Chapter 118: Chapter 118: Two Cute Creatures
"Big Brother, I want ice cream."
Blake barely had time to react before Kanna's soft but insistent voice cut through the air.
Asia, who had just been about to ask for directions, hesitated. She glanced at Kanna, whose large cyan eyes locked onto her with an unreadable expression. A little flustered, Asia instinctively took a step back.
She had finally found someone who could speak English and was kind enough to help her, yet she didn't want to impose.
"Thank you for your help. I… I think I can find my way now. You two should go on with your plans."
She smiled warmly, waving her hands in reassurance, though there was a trace of hesitation in her voice.
Blake, however, wasn't about to let her leave just yet.
"You've traveled a long way to this country. You must be tired and hungry. How about I treat you to something? Come eat with us."
Noticing the shift in Kanna's mood, Blake gently patted her head, hoping to soothe whatever strange emotion she was feeling.
Asia's lips parted as if to refuse, but before she could finish—
Gurgle.
Her stomach betrayed her.
A deep red blush spread across her cheeks as she clutched her abdomen, looking down in embarrassment.
Blake chuckled. "See? You're definitely hungry. Let's grab a bite first."
Taking Kanna's small hand, he turned and walked toward the main street.
Asia bit her lip, her blush deepening, but after a moment of hesitation, she pulled her suitcase along and followed.
Blake glanced at her from the corner of his eye. She really was too trusting—most people would be more cautious before accepting a meal from someone they just met. Then again, that was just the kind of person Asia was.
As he walked, a small voice echoed in his mind.
"Big Brother, why did you invite her?"
Kanna's quiet but displeased tone sent a ripple through their contract link.
Blake blinked. He hadn't expected her to react like this.
"Kanna, she's just a traveler looking for help. There's no reason to be upset."
Although he didn't know the full extent of Kanna's past, it was clear she harbored strong feelings toward anything related to the church. That likely explained why she wasn't particularly fond of Asia.
After a brief pause, Kanna stole a glance at the blonde nun, who was still trailing behind them with an innocent, slightly lost look on her face.
Finally, Kanna gave a small nod.
---
Blake leaned back in his chair, watching Asia eye the food on the table with a mixture of longing and hesitation.
"Asia, eat as much as you want. Don't hold back."
Despite her clear hunger, she still hesitated, her hands clenching in her lap as if she felt guilty for accepting the offer.
After a moment, she clasped her hands together.
"Lord, thank you for your blessings… and thank you as well, Mr. Blake."
Only then did she finally pick up a fry and take a delicate bite. Her eyes lit up instantly, a pure, childlike joy spreading across her face.
Blake sighed inwardly. Asia really was something else. A girl like her, who had faced so many hardships, could still find happiness in something as simple as a fast-food meal.
With a small smile, he turned to Kanna and slid a large sundae across the table.
"Here's your ice cream, Kanna."
Kanna's expression immediately softened. "Thank you, Big Brother."
With that, she dug in enthusiastically, her earlier moodiness seemingly forgotten.
The three of them ate together, chatting lightly.
For a brief moment, it felt like an ordinary night out.
But, of course, things never stayed peaceful for long.
---
By the time they finished eating, the sun had set.
Outside the restaurant, Asia shuffled nervously, gripping the handle of her suitcase.
"Um… Mr. Blake, thank you for everything. I should get going now. Could you help me with directions to the old church?"
Her voice was barely above a whisper, as if she were embarrassed to ask for another favor.
Before Blake could respond, a familiar chime echoed in his mind.
Ding!
[Mission Issued: Help Asia.]
[Reward: +50 Luck Points.]
Blake's sapphire-blue eyes flickered with thought.
So, it's happening already?
He knew something wasn't right. If he let her go now, she might run into trouble.
Turning to Asia, he spoke gently.
"Asia, it's already late, and the old church is quite far from here. It's not safe to go alone. How about staying at my place for the night? I'll take you there tomorrow."
Asia blinked, startled.
She hesitated, clearly torn between accepting his kindness and feeling like she was being a burden.
"I… I don't want to trouble you any more than I already have…"
Blake could tell she wasn't rejecting the offer outright—she was just too polite to impose.
He sighed, shaking his head. "It's no trouble at all. Honestly, I'd feel better knowing you're safe. You're in a foreign town with nowhere to go—it's the least I can do."
Asia's hands fidgeted against the handle of her suitcase. "But…"
"Is this urgent?" Blake asked, switching tactics. "If it's something pressing, I can take you there now and make sure you get there safely."
Asia bit her lip, clearly conflicted.
Then, after a long pause, she sighed in defeat. "Alright… if you really don't mind, I'll stay the night."
A satisfied smile crossed Blake's lips. "Good. Then let's head home."
Without waiting for her to second-guess herself, he took her hand in one of his, and with the other, he held Kanna's.
The three of them walked down the dimly lit streets, bathed in the glow of streetlamps.
It was… oddly pleasant.
A golden-haired beauty on one side. A silver-haired dragon girl on the other.
Honestly, if it weren't for the unwelcome presence lurking in the shadows, the night would have been perfect.
Blake's smile thinned as his sharp gaze flicked toward the rooftops.
He could feel them.
They were being watched.
---
Meanwhile, in the Shadows…
Perched atop a nearby building, a dark-winged figure narrowed her violet eyes as she watched Blake lead Asia away.
Behind her, one of her subordinates spoke.
"Lady Raynare, what should we do now? Our target has been intercepted by that boy."
The woman's eyes gleamed with intrigue.
"It doesn't matter. He can't protect her forever. We'll just wait for the right moment."
With that, the shadows stirred once more.
The night was just beginning.
