Chapter 11: Russo-Japanese War part 2
As the Russians cross the Yalu River the same thing happens at the Tumen River both which make up the entire border of Manchuria with Korea.
Both rivers are wide so it took some time to cross them but due to the lack of enemy forces they had no need to worry of a attack.
Once the Russian forces made across the River they set up camp to reorganize and start their attack strategy. As the front is wide Anastasia couldn't command the entire Army so she choose Generals to lead the fronts where she can't be present.
Anastasia leads the central Army
General Alexi leads the eastern Army
General Michael leads the western Army
Each will be responsible of their front with Anastasia drawing up plans to attack from multiple sides at the same time leaving the Japanese with no room to defend from and dig in. The plans where drawn during the first battle at the border and finalized when the time to cross has come.
Now each General will lead their men consisting of 100.000 troops each.
Anastasia has about 180.000 to 200.000 tropps as the central Army. Additional reinforcements are expected.
Major cities are the main targets as they are supply hubs and cutting them of will starve the Japanese of much needed supply and the surrounding regions.
General Alexi will lead the Eastern Army to take Hoeryong, Undonk and Najin.
General Michael will lead the Western Army to take Chosan, and Sinuiju.
Anastasia will lead the Central Army to take Samjiyon, Heysan, Huchang and Kanggye.
With the main Japanese force still at Pyongyang the other cities will have limited defense forces. So it is the optimal time to attack.
"Alright, time to show the Japanese the Russian spirit." Anastasia planned to quickly take all the before mentioned cities and stage a direct assault in the Korean heartland.
"Oh Lord protect my men and guide them to victory." Anastasia has a habit of praying since the assassination attempt 4 years ago that left a psychological impact on her young mind and soul.
What she doesn't know that her prayer resulted in a invisible light impacting the Russians Army's with the soldiers feeling lighter than before boosting their already high moral as they believed that Anastasia was a real Saint as the Church said and this felling solidified their belief.
To have a Saint lead them to battle was a glory only those like the soldiers of Joan of Arc experienced and now they have that glory too.
And so the Russians marched with haste to their targets.
.
.
.
Huchang
The City of Huchang was a border city that held the previously now dead Japanese that attacked Manchuria.
Now it's being besieged by the Russians as the sides have turned with the Japanese and collaborative Koreans struggling to hold of the Russians admist Artillery fire with Buildings collapsing on top of them.
BOOM
BOOM
"WHERE ARE THE REINFORCEMENTS?!"
The Comander yelled at his officers in the comand tent as his face was close to bursting in blood due to the redness of his face.
"S-Sir!, the reinforcements are at Pyongsong Sir!"
The officers are scared not wanting to anger their ruthless Comander to the point of executing them.
"THEY ARE AT PYONSONG! ARE YOU PLAYING WITH ME YOU PICE OF SHIT!"
"AH- Sir I'm telling the truth Sir!"
BOOM WUUSHHH
"AAA HELP ME MY LEG!"
Artillery fire exploded outside the tent and blew the guards up with one surviving but missing his leg.
*Flutter*
"S-Sir the Russians entered the city we need to fall back!" A soldier entered the tent and screamed at the officers in a desperate tone that betrayed his stoic face.
*Slam*
"Damm the Russians! Fine everyone relay the soldiers to fall back to the center we will set up new defenses there!"
At the same time at the Russian side
"Hmm, focus the Artillery at the city center and collapse the buildings."
The comanders stared at Anastasia as she ordered. "Sir, the center houses possible civilians we can't recklessly shoot Artillery at the center." Anastasia stared at the officer who said that and sighed. "Officer we surround the city completely with other fronts doing the same, where do you think will the enemy retreat to if not further inwards?"
The Officers looked at the one who spoke up as the same man started to sweat. "But the civilians- Collateral damage and besides this is war, civilian death is expected." Anastasia interrupted him as she said with a heavy sigh.
She doesn't like the death of the innocent but what can you do about it in war? Nothing, you can do nothing about it. This is how it is and how it will always be. You can't prevent it and the only way to do it is to not wage war but that's not possible. The Japanese attacked and now they pay the price in the death of their young men and women who die needlessly for the greed of their Government.
"Yes sir"
That's all that was needed as the Artillery started to rain fire further in the City destroying any and all defensive structures killing the occupants who where defending the sector.
The Russian doctrine of Artillery is to first soften the enemy by Artillery barrages with the soldiers cleaning up the rest who managed to stay alive in one piece and not missing their body parts.
But don't underestimate the Russian soldiers as they are trained in the art of killing you foe in the quickest and most efficient manner.
The battle for Huchang ended with a Russian victory leaving no one alive of the enemy soldiers with mid level civilian deaths. Acceptable levels in war.
But this is jut one of other fronts across Korea as the 3 Army's besiege the cities they are targeting.
So far the first city is taken leaving the surrounding regions defenseless as Anastasia left a garrison at the city and continued inwards into Korea.
The War Continues.
