Chapter 72: 72. Back to Modern Drug Procurement
The next day, Jason Liu was teleported back to the modern warehouse, where he had arranged to receive the goods.
He was expecting a large shipment:
1 million bars of soap, with an additional 100,000 bars.1 million refills for gel pens, along with 100,000 gel pens themselves.1 million sheets of A4 paper and another 100,000 sheets of larger A1 paper.
It was an incredibly busy morning as the shipment finally arrived, and he made sure everything was accounted for. Once he received the goods, it was time to make another trip back to Westeros.
Luckily, teleporting the goods was easy for him. He only needed to physically touch the items for them to teleport with him, which made moving large quantities simple. However, he couldn't store all of these supplies in Martha's room. There was just too much, so he decided to move half of the shipment first.
Jason called McCann and his 10-person bodyguard team to help move the goods out of Martha's room. They carefully shifted everything, preparing to transport the rest later that night when it would be safer and quieter to move.
After finishing the first delivery, Jason locked up the warehouse and took a taxi into the city. His next task was to purchase medicines, something he knew Westeros desperately needed.
First, he went to a local pharmacy, where he bought a large stock of medicines. He focused on the essentials—mostly fever reducers and cold medicines, as these were the most commonly needed in Westeros.
Then, Jason made his way to a familiar neighborhood, where he had rented a house some time ago. He visited Dr. Victors clinic, where he planned to purchase more important supplies—penicillin, syringes, and sterile water for injections.
As soon as Dr. Victor saw Jason, his face lit up with a warm smile. "Long time no see, Xiao Liu! Have you been busy with medicine recently?"
Jason had come prepared with a gift, two packs of Chinese cigarettes, which he handed to Dr. Victor as a polite gesture. Dr. Victor, delighted by the offering, chuckled as he accepted them. "Ah, you're too kind! You must be doing well in business to be this generous."
Jason grinned and nodded. "Yes, business has been going well, thanks to the help I received from you last time, Uncle Victor.
Dr. Victor opened one of the cigarette packs, lighting one up. He offered a cigarette to Jason, but Jason waved it away. "No thanks, I don't smoke."
"Good, good! It's better not to smoke," Dr. Victor laughed, taking a deep puff of his cigarette. "But you didn't come just to thank me, right? What brings you here this time? You can tell me if you need something."
Jason smiled and got straight to the point. "Actually, Uncle Victor, I wanted to see if you could help me get more penicillin, syringes, and sterile water for injections. Last time you mentioned you knew someone who could help. I was hoping you could introduce me. Of course, I'll make sure you get a fair introduction fee."
Dr. Victor leaned back in his chair, looking a bit surprised. "You're still in this line of work?"
Jason nodded. "Yes, I've got some access to the market, but I still need better suppliers."
Dr. Victor narrowed his eyes and asked seriously, "Just penicillin, syringes, and injection water? Nothing else?"
"Exactly, just those," Jason confirmed.
Penicillin had already proven itself in Westeros as a miracle cure. It could treat about 80% of common illnesses with just one injection. Jason knew it was a game-changer. If a patient didn't recover after being treated with penicillin, there wasn't much more he could do—except perhaps try other medicines. If they still didn't survive, well, that was fate. Jason could only do so much.
His main focus on acquiring penicillin was to build a good reputation for himself. He planned to treat the poor at a low cost, while charging the nobles much higher prices. This would ensure he didn't lose money while gaining favor from both the common folk and the wealthy.
If someone was cured, Jason would gain their gratitude and a glowing reputation. If not, he could easily blame the gods, saying the patient's fate was out of his hands.
When it came to charging the rich, Jason understood that nobles expected to pay a premium for their treatments. They didn't want to be treated like commoners. In their minds, the more expensive the treatment, the better the care. Jason was prepared to sell the same medicine at different prices, just as luxury brands in the modern world did.
To him, it was simple: nobles would pay more to set themselves apart, while commoners would benefit from affordable care. Jason saw it as a win-win situation. Nobles wouldn't feel slighted, and commoners wouldn't be overcharged.
After Jason explained what he needed, Dr. Victor picked up his phone and made a call. Not long after, a man in his 30s entered the clinic. He was dressed in a business suit and carried a leather briefcase.
With a big smile, the man introduced himself. "You must be Liu! I'm Simon, Dr. Victor son. My father told me about you."
Jason was a little surprised but shook his hand firmly. "So, Uncle introduced me to his son."
Dr. then pointed toward one of the clinic's private rooms. "Let's talk in here."
Once inside, Simon enthusiastically explained that he had connections with a local pharmaceutical company and could supply Jason with the medicines he needed at a competitive price.
Jason laid out the specific quantities of penicillin, syringes, and sterile water for injections he required, and the two of them discussed how to proceed with the transaction.
