Chapter 6: Goa Kingdom
After talking, Zavia understands that the time point he is currently at is still three years before the original world storyline begins.
That is, Ace has already set out to sea now, but whether or not he has joined Whitebeard yet, Zavia does not know.
However, if he has joined, then Zavia might feel a little more at ease, after all during the time Ace was rampaging on the seas, the Navy might have gone looking for Ace.
"Oh? It's Vice Admiral Garp! Welcome back!"
At this time, a young sailor who was patrolling the edge of the ship saw Garp walking up on the beach below and shouted out while saluting.
"This is your warship, old Garp?"
"Of course, did you see the dog head in front? That was my idea, what do you think? Not bad huh, hahahaha."
In just these short ten minutes, Zavia was on such casual terms with Garp that he directly called him old man, and Garp was also very easygoing. He didn't show any emotion towards this form of address.
One really can't underestimate him as Luffy's grandfather, or perhaps he was just used to Ace always calling him that. Zavia feels that Garp has some unknown nostalgia towards being called this now.
"Vice Admiral Garp, who is this?"
Walking onto the plank to get on the warship, the sailor who had just saluted Garp came over and glanced at Zavia.
"Oh, he's Zavia, my new student. Take that guy to the brig."
Garp threw Mohsen who was over his shoulder onto the floor. The floor made a crisp sound from Mohsen's fall, one listen and you know these wooden boards were made of good wood.
"Yes sir! Zavia right? Welcome to the Navy. Although you look older than me, after all you're the new one, so I'm your senior!"
After handcuffing Mohsen on the floor, the young sailor dragged him away while emphasizing to Zavia that he was the senior.
"Hmm, looks like my life in the Navy will be quite miserable."
Zavia shrugged. He didn't show any emotion towards the other party's words. It was just that typical "you have to understand the rules as a newcomer" situation right? Zavia wasn't unaware.
But he wasn't worried either, because based on Garp's personality, he probably wouldn't let that kind of situation happen on his ship. Plus the people who follow Garp also tend to become more casual. So the chances of that happening weren't high.
"Hahahaha, Zavia brat don't worry. On my ship, that kind of bullying won't happen. Although I don't think those guys can beat you anyway." Garp patted Zavia heavily on the back as he guffawed.
Well, of course Zavia knew it was impossible. So he didn't take the other guy's words to heart at all. He guessed it was probably because that sailor had the "lowest status" here.
Probably...
"So, where are you going now? Back to Navy Headquarters in Marineford?"
"No, I'm on vacation. I'm going back to see my grandson in Goa Kingdom."
"Grandson?"
"Ah, that kid. I bet he's still shouting about wanting to be a pirate! Damn annoying, that guy Shanks!"
Hearing Garp's words, Zavia glanced at Garp beside him. It was fine if he didn't look, but when he did, there was still a trace of happiness on Garp's face. He just didn't know if it was real or fake.
After all, Zavia didn't have a clear understanding whether Garp actually supported or opposed Luffy becoming a pirate.
If you said he supported it, looking at his past brainwashing of Luffy and "Fists of Love", that didn't match up with support at all. But if you said he opposed it...
Given all the various "feats" Luffy accomplished after becoming a pirate, not only was Garp not ashamed, but he even felt very proud instead. This made it unclear to Zavia whether Garp actually supported or opposed Luffy becoming a pirate. But Zavia guessed it should be opposed, just looking at the incident with Ace...
But going to Goa Kingdom huh? That's good too. Anyway Luffy still hadn't set out to sea at this time. Currently it was 1517 in the pirate calendar. There was still three years before Luffy would set sail. It would be good to get more familiar with Luffy during this vacation period of Garp's. Zavia thought thusly.
———Three days later————
Time passed swiftly, and soon it was three days later.
Zavia's life during this time was still quite fulfilling, at least much better than those few hours on the deserted island.
During this time, Zavia had bonded with the sailors under Garp. At first, due to Zavia's appearance they felt Zavia would be a very unapproachable person.
Zavia understood this point too. After all, Vergil's cold personality really made people hard to get close to. Even if Zavia was all smiles every day wanting to change Vergil's gloomy face a bit, there was no way.
Vergil's face seemed innate like that. This left Zavia very speechless, but at least they finally bonded in the end. As expected of Garp's crew.
Regarding why Zavia wanted to join the Navy, the reason was actually very simple. It was the difference between official and unofficial.
If he became part of the Navy, then Zavia could learn much more complete and systematic knowledge and ability systems, while pirates could not.
To give an example, the Six Powers (Rokushiki). One could say this was a skill Zavia had desperately wanted back when he was reading One Piece in his past life.
Plus now that he had become Vergil, Soru (Shave), Tekkai (Iron Body), and Shigan (Finger Gun) from the Six Powers would be very beneficial for the current Zavia. After all he couldn't guarantee he would have the Yamato sword on him during every battle. He might need to fight barehanded.
Well, although Zavia wouldn't let that kind of situation happen. But the necessary martial arts still had to be learned a bit.
And by becoming part of the Navy, Zavia could also learn Haki faster. Observation, Armament, and Conqueror's Haki had absolute benefits for someone like him currently using a sword, with no downsides.
These were Zavia's basic thoughts for considering joining the Navy initially. By being in the Navy he could not only learn more knowledge, but also gain abilities faster. Pirates could not.
For pirates to obtain these things, they would possibly need to lower themselves to beg others. Of course it was also possible for them to be taken in by some powerful figure who then passed things onto them.
But Zavia did not think any powerful figures would take notice of him. At the same time, he absolutely would not lower himself to beg others!
"Hmm? Is that Goa Kingdom?"
At this time Zavia stood at the bow, feeling the gentle sea breeze blowing by. His gaze looking at the island up ahead.
Although he had seen this place before in his past life, seeing it in person still felt a little different from seeing it on a screen after all. Zavia looked at the island, his eyes filled with emotions.
He remembered back in his past life, sitting in front of the computer eating snacks and drinking soda. Getting all emotional and crying over the 2D characters on the screen, wishing he could become the so-called chosen one and arrive in the 2D world.
And now, he had fulfilled his wish. He had to thank that demon god for this. Although he still didn't understand the reasons behind it. But who cares about so much? This trip was worth it.
"That's right. That's East Blue's Goa Kingdom. I wonder what that useless grandson is up to now." Garp walked over from behind, both arms crossed. His navy coat fluttering in the wind.
"Oh right, shouldn't you be entering from the harbor? Why go around to the back?" Zavia looked puzzled as the ship gradually moved away from Goa Kingdom's harbor. Why wasn't Garp entering Goa from the harbor?
"I've always entered like this if there's no major incidents. If I go straight to Foosha Village."
"Is... that so?"
Zavia just shrugged at this. Whatever, it didn't matter to him whether Garp entered Goa from the harbor or not. If anything, it made him feel like laughing a bit.
One could say, if Garp openly entered Goa from the harbor like that, Zavia would have to face the ugly visages of Goa's residents. That would make him very annoyed, because he didn't actually like Goa that much in the first place. The only part he liked was that small Foosha Village inside Goa.
As the warship gradually approached the coast near Foosha Village, more and more villagers gathered there. Clearly they had already seen Garp's ship from afar.
"It's Vice Admiral Garp!"
"It's Garp! Been awhile since we've seen him!"
"..."
On the shore, many people revealed happy smiles on their faces. Those looks were different from others. It wasn't admiration, but more of the mood between old friends.
The ship's speed gradually slowed until the warship gently docked at the shore. A few sailors carried over a long wooden plank, propping it between the ship's side and the shore to form a simple wooden bridge.
"Vice Admiral Garp, welcome back."
Garp had just walked off the ship when a bunch of people already surrounded him, greeting Garp in various ways. Garp just simply replied to a few and then strode off, leaving his men behind.
"Is this your daily life in Foosha Village?"
Zavia followed behind Garp, taking a look back at those villagers and kids. He wouldn't mention the villagers, but just those kids. Their eyes were filled with admiring looks.
"Pretty much."
Garp just picked his nose at this, completely unconcerned.
Following Garp, they arrived at a forest. In the middle of the forest was a protruding mound called Mt. Colubo. The leader inside was the bandit Curly Dadan.
After walking in the forest for 10 minutes, Zavia followed Garp to a place resembling a territory.
This place looked very clean at first glance. Clearly it was cleaned regularly. There were also sheets and blankets hanging out to dry in the yard. How could this be a bandit's residence? It totally looked like a normal family's home!
"So this is Dadan's wooden house? I quite liked this place when reading the original work. After all there were many beautiful things that happened here." Zavia looked all around, murmuring to himself. His eyes revealed a hint of nostalgia.
"Hmm? What did you say?"
"Nothing."
"What a weird guy."
Facing Zavia's attitude, Garp just picked his nose again and stopped paying attention. Then he strode towards the house.
(Isn't "weird" more suitable for you?)
Zavia looked at Garp with his dead fish eyes. In his opinion, he was much more normal than Garp. At least he wouldn't fall asleep while talking.
