Chapter 91: More Problems!
Chapter 91: More Problems!
*Celia’s POV*
Amelie and Hadi were working hard on the cure, but it would take more than an entire week to actually make it. And we couldn’t just wait until it’s finished, as the undead have started to try to break through the blockades in various areas.
But here’s the thing, no one is willing to fight them. Once bitten, and you’re down for the count. The infection spreads quickly as well. The only reason for there to be bodies in the sewer, is because they were just food to the undead.
What’s worse, is that these undead aren’t like zombies in most fictional media. They were fast, and decently strong, not even mentioning all of the variants of them showing up. I informed Ria about the unblocked exit, who relayed that information to the queen. But no one is willing to block it off…
Rather than risk their lives, and then save everyone, most are evacuating this kingdom. News still spreads slowly in this world, so it took a while for the other kingdoms to actually block people from leaving. It’s just lucky that the undead have been mostly contained.
Nia said that she would be fine, even if she got bitten, due to what kind of Goddess that she is. Though, I denied letting her do all of the work herself. It just wasn’t a fair thing to ask of her, even if she loves me, and will do it if I asked. I am not in the business of using people like disposable pawns, after all.
The church offered bracelets, that supposedly will deter the undead. But upon testing, it didn’t work for these undead at all. Frankly, we were completely stuck, and were facing annihilation…
Ria had asked around my dungeon, and found someone who could make a bracelet, or any other kind of wearable item, that would deter the undead. This was thanks to the research that I found in the sewer.
It took him a few days to figure it out, and a total of three days to actually make the bracelets. They aren’t normal bracelets, so he was only able to make a few of them.
But there was enough for my group, so we planned to head back into the fold. Honestly, I asked him why he didn’t make rings instead, but he told me that rings wouldn’t contain enough of the materials needed to deter the undead.
Granted, we did test them out before agreeing to fight the undead, and the bracelets worked like a charm. Like we have a “No zombies allowed!” bubble around us, no undead would approach closer than a few feet. And if they did get close, they would be blasted away.
Yes, we could have magic users just blast magic at them from a distance, but that didn’t work at all. They were zombies, and they looked to be human, and in some cases, different humanoid races. But they weren’t really stuck to that form at all.
By default, they were super resistant to all forms of magic. Only Amelia and Hadi were actually able to cause them damage. Even rendered to a melty pile of flesh, the undead will still move. The only way to fully kill them, was to smash or slice their bodies apart.
When destroyed with magic, they seem to reform into a slime like monster, but when cut, they do not. As to why, Amelie tried to explain it to us, but it mostly went over our heads, and even Hadi had a hard time understanding her words.
With that, no one was brave, or stupid enough to fight the undead head-on. Well, except us, I guess. To be fair, we do have cool magic charms that mostly protect us from them. Since reach was a problem, Ria, Nia, Lia, and I, were all fielding scythes. Of course, gifted to us by Nia, only temporarily, though.
Holding such a scythe, was unnerving, to say the least. The death scythe felt somewhat alive, and while holding it, I could see an interesting number above people’s heads. Nia refused to explain what the numbers meant, but I could easily guess that it was the remaining time that those people had left to live.
I could even see the numbers above my head as well. Only, that they weren’t numbers, but instead, were just question marks. My group all had question marks above their heads as well, which made me happy. Our group first went to the unsealed beach exit.
Lia couldn’t fly, so I had carried her in a princess carry. Mostly for fun, as Ria could have easily carried her instead. Both Nia and Ria could fly, so only Lia needed a lift.
If stuff like this keeps happening, I’m afraid that Lia might think that she is worthless… No, she is a strong girl, if anything, the more this happens, the more she will want to get stronger. Though, if she starts showing signs like that, I will be sure to help her out.
By the time that the magic bracelets were finished, a few days had passed. As such, there was an army of undead just marching along the road. The town near the sea was luckily blocked off, so no one in it fell victim to the undead.
Though, there was a bunch of them clawing at the walls. Such a thing probably greatly frightened the people of that city… I guess that we should clean up asap, right?
At first, we decided to land near the end of the undead hoard. There were well over a few thousand of them. Which means two things, one, this will take a while, and two, I will get a LOT of Experience for killing them!
Celia: “Everyone, at the first sign that you will be bitten, just retreat.” I say with a serious tone.
Everyone nodded to my words, and then the fighting began. Using a scythe against enemies that can’t even reach you, is a little overpowered… No wonder Nia loves using a scythe. Yeah, sure she is a Death Goddess, but she told me that doesn’t actually HAVE to use a scythe. She just prefers it over other weapons that she can materialize. Ah, right, back to the fight!
*Hours Later.*
I feel like we should be rewarded with medals for this… Anyway, with long reach, and an invisible barrier around us, clean up was a breeze. A thousand undead turned to only a few in just a few hours. Granted, there seems to be an almost endless number of them still coming out of the exit, but we surely thinned down their numbers somewhat.
Frankly, I think that the cheering from the towns people, really helped with how fast we culled these undead. I might not have been the strongest here, but I still was the leader of this fight. As such, when we got close to the exit, I was the first to reach it.
The exit looked similar to a bunker, just under a raised hill. As I rounded the corner of it, a huge zombie showed up. It was fucking Doug again! I was very confident in my bracelet, so I didn’t feel the need to keep my guard up.
This here lies my mistake, as Doug just ran right up to me, and attacked. The bracelet had no effect on him at all, and we didn’t get a chance to test it out on these big undead… I dodged his attack by rolling under it. As I got back up on my feet, the fucker backhanded me, and sent me off flying into the ocean…
I lost over 6,000 HP just from that one hit alone… That is more than half of my total HP at the moment. But I shall worry about that later, as I still fucking flying over the ocean! I cannot even use my own flying magic to stop, as the force of Doug’s attack was just that strong. As I gave up escaping this forced fly, someone caught me in midair…
