Chapter 22: Chapter 023: The Holy Grail Question (1)
Perhaps it was because the Einzbern family estate was vast,
or maybe it was simply because they were the last ones approached by Iskandar.
Either way—
The Einzbern Castle was chosen as the venue for this so-called 'banquet.'
Reiji made no attempt to hide his arrival.
As per Iskandar's instructions, he openly marched into the castle grounds.
His magic territory expanded unrestrained, his Servants following closely behind.
The rear garden—
That was where Iskandar and Artoria stood face to face.
Reiji took his position at one corner of the four-sided formation.
"Hmph. This Holy Grail War—Has It Really Deteriorated This Much?"
Gilgamesh was the last to arrive.
His arms crossed, his golden eyes filled with disdain.
Of course, no one acknowledged his complaint.
Iskandar, however, merely glanced at him—
Then grinned boldly.
"Since Everyone's Here—Let Us Begin!"
From behind him, Iskandar dragged forward a massive wooden barrel.
With a large ladle, he scooped up a generous amount—
Then downed it in one gulp.
"A banquet without alcohol?"
"Unthinkable!"
Reiji and Artoria remained silent.
Instead—
It was Gilgamesh who scoffed.
"Hmph. A banquet meant to entertain this king—"
"And you bring out such pathetic swill?"
With a dismissive wave,
four golden goblets materialized from the Gate of Babylon.
Along with them—
A single jug of fine wine, worthy of his collection.
"A Toast Before the Discussion"
No one refused the offered drinks.
No one suspected poison.
After all—
To sit at this table required a certain level of dignity.
With Gilgamesh's fine wine praised appropriately,
Iskandar raised his voice.
"The Holy Grail War—"
"Rather than a mere battle of heroes killing each other—"
"Should it not be a competition of ideals?"
"A question, then—"
"Who is most worthy of obtaining the Holy Grail?"
"What Would You Do With the Grail?"
For a moment, silence hung over the gathering.
But Iskandar was unfazed.
He simply laughed heartily—
And spoke first.
"My Wish?"
"To be reborn in a real, physical body."
"Then—"
"To experience the thrill of conquest once more!"
Gilgamesh chuckled mockingly.
"How foolishly ambitious…"
"Mongrel! The Holy Grail is already mine."
"Why would a king need to wish for something he already possesses?"
Reiji smirked subtly.
"And You, Reiji?"
The sequence of conversation was different from before.
After Iskandar and Gilgamesh had spoken their piece—
All eyes turned toward Reiji.
"Reiji, my friend—"
"You are not a Servant, but as a Master—surely you have a wish as well?"
Their curiosity was undeniable.
Reiji was, without question—
The most aggressive force in this Holy Grail War.
All eliminated Servants and Masters thus far—
Had fallen at his hands.
Naturally, they wondered:
What kind of terrifying wish did he have?
"A Wish? A Dream?"
Reiji laughed.
A deep, amused chuckle—
That made everyone pause.
"Sorry—"
"But I don't have anything like that."
