Chapter 43: Chapter 43
From there, the conversation drifted to neutral topics. I didn't ask them if they wanted to escape, that was obvious. I just warned them that there was a possibility of escape, and I'd let them know when I had a chance. And I left to get acquainted with the other team I was interested in.
They had to huddle together for survival and comfort. And so they formed a team of only men from the country. Mostly just men and old men.
«Got a minute?» I asked the old man who was standing on the edge of the whole team.
«Sure, why not», the old man smiled with an almost toothless mouth.
«You're from the Earthbender group, aren't you?»
«I am, but hardly anyone pays attention to me there anymore», the grandfather muttered grumpily, «That was in my day...»
«I need to talk to the man in charge», I interrupted my grandfather. Still, there wasn't much time left today.
«Eh, you don't respect old age, young man», he looked at me and held out his hand, «Help me up.»
I did so and gently helped the old man to his feet. He walked leisurely toward the center of their team. As he walked, I took a closer look around and noticed several sick people. Apparently, they had become ill from their time in the punishment cell.
But that was good for me, because I could heal them in exchange for their cooperation. Soon, a tall and strong man approached me. If you look at him, he's a working man. But he's in charge here. Although it's not my place to judge who's who by looks.
«What do you want?» his look seemed to match his past.
«Uh, to make a long story short, people are getting hurt and sick here. For certain favors I can help them and heal them», I patted the one beside me, «Why don't you sit down and we can talk about it?»
«Okay», he took a seat across from me, «What favors are you talking about and how can you help?»
«I'm a water mage and I can heal», I gathered a few drops on my palm and showed them to him, «Find me sixty people who hate the Fire Nation and want revenge on them and I'll heal your people.»
«What do you need them for? Oh, and where's the guarantee that you won't betray me?» he asked, only his pulse gave him away and I knew he was all mine.
«The guarantee is that I'll treat them right now and if you don't find the people, I won't treat the next ones in the SHU», I smiled weakly «Is that guarantee okay?»
«Good», he nodded and stood up, «Follow me», I walked to the center of their team, «What do you need for treatment?»
«Bring the sick to the center and surround us so that nothing can be seen. The treatment is accompanied by a light, that's what you'll all be blocking.»
After my words, everyone rushed and brought me seven people who could hardly walk because of their weakness. I was fenced in and the treatment began.
I collected some water and went through the energy channels to see what needed to be treated. Six of them had colds of varying severity, and to fight them it was only necessary to stimulate the body, some more, some less.
In about fifteen minutes I had them up and running, and in two days they would be fine. The last one was a problem. He had pneumonia and was in very bad shape. It would take me at least a couple of days to treat him properly. I told their chief that, but since I was going to cure him, they didn't mind.
That's how a few days flew by as I healed the sick. The thing is, the next day many, if not all, of the prisoners found out. Of course, they all came to me for treatment. And they didn't care that almost all of them were healthy. Yes, a few of them had some organs broken off and I had to deal with that, but ninety percent of them were healthy, and it pissed me off tremendously.
But it got results. So, practically in six days, I cured all the prisoners and recruited sixty people that I needed. Only when I had cured them all did I get to talk to them. That took another two days, but by then I knew everyone's story and was sure these people wouldn't let me down. After choosing a dozen of them, I filled them in on my plans.
I told them about the Avatar, his battle with the Fire Nation, how I'd helped him, and I fed them the story I'd made up about the comet. They took to it, and divided our entire team into ten groups of six, and went off to tell everyone else about my ideas. The next day, when all the details were agreed upon, I began to act.
