu felt a bit lightheaded from drinking, but his mind was still clear.

He let Martha and Susan help Jon Snow, who was resting, in the house rented by Boris while he and Lena went back to their room to sleep.
