Chapter 88: The Start of the Operation
"Here, take this fifth-tier magic core."
After regaining her strength, Yun Yun radiated an aura of nobility and grace. With her cool, clear voice, a faint light flashed from the ring on her delicate hand, and a red crystal, pulsing with a terrifyingly violent energy, appeared.
"This is the magic core of a fifth-tier magical beast, the Vajra Flame Ape. My master obtained it during a rare opportunity," Yun Yun explained as she extended her hand, offering the core to Mo Yu.
"Oh, a trophy from Yun Shan," Mo Yu thought to himself, recognizing the name.
He reached out and took the fifth-tier magic core from her, giving it a brief glance before calmly storing it in his Beast Ring. He had no immediate plans to let his Scarlet Phoenix Sky Thunder devour the core. For one, Yun Yun was right there with him, and more importantly, he knew from experience that there was a limit to how much energy his body could absorb at once. If he took in too much, it could overload and harm his body.
In other words, even if he were to absorb this fifth-tier magic core, the maximum energy he could gain might only push him up two or three stars. If the energy was too much, his body wouldn't be able to handle it. It would be better to save it for when he was about to break through to a higher level; that way, he could make the most of it.
Yun Yun was slightly surprised by how nonchalantly Mo Yu accepted the fifth-tier magic core. Even though the Amethyst Winged Lion King had dismissed the core as insignificant, it was still a fifth-tier core, and Mo Yu, a mere Dou Zhe (Battle Practitioner), was taking it so calmly. It was almost unbelievable.
"Alright, let's get going," Mo Yu said after securing the core, his excitement growing at the thought of the treasures hidden in the Amethyst Winged Lion King's lair.
"Mm," Yun Yun nodded slightly. With a slight tremor, a pair of azure energy wings unfurled from her back.
Seeing this, Mo Yu had no intention of letting Yun Yun carry him like some burden, as if he were taking advantage of the situation. He activated his Dou Qi, and with a faint tingle on his back, a pair of violet energy wings emerged, matching the patterns of the Purple Carving tattoo on his back.
Although his violet wings didn't carry the same power as Yun Yun's, they were well-formed and highlighted Mo Yu's unique, ethereal charm. Standing side by side, their wings—one azure, the other violet—complemented each other, making them appear less like a Dou Zhe and a Dou Huang, and more like a perfect pair.
Yun Yun couldn't help but feel a ripple of surprise in her clear eyes. When she first saw the wings, she was startled, thinking Mo Yu might be hiding his true strength. However, upon sensing that his Dou Qi was still at the Dou Zhe level, she realized he was using an exceptionally rare flying technique.
Seeing how Mo Yu stubbornly maintained his wings, refusing to rely on her for flight, Yun Yun found his pride both amusing and admirable. His display of remarkable skill planted a small seed of belief in her heart—maybe, just maybe, he could reach the level of a Dou Huang within five years.
"Let's go," Yun Yun said, her cheeks tinged with a slight blush as she pushed aside her thoughts.
"Alright."
Despite Yun Yun's superior strength, they didn't fly at full speed, as they didn't want to alert any enemies. Thus, Mo Yu managed to keep pace without falling behind. Yun Yun couldn't help but be impressed by how Mo Yu, despite his lower strength, was able to keep up with her.
While they flew, Mo Yu started a conversation. "By the way, was it you who pushed Nalan Yanran to break off the engagement with my cousin, Xiao Yan?"
Yun Yun, usually so composed and regal, felt an inexplicable unease at this question. She seemed concerned that Mo Yu or his family might resent her because of it. After a brief hesitation, she replied softly, "Yanran is a disciple I hold in high regard. I didn't want her to be constrained by marriage. She has a good chance of succeeding me as the leader of the Yun Lan Sect in the future."
Realizing that her words might not be appropriate, Yun Yun glanced at Mo Yu's calm expression and added, "If you feel it was wrong, I can have an elder personally apologize to your family."
As the dominant force in the Jia Ma Empire, sending an elder from the Yun Lan Sect would be a great honor to Mo Yu or his family. However, Mo Yu waved his hand dismissively. "No need. What's done is done. The damage to Xiao Yan and my family can't be undone. Besides, you've lost a good son-in-law, and your prized disciple missed out on a great husband."
Yun Yun frowned slightly, finding Mo Yu's exaggeration hard to believe.
Sensing her doubt, Mo Yu chuckled. "Haha, my cousin Xiao Yan's talent is no less than mine. You'll see at their three-year agreement. He's no ordinary person."
Hearing Mo Yu's praise for Xiao Yan and even comparing him to himself, Yun Yun's expression grew more serious. After observing Mo Yu's talent these past days, she knew how extraordinary he was. Yet, to hear that Xiao Yan, whom she had dismissed as a talentless waste, was equally gifted—it was hard to believe.
Yun Yun made a mental note to push her disciple to train even harder. She couldn't allow Nalan Yanran to be outdone by Mo Yu's cousin.
"Your surname is Mo. Why are you with the Xiao family?" Yun Yun asked after Mo Yu had asked a few questions.
Mo Yu's expression darkened slightly. Without hiding anything, he told her about his conflict with the Mo family of Salt City.
"Salt City's Mo family? You were hunted down by Mo Yin?" Yun Yun's face grew colder as she listened to Mo Yu's story.
"I've heard that the Salt City Mo family has some ties to the Yun Lan Sect," Mo Yu said with a hint of teasing in his voice.
Yun Yun's expression darkened. It seemed that any connection she had with Mo Yu was surrounded by unpleasant circumstances.
"From now on, there won't be," Yun Yun replied, her voice clear and firm. Though her tone was calm, it carried the weight of her authority.
As the current leader of the Yun Lan Sect, Yun Yun's words severed any connection between the sect and the Mo family of Salt City.
Looking at Yun Yun, Mo Yu hadn't expected to hold such significance in her eyes. With just a few words, she had severed the ties between the sect and the Mo family. While Yun Yun wasn't about to help him wipe out the Mo family, her decision was still a significant gesture.
"Thank you," Mo Yu said, nodding. Without the support of the Yun Lan Sect, the Mo family would be much easier to deal with.
"You're welcome."
Yun Yun glanced at Mo Yu, sensing that it might not be long before she heard of the Mo family's demise.
