Chapter 216 Rainbow bridge is going down

Ethan's plan went through exactly like he expected from the very beginning. If he had learned something during all of his years in the army was that scheming was way more important than merit or even power.

From the moment it was decided that three factions would be participating on the exploration he started plotting against Nika. She was a heavenly rank like him, but somehow she managed to get her hands on one of the relics without the backing of a big corporation which made her too dangerous.

As if that was nothing, she recruited that annoying archaeology student that Tina had fallen for he knew that him being alive would make marrying her more difficult. Thanks to his brother Mark, he knew all there was to know about Uriel which was really useful on this particular occasion.

Asking Shaker to infiltrate on their group and waiting for a chance to strike was definitely the best he could do.

"Now, where were we?" Ethan grabbed Medusa's chin and pulled her closer.

"You won't get away with this!"

"I already did." Ethan said with a wide unsightly grin.

"It's crumbling down, we need to rush to the other side!" Sam shouted as the vibrations became stronger.

"You guys go ahead, I need to do something." Uriel said as he placed his hand on the bridge and knelt down in the same position a professional athlete would before a race and activated Dash at the same time as he darted forward leaving behind only a few blue sparks behind.

Because of his enhanced sight, Sam didn't miss a second of his race and watched in disbelief how Uriel covered an incredible distance in the blink of an eye. As the bridge started crumbling, Uriel's speed went up a notch and he made it in the last second.

"He made it!" Sam cheered.

"Uhm, nice." Luna said and then she lost interest.

"Y-you guys are all insane." Janett's eye couldn't stop twitching.

"Oh! Crap! We need to find a way back there, they're going to kill him." Sam gasped every now and then as he watched how Uriel was faring in his attempt to rescue Medusa.

Uriel ran the fastest he ever had, but he was nowhere near as fast as he needed to be in order to reach the other side of the bridge before it collapsed. Luckily, he still had his newly awarded stat points and he proceeded to allocate five of them into speed mid run.

He really wanted to increase his flux stat, but it was a fortunate thing he saved them for that moment.

Shaker still had his hands on top of the colorful bridge when Uriel landed on face and ran past him. Now that he was safe in the main island he cancelled Dash in order to save some flux for the actual fight.

"Kill him." Ethan commanded his soldiers. They were few, but considering the fact that they managed to catch up to the colonel after being abandoned they had to be among the strongest of their unit.

Frostbite stepped forward, followed by the remaining soldiers and they opened fire against Uriel but he managed to activate Dash before the soldiers took aim. He was nowhere near as fast as to doge bullets, but the sudden change on his speed was enough to make the soldiers miss their shots.

"Interesting, Mark mentioned his trait was summoning weapons but it's actually enhanced speed." Ethan said in a pensive manner.

"Don't worry colonel, I'll take care of him." Lieutenant Frostbite said as he ran forward to cut Uriel's path. He took off his gloves and the air immediately became chilly, frost spread around the lieutenant like an infectious disease and Uriel had to stop mid race to keep his distance.

"There's something odd about this guy's trait," He muttered. While it looked like any regular trait, it didn't look like he activated his trait, it was more like by just removing his gloves it starte taking effect.

"So you noticed," Frostbite clicked his tongue. "It doesn't matter, you won't be able to get any closer."

Uriel didn't know what he was talking about and he was simply being cautious though his words confirmed his theory that his trait was always active. While he could potentially recover from any injury, he didn't know what would happen if he was frozen, though he wasn't too keen on finding out.

Frostbite then started waving his hands, causing the air to become even colder and the area of effect of his trait expanded at a fast rate which forced Uriel to retreat. Uriel had no means to know that Frostbite had no real control of his trait which only allowed him to absorb heat with his hands and the more time passed, the stronger and wider the effect of the trait would become.

Uriel stood at a safe distance and watched the theatrical display of hand movements with annoyance. A smug was formed on the lieutenant's face when he noticed Uriel's displeased expression, but it died along with him as soon as Uriel summoned his revolver and put a bullet through his skull.

"Who's next?" He gazed at the dumbfounded soldiers with an expression even colder than the recently deceased lieutenant which made them flinch.

After being left behind by the colonel and going through so much trouble to catch up, they weren't that inclined on following his commands. Also, the young man opposing them had no qualms on killing someone, not just that, he didn't even react.

"That was close," He muttered, after passing the soldiers."If they knew how shitty my aim is I would have been in trouble."

As soon as he reached Ethan's location he saw him still gripping Medusa. She had been attempting to use her petrifying glare on the colonel the whole time, but Mark had warned him about her and he refrained from looking her in the eye rendering her trait completely useless.

"Uriel, run away, save yourself." She said as tears ran down her face.

"Do you really think you have a chance against me? You!? A mere ascended!" Ethan laughed maniacally as he activated his trait.

"It's do or die." Uriel gritted his teeth.
