NOVEL NEXT Chapter 4: Chapter 4: The First Steps part 1
Hey guys, I'm back with another new chapter for this very.. ambitious retelling of the Flame and Crimson story, just with Weiss as the main love interest this time. As I said in the notes at the end of last chapter, the other main pairing will be Roy x Ruby. That pairing is a little different so I plan to keep them together. As for the other pairings, it's up in the air. Here's a list of some potential pairings this story could feature:

Anyways, just let me know what you guys think concerning these Character polls. I'm keeping Ren x Nora because I think they're a natural fit for each other. Other than that, any pairing goes concerning the Characters mentioned above: Yang, Khanna, Blake, Sarai, and Hailfire. Feel free to vote for which pairing makes the most sense for each character based on what you know of their personalities so far.
Disclaimer: I don't own Black Clover, The Tales of: Series, Dragonball Super, Rwby or their respective characteries. Ionly own the oc's who appear in this story.
Opening theme:
Opening: Arknights- Prelude to Dawn: Anime opening 1
Visuals: Replace the Arknights characters with the cast of this story and replace the reunion with Grimm and Atlas soldiers. The opening depicts the divide between the elves and the humans, while Huntsman and Huntresses fight off the Grimm. The chorus shows Odyn and the other elves struggle against the humans, the same with the faunus and Saiyan characters. The song ends as it zooms to a shot of Odyn and Weiss look off into the distance before the dark elf turns to look at Weiss. Weiss, noticing his gaze just smiles as the title card for the story comes up after the screen goes black.
Chapter 4: First Steps part 1
The screen comes back up as we see several students now waking up and getting themselves ready for the day to start. Among them, we see the elves and to the side of them: a certain duo. This duo of students included a girl with orange hair and turquoise eyes. She wore black stockings/leggings, white boots with pink trimming on them, a black skirt that fanned out slightly, along with a white shirt that also had pink trimmings. Black fingerless gloves, and the collapsed dust weapon on her back finished the look.
Next her was a boy with black hair that had a single pink strand in it. He wore a long dark green shirt that was almost like a robe of sorts, matching pants and shoes, with black fingerless gloves, a gray belt, and his collaped dust weapons holstered like guns along his belt. He appeared to be listening to the girl ramble on beside him rsther than say anything. It looked like he didn't mind though.
"What do you suppose that conversation is about?," Roy asked as he got ready beside his brother.
Odyn didn't have an answer for that and simply shrugged indifferently.
"Who knows? I'm sure we'll know soon enough who those two are.," He answered.
Roy nodded, satisfied with his brother's answer. He then turned to Odyn before speaking again, voicing a question that had been on his mind for some time now.
"Incidentally, brother... Did you have the chance to speak with her?,"Roy asked.
Knowing whom his brother was referring to, Odyn sighed and answered the question.
"I did, but.. it was only briefly. Time didn't allow us to properly catch up with each other i'm afraid.,"Odyn said with an exasperated sigh.
Roy put a hand on his brother's shoulder to comfort him.
"Don't sweat it. I'm the two of you will have a chance to properly catch up before this is over.,"Roy said encouraging his brother.
Odyn smirked and nodded at Roy.
"You're right. And thanks, Roy.,"Odyn said in response.
The two brothers than fist bumped each other, a sign of mutual respect between them. Odyn focused on preparing himself for the initiation test as he adjusted the straps on his armguards. Roy tightened the bandana on his forehead while tightening his gloves at the same time. Sarai was seen to be polishing her sword before she put it back into the sheath for it on her belt. Khanna was seen to be performing some stretches and Baron was checking his equipment. Ruby looked over towards Ren and Nora with a little bit of a curious look on her face.
"Wonder what those two are so worked up about?,"Ruby wondered aloud.
"I've been wondering the same thing myself.,"A voice said behind her.
Ruby nearly faceplanted when she saw who it was that spoke.
"Ah! R-Roy! It's you.. You nearly gave me a heart attack there.,"Ruby said upon realizing who the voice belonged to.
The voice was revealed to be Roy, the dark elf who had helped Ruby on her first day at this school and the brother of Odyn, the fiancee of the Schnee Dust Company heiress. Roy chuckled and rubbed the back of his head in response.
"Sorry about that, Ruby. I wasn't trying to scare you, honest.," Roy said in apology.
Ruby waved her hands in front of her as she felt heat coming to her face as she spoke.
"N-No, it's alright R-Roy! It's my fault for not noticing you sooner.," Ruby said a little embarrassed.
Yang was seen to be grinning in the background.
"Maybe I should leave you alone with your boyfriend, eh Rubes?,"Yang said teasing her sister.
Ruby puffed her cheeks in a out as she turned red in the face before she started to wave her arms angrily towards her sister.
"Yang! I told you, it's not like that with us!," Ruby said flustered.
Roy chuckled as he spoke up.
"Come on Yang, try not to tease your sister so much alright?," Roy said.
Yang lightly laughed before relenting.
"Alright, alright, I'll stop for now. I can tell Rubes is embarrassed.," Yang said relenting. "Anyways Rubes, you seem awfully chipper this morning."
Ruby nods excitedly as she strokes her dust weapon.
"Yup! No more that awkaward "getting- to- know- you stuff". Today I get to let my baby do the talking for me.," Ruby replied.
Roy raised a confused eyebrow.
"Her... "Baby"? Since when does anyone call their weapon, their "baby" or even "sweetheart" for that matter?," Roy thought to himself.
"Yeah, well just remember Rubes that we're not the only ones taking the initiation test today. If you're going to grow up, you'll have to meet new people and learn how to work together with them." Yang reminded her sister.
Ruby sighed in frustration and shoved her weapon into her locker.
"Ugh, you sound like Dad! Since when does meeting new people have anything to do with fighting?," Ruby replied frustrated. "And that's another thing: I don't need other people to help me grow up, I drink milk!"
Yang sighed in amusement before speaking again.
"That may be true, but what about when we form teams? What then?," Yang asked.
Ruby suddenly became a little nervous and lightly laughed.
"I uh.. I could always just join your team.," Ruby answered.
Yang brings her hair around her shoulder as she strokes it.
"Maybe you should try being on someone else's team?," Yang answered back nonchalantly.
Ruby then began to laugh nervously as she responded to her sister's statement.
"My dear sister, Yang, are you implying that you do'nt wish to be on a team with me?," Ruby asked laughing nervously.
Yang widened her eyes and waved her hands in front of her to convince Ruby that wasn't what she meant.
"What? No! That's not what I meant at all! I just thought... that maybe.. it would help to break out of your shell, that's all.," Yang replied.
Ruby was a little upset at this suggestion. A fact that she let Yang know very clearly.
"What the-?! I don't need to 'break out of my shell', that's absolutely-!," Ruby said before being cut off by Jaune walkig right in between them.
"Ridiculous! There's no way I put my equipment in locker 636, I'd remember having to count that high!," Jaune said walking down the hall after passing between the sisters.
Jaune passed the elves getting ready, as well as Weiss Schnee and Pyrrha Nikos who were briefly chatting. The redhead had been wondering about something as she had been watching Weiss when she wasn't looking over these first two days of being at Beacon. Odyn was seen nearby chatting with Sarai, Khanna, and Baron as they got ready for the day.
"So um... Pyrrha was it? Have you given any serious thought about whose team you would like to be placed on? I'm certain everyone must be eager to join up with such a strong and well known individual such as yourself!," Weiss said starting a conversation as the two readied themselves near their lockers.
Pyrrha thought for a moment before answering.
"I'm not sure honestly. I was planning on just letting the chips fall where they may.," She replied. "But before that, Ihope this doesn't seem rude but can.. I ask you something?"
Weiss looked at her in the eyes and nodded, unsure of what she'd ask.
"Sure. What is it you want to ask me?," Weiss asked curious.
"That blue haired boy over there... (points to Odyn, which Weiss notices) I have to ask: Do.. they two of you know each other somehow? I've seen you two talking quite a few times over these first two days. I was curious. I've never seen him before.,"Pyrrha asked. "Who.. is he?"
Weiss sighed, she knew this question would be asked sooner or later. There was really no sense in hiding the fact she and Odyn knew each other, people would find that out eventually anyways.
"To answer your question, Pyrrha: Yes he and I do know each other. In fact, Odyn and myself have known each other ever since we were young children.," Weiss answered with a sigh.
Pyrrha was alittle surprised at this. She never imagine Weiss having a childhood friend.
"In other words... you are childhood friends, then?," Pyrrha asked.
Weiss nodded.
"Yes we are.," Weiss replied.
"I see. Is... there some reason you're keeping the friendship between you two a secret then?," Pyrrha asked curious.
Weiss wasn't expecting that question, she'd answer the best way she knew how to without... revealing too much.
"I... It's complicated. I'll just say this much... it would be a bit of a mess if too many people found out we knew each other and of the extent of our friendship.," Weiss answered.
Pyrrha said nothing at first, she simply nodded.
"I understand. I won't pry any further.,"Pyrrha said with a smile.
Weiss spoke up again to continue their earlier conversation.
"Anyways, I was thinking maybe the two of us could be on a team together.,"Weiss said.
"That sounds grand!,"Pyrrha replied happily.
"Great!", Weiss replied excited.
The background then vanishes into a thundercloud as Weiss adopts a rather sinister smile in her head.
"This is perfect! The smartest girl in class paired with the strongest girl in class! We'll be unstoppable! I can see it now! We'll be popular! We'll be celebrities! We'll get perfect grades! Nothing can come between us now!"Weiss thought in her mind.
Odyn saw Jaune approaching and smacked his forehead. This dude had no idea what he was in for.
"*smacks his forehead in annoyance* I hope you know what you're getting yourself into, Jaune...,"Odyn thought to himself.
Jaune cuts in between Weiss and Pyrrha, interrupting Weiss's evil train of thoughts.
"You know what else is great? Me. Jaune Arc. Nice to meet you.,"Jaune said interrupting them.
Weiss understandably became irritated at this and voiced her irritation towards Jaune, not that he even picked up on it. >_<
"You again?", She asked irritated.
Pyrrha hurriedly makes herself known.
"Nice to meet you, Jaune!," Pyrrha said hurriedly letting herself be seen by the blonde.
Jaune pushes Pyrrha aside as he talks to Weiss, posing slightly. This made Odyn cringe internally, and he knew for fact Weiss was having none of this from Jaune. She had to be boiling inside.
"Yeah, Yeah. So Weiss, I couldn't help but overhear of your fondness for me the other day..,"Jaune said posing.
"Oh, you've got to be kidding me...,"Weiss said annoyed with her eyebrow twitching in anger.
"Not to worry, you don't need to be so embarrassed! So, I've been hearing rumors about teams! I was kinda thinking you and me would make a good one. What do you say?,"Jaune said.
"I think... you're out of your mind mister!,"Weiss thought annoyed.
Pyrrha then spoke, gaining Jaune's attention.
"Actually, Jaune, I think the teams are composed of four students each so-,"Pyrrha said before Jaune interrupted her.
"You don't say. Well hot stuff, if you play your cards right you could end up with the winning team.,"Jaune said as he advanced towards his new target.
Weiss is then separating the two as she speaks up again.
"Listen, Jaune... was it? Do you have any idea of whom you're talking to?,"Weiss asked still a little irritated.
Jaune was still clueless and just answered honestly, still attempting to flirt with Weiss.
"Not in the slightest, snow angel.,"He answered.
His answer annoyed Weiss internally as she spoke again.
"This is Pyrrha.," Weiss said.
"Hello, again!," Pyrrha said waving with a smile.
"Pyrrha graduated at the top of her class at Sanctum!,"Weiss explained,
"Where?", Jaune asked visibly confused.
"She's won the Mistral Region Tournaments for four years in a row, a new record!,"Weiss said scoffing.
"Um.. the what now?,"Jaune asked still confused.
Weiss is seen to rapidly waving her arms in anger as her frustration reaches a boiling point.
"She's on the front of every Pumpkin Pete's Marshmallow Flakes box!"Weiss said annoyed.
Jaune widened his eyes upon realizing who this girl before him was.
"Wait... That's YOU?! But, they only do that far star athletes and cartoon characters!,"Jaune said gasping suddenly.
The design of the aforementioned ceral box with Pyrrha's smiling face on it is seen in the background as the trio are taking.
"Yeah, it was pretty cool. Sadly, the ceral itself isn't very good for you.,"Pyrrha answered.
The ceral box then crumbles into the background as Weiss then reappears again.
"After hearing all of this, Jaune, do you really think you're in a postion to talk to her now?,"Weiss asked.
Jaune hung his head, his shoulders sagging along with him in dejection.
"I guess not... Sorry to bother you.,"Jaune said as he was about to turn and walk away.
Pyrrha then spoke up again. She didn't like seeing Jaune as sad as he looked just then. For some reason that she couldn't explain, it just felt like Jaune's face shouldn't be this sad or dejected.
"A-Actually Jaune... I think you'd make a great leader!,"Pyrrha said before she even realized what came out of her mouth.
This immediately caused the blonde knight to brighten back up, much to Weiss's ire.
"D'oh stop it!,"He said playfully waving it off with a smile.
Weiss became annoyed again as she added to the conversation.
"Seriously, stop it! This kind of foolish behaviour shouldn't be encouraged!,"Weiss said irritated.
Unfortunately her rebuke didn't have the intended effect. It actually just pushed Jaune to act even more of a fool in her eyes.
"Sounds like Pyrrha over here is all for Team Jaune, spots are filling up quick! Now, I know I'm not really supposed to do this, but maybe I could pull some strings, call for a few favors, and find a place for you. What do you say?,"Jaune replied trying to flirt with Weiss again.
Weiss had enough of the blonde knight's "nonsense" and finally snapped, albeit much calmer than Odyn, who looked on at the scen expected from her.
"All right, that's far too close there mister! Pyrrha, a little help please?!," Weiss said putting her hands in front of her in an effort to keep her distance from Jaune.
Weiss looked to Pyrrha and nodded before chucking her dust spear, Milo, towards the would be leader. Jaune looked back just in time for the spear to strike him and send him flying into a far wall.
"I'm sorry about that!," Pyrrha said.
Pyrrha's I'm sorry tracker: 1
An announcement then plays on the intercom in the hallway.
"Would all Beacon first year students please report to Beacon Cliffs immediately for initiation? I repeat: Would all Beacon first year students please report to Beacon Cliffside for initiation immediately?,"The voice of Glynda said over the intercom.
Odyn sighs in frustration as Weiss passes the blonde knight as he hangs from the wall near a locker on her way out. Pyrrha follows her, grabs her spear which drops Jaune to the ground. She offers a small ,but bright smile towards Jaune before following Weiss towards exit.
"It was nice meeting you, Jaune!,"She said as she left the scene.
At least someone's nice to the poor guy...
Odyn walks over to Jaune and offers him a hand, to which the blonde accepts before being pulled to his feet.
"Sorry about Weiss, Jaune. She can be a bit... uh... non tolerant concerning certain things.,"Odyn said.
Yang and Ruby also approach with the other dark elves.
"Having a little trouble there, "lady killer"?,"Yang asked lightly teasing the boy.
Jaune sighed and looked up at them before standing to his feet.
"I don't understand! My dad said all women look for is confidence... where did I go wrong?,"Jaune replied confused.
"Well.. first off Weiss isn't most women...,"Khanna said.
"And secondly, "Snow Angel" probably wasn't the best start either.," Sarai added then looked to Yang. "Right, Yang?"
Yang looked toward the lavender haired dark elf girl.
"Got that right. I'm guessing she doesn't really like being called that by just anybody.,"Yang surmised.
Khanna chuckled.
"You.. could say that again.,"Khanna said.
Ruby and Roy then helped up Jaune as the group leads him out of the locker room, supporting the blonde knight's damaged self esteem.
"Come on, Jaune.,"Ruby said helping to usher him out of the locker room and towards their destination.
Time skip: Beacon Cliffs minutes before the Initiation for Beacon Academy is set to begin....
The scene opens to Beacon Cliffs, overlooking a dense forest, where students- some old, some new, some unfamiliar, and some unseen are standing upon silver tiles that appear to be shields in front of Ozpin. The grey haired man is seen to be holding a mug with his favorite beverage (coffee or hot chocolate most likely) in it as Professor Glynda is seen with her tablet, standing alongside him.
"For years, you all have trained to be warriors. Now today, your abilities will be tested and evaluated inside of the Emerald Forest.," Ozpin said.
The students looked forward as they listened to what their professors had to say. For some, especially the dark elven students, this was no different than the training within the elven army that they'd gone through for years as children all the way up until now. And for others, it was like they were back in one of the Huntsman training academy's again.
"Now, I'm sure all of you have heard the rumors about teams being assigned to each of you. Allow us to put an end to those confusing rumors. You all will be given teammates... today in fact.,"Glynda explained.
This caused several of the students to look at each other and start to murmur and whisper amongst each other. Ruby was especially nervous about this as she had been tense almost all morning up till this point because of those rumors. She breathed a momentary sigh of relief, now that the info on teams was out in the open. Her relief didn't last very long, for the next set of words delivered by the professors left her panicking internally once more.
"What? Oh.. phew....,"Ruby said momentarily relieved.
"These teammates of yours will be with you for the remainder of your time here at Beacon, so it is best that you're paired up with someone that you can work well with.,"Ozpin said.
Ruby silently groaned at this.
"That being the case.., the first person you make eye contact with after landing will be your partner for the next 4 years here.,"Ozpin further explained.
Ruby's eyes widen and her shocked expression mirrors her world cracking like glass and shattering apart.
"Whaaaattttt?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!,"Ruby said shocked.
Nora is seen speaking to Ren on the matter.
"See? I told you!,"Nora says to ren.
Meanwhile, Odyn and the other dark elves each have varying expressions of interest lining their faces.
"The first people you see will be your teammates, huh?," Khanna said aloud.
"This should be intersting then.," Roy added.
"It certainly will keep us on our toes when thinking of whom we'll partner up with.,"Odyn said.
"We'll have to think on our feet then?,"Sarai asked.
"Seems like it.,"Baron added.
"Keeping everyone honest and making them adjust their strategy and thinking on the fly, I like it! Should be very interesting seeing where everyone ends up at the very least.,"Hailfire said.
Glynda raised her hand to quiet down everyone's nervous chatter about the announcement of teams. Ozpin then spoke up again.
"After you've partnered up, make your way towards the northern end of the forest. You are going to meet some opposition on the way, destroy anything that gets in your way. If you don't, you may end up getting hurt or worse. Don't hesitate or you will die.,"Ozpin said.
Jaune is seen gulping nervously.
Ozpin continued.
"You all will be closely monitored and graded throughout the duration of this initiation, but our instructors will not intervene should you get into some unforeseen trouble. At the end of the path, you'll find an old and abandoned temple structure containing several relics. Your goal: each pair is to grab a relic and return to the cliffs on the opposite end of the forest safely. We'll regard the item, as well as your standing in this initiation test and grade you appropriately. Now, are there any questions or concerns?,"Ozpin explained.
Jaune slowly raised his hand.
"Yeah. u-um Professor Ozpin, sir... I- I have a question.,"Jaune said.
"Good! Now, take your positions!,"Ozpin said seemingly ignoring the blonde knights question.
The silver shield like tiles raise up as everyone is seen shifting into a pose or stance in preparation for what came next.
One by one, students are launched into the air. First as a familiar group of four containing a certain orange haired bully and his friends, next up are the dark elven students. Odyn nods to Weiss, a gesture she returns with a small smile before he's launched towards the forest. Roy gives Ruby a thumbs up and fist bumps her before he joins his fellow dark elven students. Weiss is the next to be launched, followed by the other tiles all activating down the line. Jaune is still seen to be raising his hand in question.
"Uh.. sir?," Jaune asked.
Ozpin turns towards him.
"Hm? What is it, lad?,"Ozpin asked.
"So... this uh... landing strategy thing. U-Um wha.. what is it exactly? Will you be dropping us off or something?," Jaune asked.
Ozpin turned back towards the forest as he answered Jaune.
"No. You will be falling.," Ozpin answered.
"Oh... I see.. So um.. will you hand out parachutes for us or something?," The blonde knight asked.
More students are being flung into the aor by the silver tiles in the background.
"No. You will be using your own "landing strategy"." Ozpin replied.
"O-oh... I see. ," Jaune replied missing an excited Nora and Ren being launched into the air behind him.
Next is Yang's turn, to which she winks at her sister, puts on a pair of aviators for when she is ultimately launched into the air.
"Woohooo!!!," Yang screamed in delight as she is launched into the air.
Ruby looks up to the sky as she prepares herself.
"I hope I get partnered up with Yang, or.. Roy, he's really nice.," She thought before being launched into the air a second after Yang was.
Back to Jaune, he doesn't notice the silver tile rising up below him as he is still asking Ozpin questions about the initiation test and what it entailed. However, he's not ready for when the tile suddenly activates right beneath his feet.
"So, what exactly is this landing strategyyyyy!!!!!!," Jaune asks before he is suddenly flung into the air.
Due, to him not being prepared, he is spinning int the air as he joins the cloud of students flung into the air above the forest.
Sybyrh, a new teacher at Beacon, and also another dark elf turned to Ozpin with a bit of a dry look.
"You could've at least warned the boy his tile was activating... I don't understand you humans sometimes...,"Sybyrh said with a dry look on her face.
"True, he could've. I think our Headmaster may be having.. a little "too much fun" enjoying this.,"Tarro said to Sybyrh.
"You two may be new professors here, but I will not have you questioning our Headmaster. Though... I do tend to agree with you. Our Headmaster's methods of doing Initiation Tests could... use a much gentler approach.,"Glynda said reluctantly agreeing.
Ozpin for his part, simply sipped his favorite blend of coffee as he watched the cloud of students descend to the forest below as the screen goes black.

Ending theme:
Ending theme: Reincarnated as a Sword ending theme 1
Visuals: Replace Fran with Weiss in her home. Weiss then looks skyward and runs across a field before stopping and seeing Odyn as a child. The children stare at each other before it transitions to them as adults(young adults/teenagers) running towards each other from different perspectives. The song ends as the two are seen to be walking towards each other with Odyn smiling and reaching out his hand towards Weiss. Weiss turns away and blushes for a second before accepting the hand. The two hold hands as they walk towards the distance in a freeze frame.
Hey guys! Hopefully, you guys enjoyed the chapter although it was on the shorter side of things. Odyn x Weiss will be a main focus of the story, but i'll do my best to incorporate other pairings into the story as well. When thinking about who aside from RWBY and JNPR to put onto a team, I came up with a few variants. Please vote for which characters you'd like to see on a team:
