CEO’s Billion Dollar BabyMomma

Chapter 21: Chapter 21: How can I make you stay?

"How much do I have to pay to make you stay?" Alex asked out of the blue, causing Eve's heart to skip a beat. She fixed her gaze on him, who had been doing the same all this time, and he repeated his question, "I can pay if that will make you stay."

Eve was stunned by his bluntness. It was so unlike him, who was usually cunning and cruel with his method, at least when dealing with business affairs back then.

'How am I supposed to answer that?' Eve asked herself as she was too stunned to speak. She felt uncomfortable imagining herself with Alex holding their baby together, as it would inevitably make her fall in love once again. That would be a perfect picture of a beautiful family she had always wished for. But she refused to give her heart to this lying scumbag once more. "You know I don't lack money, right? I might not be filthy rich like you are, but I am quite well off by myself."

"Of course, what I mean to pay is by any means necessary. Tell me what you want, and I will give it to you," Alex said. His cold-blue gaze deepened, and he stared at her unblinkingly, waiting for her answer. "You already know my background. It's not difficult for me to grant any of your wishes. Name your price, Evelyn."

"You cannot grant it, even if you have the whole world in your hand," Eve replied curtly. She bit her lower lip lightly to quench her nervousness. She was uncomfortable showing her true feelings in front of him.

Alex genuinely couldn't fathom her words just now. He had billions of dollars worth of estate and businesses soon under his name. Unless she asked him for the moon, he believed he could still grant whatever wishes she had.

"You're underestimating me, Eve. Just tell me what you want so you can stay for our children," Alex insisted.

"I said, you will never be able to grant it!"

"How expensive is that thing you want? Ten million? A hundred? One billion? Ten?! Just tell me already!" Alex grew impatient. He started to feel frustrated as he was confident that he could buy her to stay.

But her next words made him realize that she was right.

He couldn't buy that.

Eve's lips began to tremble as she said, "You. I want Alexander. But not this man sitting right in front of me. I want that broke Alex who tried his best to make ends meet for both of us. I want Alex, who was so happy when we got our first paycheck. I want Alex, who had a similar life with me growing up, so we sketched our dreams together inside that dream journal to motivate ourselves. I want Alex, who said that I am the only one he has in this world."

"So, unless you can magically turn back the time and remove your real background from existence, then you will NEVER be able to grant that wish, no matter how much money you have."

Alex was absolutely silenced after her rant, and that last sentence was like a death sentence for him because she was right.

He couldn't buy that with his money.

Alex suddenly lost his excitement and willpower. He was silenced and deflated on his seat as if he had been defeated.

Eve was actually feeling guilty seeing him so crestfallen. This man was always full of life, whether it was the fake him whom she dated for five years, or the real him who was the arrogant billionaire heir and actor.

Just from his eyes, it was obvious that he had everything under control and was always one step ahead of everyone.

But now, it looked like he was the one in big trouble, not her.

She opened her mouth, wanting to say something to cheer him up. She even thought that she should just ask for something else in exchange for her staying with him.

'No, Evelyn. Don't lower your guard just because he looks sad. He's faking it. I'm sure he is!' Eve convinced herself to toughen her heart.

Fortunately, this uncomfortable silence between them didn't last long, as they heard the cough coming from the elevator. A butler and two maids walked in with the food that Alex cooked for them.

Eve wanted to cheer him up subtly, so she muttered;

"I'm curious what kind of food you cook for us tonight."

Alex regained some energy after hearing that Eve was curious about what he made. He had a thin smile as the maids put their food on the table. "I cooked steak from the highest quality A5 wagyu beef that you can find. Had to hire a private chef to teach me how to grill them perfectly, especially since I know you like it medium to medium-rare."

Eve was quite excited about it. She grabbed the knife and fork and said, "Then, let me test your skill, Mr. Langford."

Eve cut the steak in half and marveled over the perfect medium-rare steak with marbles in the meat inside. It also exuded such a pleasant aroma the moment she cut it.

She cut it again into a small piece and took a bite, munching slowly while staring at Alex, who was looking at her with expectations.

Eve swallowed the food after a while, and Alex asked eagerly, "So, what do you think, Chef Evelyn? Am I up to your standard?"

"Hmm… it's better than what I ate in the typical steakhouse, probably on par with the high-end steak I ate last week in a fine dining restaurant," Eve reviewed before giving him a thin smile. "You passed."

Alex knew it was just a small play to lighten up the mood after such a depressing talk, but it also temporarily lifted the cloud in his heart. He was genuinely happy after getting praise from his woman.

"I am honored to serve you, Madame Evelyn," Alex followed their small play. "Let me cook for you every night. Free of charge. You just need to eat them."
