Chapter 217 Colonel Ethan Windfire

Ethan surrounded himself in a cloak of flames by manipulating both the fire element and the air element at the same time in a perfect example of synergy. The air element stoked the fire and by heating up the surroundings a powerful wind was created, that was the reason why they called him Windfire and also how he managed to climb up the army ladder while he was still an ascended.

But now he was a heavenly rank hunter, and a very strong at that, his power was on a level Uriel had never seen before.

Any sane person would have kept away from the flames, just being at a distance was painful, but Uriel fearlessly lunged forward and the reason for that was Medusa.

The poor huntress barely let out a yelp before being engulfed in the flames that muffled every sound. Incandescent air filled her lungs, the searing heat calcined her hair and skin and her clothes caught fire in an instant.

Any regular person would have died, but Uriel hoped with whatever was left of his heart that she was still alive as he entered the reign of flames Ethan had created. He remained with his eyes closed the whole time since his sight would have been nullified by the flames and maybe his eyes would have popped like balloons with the intense heat.

The intense pain shifted into stiffness and he couldn't breathe because, as soon as he did, that would be his last breath but he endured through and used his mystical sense to grab Medusa from the ground and flee in a single jump.

When the flames subsided, the pitiful state of Medusa was revealed. Her skin was black with bright red cracks that showed her flesh, but her coarse breathing gave Uriel hope that she would make it. Uriel himself was badly burned too, though it helped that leather natural leather was fireproof and since he was only exposed to the fire for a short time he had only sustained second degree burns.

"Do you like them crispy?" Ethan laughed mockingly. "I don't know why am I even speaking to a scum like you, now die!"

The heavenly rank colonel was getting ready to land the finishing blow. Just by waving his hand he could end the claim of the two opposing factions and once he married Tina he would be the sole owner of the orichalcum vein in the Alamo.

Uriel deposited Medusa softly on the ground like she was an antique made of the most fragile porcelain and then stood up. He didn't need to open his mouth to know his vocal chords had been burnt and he couldn't speak anymore but all he needed to convey his feelings were his eyes.

He directed a murderous glare towards the colonel, it was so intense he couldn't help but flinch. Those weren't the eyes of a defeated person, no, they barely resembled the eyes of a human being. It was a monster staring right at him, a starving beast who could only sate its hunger by inflicting pain.

Ethan saw what happened to frostbite and knew exactly what was coming to him if he let Uriel get close and he attempted to stop him by sending a gust of flaming wind at him.

Uriel knew he couldn't dodge it because, if he did, the flames would probably reach Medusa and he kept on walking in spite of the searing pain. He kept walking even when his skin started stretching, when his muscles stiffened and contracted on their own, he kept walking until his body couldn't respond anymore.

"This fucking slumrats, their resistance to pain makes them so difficult to deal with." He sighed, but when the dust and smoke started settling Ethan could have sworn he saw two cyan eyes staring right at him, getting closer with an unsettling sound similar to the one that occurs when someone eats potato chips.

*crack* *crack* ¨*crack*

The sound came closer and so did the burnt figure of a man or something that resembled one. He was completely covered in black but that only made the white of his teeth stand out even more as he smiled.

"How are you doing this!? Stop! Stop right there!" Ethan frantically yelled as he took a few steps back. He tried to activate his trait again but he was so scared he couldn't channel flux properly and he could only summon a few flames no bigger than those of a regular lighter.

Uriel walked painstakingly slow because even with Water warlock's blessing, his body was taking a while to recover since Ethan's trait dissipated all the moisture in their surroundings. He stumbled from side to side but he didn't relent and each step was faster than the last until he was finally able to run.

With the blessing and Dash activated at the same time, Ethan had no chance to dodge the heavy fist that carried all of Uriel's resentment and it landed directly on his right cheek. Not content with knocking out some of Ethan's teeth, Uriel launched another punch to his stomach but this time it was nearly powerless as he had depleted all of his flux energy.

Once more, Uriel had spent his flux energy carelessly and deeply regretted not summoning thunderbolt Iron and killing his enemy when he had the chance.

"Ha ha ha! You had me scared for a minute there." Ethan grabbed Uriel's arm with one hand and his neck with the other, then he summoned flames like a blowtorch just to torture him.

By regenerating his body he had a chance to fight, but it also had the unwanted effect of healing his nerves which caused him to feel an intense pain most people couldn't endure but instead of screaming in pain, Uriel gritted his teeth and summoned his sword.

The shadows beneath both hunters twirled around thanks to the intense light caused by the flames, Uriel tried his best to hold the grip of the sword for as long as he could but in the end he faltered and he dropped it.

"Gotcha!" Nika appeared from Uriel's shadow, grabbed the sword before it touched the ground and stabbed Ethan on the chest.
