Chapter 18: Unintentional Spark
'Why am I here!?' Xie Xie internally screamed, cold sweat dripping down his body. He couldn't even taste the food he was eating no matter how delicious it was! Uncle Li's delicious cooking tasted like nothing to him!
"Oh! This is good!" The Elemental Saint Gu Yuena spoke excitedly, a hand over her mouth as she praised the food. Befitting her appearance of a goddess she had impeccable manners and her every action seemed elegant.
Nodding his head quietly was the being he feared most, the Crimson Demon, the Demon of Destruction, Tang Wulin. He was surrounded by the two biggest monsters in the world and he couldn't even escape! He'll he didn't even know how he was moving!
'Uncle Li why would you do this to me!?' Xie Xie shouted internally, imaginary tears leaking from his eyes. He would cry in real life as well but he was afraid it would disturb the two monsters and they would attack him next!
After the Crimson Demon defeated Guang Long somehow Uncle Li accepted their request for free food and in a stroke of fate's cruelty, his uncle assumed they were friends and forced Xie Xie to sit with them.
Xie Xie was happy that Uncle Li was happy at the idea of him having friends, he really was. But this was horrible! He was forced to sit with two beings that could kill him without him being able to react and one of them was so bad he was titled a demon from his very first sighting!
"Xie Xie." The emotionless voice of the Crimson Demon broke him out of his fear induced rambling. Sitting at attention immediately, an extremely girly squeal left his voice, the Elemental Saint giggling at his reaction for whatever reason.
"Yes!" Xie Xie responded seriously, his demeanor similar to the most devoted of soldiers held when they responded to their superiors. If it was anyone else in the school besides the Cold God, the prideful Xie Xie would never respond that way but exceptions must be made.
He will squash his pride in a heartbeat if it means he doesn't have to be on the receiving end of the Demon of Destruction's fist. He saw what it did to Guang Long and it wasn't pretty. Even calling it cruel wouldn't be doing it justice.
Xie Xie was sure if it weren't for the incredible medical care currently available Guang Long would never be able to move again and his career as a soul master would have ended there and then. From one half assed punch.
"Why aren't you using your martial soul right? It's crying." Tang Wulin questioned him bluntly making Xie Xie pause in place. If anyone else said it he would laugh in their face and call them insane but he wouldn't do that to the Crimson Demon. He doesn't want to die.
But the Crimson Demon's words seriously made him think. He didn't want to say the wrong thing and anger the strongest student in Eastsea amongst all grades. But then, suddenly, something strange in the Demon of Destruction's words clicked in his mind.
'Martial soul? Just one?' Xie Xie asked himself in complete bewilderment. Everything felt off, like something had clicked in his mind and something, something innate, was changing permanently.
"Did I break him?" Tang Wulin questioned Gu Yuena seriously, no trace of joking in his voice. It was a simple question meant to assuage his curiosity yet for some odd reason it had caused Xie Xie to blank out.
"It's the opposite. He's most likely having an epiphany." Gu Yuena explained simply before taking another bite of her delicious food. She was already on her third bowl while Wulin had long since surpassed twenty.
"I see." Tang Wulin replied simply, taking note of every detail on Xie Xie's face to use to tell when somebody was having an epiphany. It wasn't a common occurrence however its seriousness warranted at least a little caution.
Out of the three methods of meditation of basic meditation, deep mediation, and awakening mediation or an epiphany, the latter is one of the most important events of any cultivator's life. It was an event similar in importance to becoming a title douluo.
The first form of meditation, basic meditation, was the slowest of the three. It was when a cultivator can freely exit the state and is mostly used to cultivate in dangerous environments or regain soul power.
The second form of meditation, deep meditation, is the meditation used to grow strong in terms of soul power. It is a state where the cultivator loses track of time and all bodily functions such as waste removal or sleep are no longer required though the latter is still beneficial.
It is commonly used to cultivate one's soul power in a safe environment where it is unlikely to be disturbed. Of the three methods, it is the most commonly used as it offers the faster growth one can achieve consistently.
The third and final method was the rarest of the three but also the one that offers the fastest growth. In this state, the cultivator loses all senses and they mindlessly cultivate at a speed upwards of 1000% of their normal efficiency.
Similar to deep meditation it removes the need for waste removal or sleep however it does so with much more efficiency. Entering this state is extremely difficult and generally requires a moment of sudden inspiration frequently referred to as an epiphany.
The degree of these epiphanies affects the duration of the awakening meditation. With a high end epiphany it could last for as long as a year or more however it is widely considered that a month is the least amount of time awakening mediation can take.
When in awakening mediation the cultivator's body is extremely vulnerable and it is impossible for the cultivator to awaken and defend themselves. If the individual is attacked or harmed in any way during this period it will be detrimental to the cultivator and may even result in their death though it often results in the cultivator no longer being able to cultivate.
"We should call Wu Zhangkong but for now let's continue eating." Gu Yuena said without much care, an invisible film of the elements surrounding Xie Xie to ensure he wasn't disturbed. The main element in use was wind and space to separate him from ninety percent of sound and all sound above a certain level.
Nodding his head Tang Wulin raised his hand for his next bowl, Xie Xie completely removed from his mind.
