Chapter 131: Jade Shadow
After over two weeks of simply rolling around in bed together, the two dragon emperors were prepared to return to Shrek. Hand in hand, the two made their way to the train station while all sorts of eyes fell upon them.
"This reminds me of when I first came to Eastsea City." Chuckling with a wry smile at the memory, Wulin gently squeezed her hands. The biggest difference was her and the unmistakable influence she had on him as a person.
"So sentimental. What happened to the Wulin who was called the Demon of Destruction?" It wasn't too long ago that Wulin had been dubbed as such and his title had only slightly changed since then but he had changed plenty. Still, she has to talk to the Spirit Pagoda about their naming sense since they gave him such a fear inducing name and her something so cringe.
"A certain Jewel stole his heart." Spouting such cheesy nonsense with a wry smile Wulin only laughed at his partner's bone shattering punch. He wasn't weak enough to be hurt by something so small these days.
"Where did you learn to flatter?" Shaking her head with a wry smile, Gu Yuena had a feeling she knew already. Out of all Wulin's teachers, there was one that was most similar to the current Wulin. A certain former strongest in the world who liked to play the fool with his silver tongue.
"Who knows~?" Playfully responding to her, Wulin enjoyed their leisurely walk through Shrek City even if there were plenty of people 'subtly' taking photos of the two of them. He couldn't blame them really, Gu Yuena was stunning.
"Is this what you had to deal with? So many homewreckers…" Rolling her eyes at the mere idea, Gu Yuena could hardly believe they thought they stood a chance. Even if misguided, their confidence was commendable.
"Well, it comes with the trade." Most cultivators were attractive since it was a byproduct of soul power cultivation. He and Gu Yuena were among the upper echelon of beauty even still but love troubles and stalkers were common issues with cultivators.
Rolling her eyes Gu Yuena didn't respond, simply holding his hand as they wandered through the city without destination. They were still rather early so there was no rush to return to Shrek just yet so they intended to spend a while in the city.
[Can we visit the Golden Tree? I'm worried for your grandmother.] Breaking the silence, Tang San's worried voice echoed through Wulin's mind. The Golden Dragon Emperor had long since expected it so it wasn't much of a surprise though it was rare to hear such genuine worry in his father's tone.
Then again, perhaps that was to be expected. Though Wulin had managed to stall the merging of universes and Seto and Imort had managed to take over in recent days, it was still a worrying thing for their family.
The Golden Tree was the life core of the planet and the spirit of the Golden Tree was Tang San's mother and Wulin's grandmother. Wulin had met her once or twice in the past though it was difficult for her to descend to the mortal world to speak to him these days so it happened rarely. This wasn't an issue that could be put off however even if it would strain her.
While the Planar Lord, Wulin's grandfather, would remain unaffected by the merging of universes the same couldn't be said for his grandmother. She was intrinsically connected to the life of the planet and that meant this change was affecting her. Wulin wasn't sure if it was positive or negative though.
Their planet was dying. Or, more accurately, it was already dead. Thousands of years of civilization had led to them bleeding the planet dry of all its resources and that meant his grandmother was losing power. It was also why they could only meet so rarely.
However, an untouched and rich land was being brought into this world alongside numerous pristine locations such as the Eternal Sea. These changes were certainly good but Wulin was unsure if the universal merging made that all for not.
Turning his head to the side, Wulin felt a fleeting presence suddenly appear nearby. It was a familiar sight and yet it was very different than he remembered. Far stronger and yet far more subdued.
Looking toward his other half in unhidden amusement, Wulin was met with a nearly identical expression. Nodding her head the two disappeared in a flurry of silver, the two emperors in an entirely different part of the city.
It didn't take long for the two of them to find their target, a young boy with sharp features creeping through the back alleyway with lust in his eyes. He looked longingly at his target, his mouth salivating at the thoughts running through his mind.
"Finally, I found you!" Muttering under his breath the boy threw his hands into the air, the sharp emerald eyes of Xie Xie filled with an insanity that wasn't previously there. "I can finally have meat again!" Cackling like a madman Xie Xie ran forward with lovestruck eyes.
However that expression suddenly vanished, his expression hardening as his body vanished in an instant. It was an instinctive reaction for him to enter the reverse world when such a vengeful energy washed over him and usually it worked well. But not this time.
A hand reached through the boundaries of space and pulled him out of the reverse world before he could even think of running away. Looking at the golden haired youth in spite, the Jade Shadow looked at his enemy hatefully despite being fully calm.
Scrutinizing his opponent for any weaknesses Xie Xie was instead met with an odd sensation, one that almost made him lower his guard. The smug expression, the deep crimson eyes, the general face structure, the earring, and the unwavering sense of power… they were all so familiar to Xie Xie.
"Boss!?" It had taken Xie XIe longer than he would like to admit to recognizing the man he had spent the last three years with but who could blame him? It wasn't just his hair color that had changed, his entire atmosphere had changed! Rather, if Xie Xie didn't know Wulin so well he wouldn't have recognized him at all!
"It's been a while, Xie Xie." Patting the Jade Dragon King's atavist on the back, Wulin couldn't stop the urge to smile. After all, it had been quite a while since he saw his best friend and they had plenty to talk about. "Why don't we get a meal? Your treat of course."
Xie Xie's smile fell at that.
****
Hey there, hope you liked the chapter.
To be completely honest, I think Xie Xie may be my favorite character. I feel that out of any character I've written in this ff, he's probably the most likeable. I don't exactly know why but I feel like any chapter he's in just turns out really well.
