Chapter 17: Truly Selfless
In the odd man's hand, there was a round old man under five feet tall wearing a grease stained apron, a look of fear on his face as he begged to be released by the strange man. It was fairly obvious that it was a member of the restaurant, perhaps the owner, vs the odd man.
However, the situation quickly derailed when a young child their age wearing luxurious and expensive clothing dashed out of the restaurant, a golden dagger in his hand as he slashed at the odd man who dodged backward, releasing the old man as a result.
"Don't touch Uncle Li!" The handsome child demanded angrily, his voice full of arrogance and wrath, both clouding his mind from the reality in front of him. He was obviously outmatched. He was a talented child but he was nothing in front of the odd man at the moment.
"A single ring soul master dares be so arrogant?" The odd man spoke arrogantly, not at all concerned about the knife pressed against his throat. Rather, he pushed it into his neck as he turned around and threw the child off of him.
'Xie Xie of class one. Soul power rank, seventeen. Martial souls, Light Dragon Dagger and Shadow Dragon Dagger. Current threat level, 0%,' Tang Wulin recalled the information of the boy in front of him.
As a student of class one, he had paid a certain degree of attention to him and all his attributes. The information gathered by FUG was extremely detailed, even listing his relationship with the restaurant owner in depth, so he had a good understanding of Xie Xie.
'Guang Long, brother of Mecha Brigade Leader Guang Biao. Soul Power rank, 27. Martial soul, Armored Dragon. Threat level, 0%.' Wulin reported to himself. He took note of all the important people in Eastsea City and he was one of them.
This wasn't because of his own strength or importance but rather the importance of his older brother Guang Biao who was a rank 63 Spirit Emperor who had immense influence in the city as the leader of the strongest military brigade.
Due to the martial soul suppression, Tang Wulin would most likely win in a fight even without entering |Level 2| but it was not worth this risk without proper preparation or reason. However, that wasn't to say Tang Wulin wasn't prepared.
He had preemptively prepared for a confrontation and had gathered all the crimes Guang Biao and his brother had committed over the years while using his authorities to sweep them under the rug. Hopefully, using them Tang Wulin wouldn't even need to fight Guang Biao to win.
Stepping out of the building he had been thrown into Xie Xie glared at Guang Long, his arrogance gone, and in its palace was immense wrath. His uncle had been abused, his pride crushed, and his opponent did it all with an infuriating smirk. He was angered beyond belief.
Sprinting forward Xie Xie attempted to use his speed advantage to defeat his opponent however besides ripping Guang Long's clothes into shreds he hadn't accomplished anything, his tough skin not even crimson from the flurry of slashes.
"Don't test your luck brat!" Guang Long shouted, a wide smirk on his face as he swung his arm horizontally catching Xie Xie by surprise. Raising his hands up in an X shape Xie Xie was sent flying, his ribs cracking under the stress.
"Let's help them." Gu Yuena declared confidently after watching for long enough, a malicious smirk on her face as she eyed the situation with the intention of getting as many benefits as possible from it.
"Why?" Tang Wulin asked her lightly, not opposed to the idea but rather confused about her intentions. If it was logical he would help, if not he simply wouldn't help. It wasn't like she needed his help though.
"Just think about the free food. Besides, if they keep fighting there won't be a restaurant to eat at." Gu Yuena explained simply, an amused grin on her face as she watched the two fight one another. Xie Xie was doing surprisingly well for being ten ranks behind.
"Alright." Tang Wulin agreed. Comparing the pros and cons, it wasn't usually worth offending Guang Biao for a free meal however considering his large appetite and the information he can dangle over Guang Biao's head, there was no real threat.
"I'll leave it up to you then." Gu Yuena said simply, waving him off haughty. Nodding his head Tang Wulin walked toward the two fighting, the sound of his footsteps being drowned out by the fighting.
Leaning backward Xie Xie barely dodged another horizontal swipe from his opponent. Using his downward momentum he did a back handspring to make distance and fix his stance however he froze once his eyes were at a normal level.
Hair and eyes the same crimson as blood, a handsome yet expressionless face that made everyone uncomfortable, and a thin physique that perfectly hid his overwhelming power. In front of Xie Xie was the being everyone in Eastsea Academy feared, the Demon of Destruction.
Pausing in place, fear overtook Xie Xie's soul as he watched the Crimson Demon slowly approach them. He had only seen the Crimson Demon in action a single time and his physical power was terrifying. Even worse, he had seen what came out of a battle with another monster.
On the day the Elemental Saint appeared in the school, there was a fight that shook the entire school. If it weren't for the class five teacher, the Cold God's forethought to create a barrier half the campus would have been destroyed.
However, when he and his classmates went to see the source of the rumbling after it had ended, there was nothing there. It seemed to be just as it was the day before, with the exception of the traumatized children fighting one another at its side.
That same Demon of Destruction was currently making his way over to him. Had Xie Xie disturbed his meal? Was he trying to get revenge for something!? Xie Xie's mind went into overdrive as he tried to remember what he had done while trying his best to ignore the vivid scenes of his death his mind created.
"Haha! It seems you've finally learned to-" Guang Long began however his voice stopped as his body vanished from its place, the sound of an explosion and a dust cloud forming on the other side of the street from his Uncle Li's restaurant.
The opponent Xie Xie had tried so hard to defeat yet couldn't even scratch… had been defeated in a single blow in the blink of an eye. Was this the difference between him and the Demon before him?
"Can we eat for free?" Tang Wulin asked the restaurant owner, ignoring the crisis of Xie Xie.
