Avatar: Mage of All Elements

Chapter 42: Chapter 42

I lay on the old mattress, staring at the metal walls and running through the escape options in my head. It had been two days since I'd arrived here. I'd patched myself up pretty well in twenty-four hours. Lucky for me, the air here has a lot of humidity.

And the food is good. If I hadn't lost my concentration on the gondola, my recovery would have been faster. As it is, I've recovered a bit, but I need two, maybe three more days to fully recover.

But today they threw me out in the yard. Rules and all. But I found out that all my stash was undiscovered and waiting to be found. I didn't really talk to anyone because I didn't have time. But the escape plan you choose depends on how many people you have to take out. In total, I have thirty main objects that need to be undermined, and about fifty objects that can be destroyed if possible.

These thirty objects are various factories and plants that make weapons, armor, spare parts, tanks, and other war equipment. The other fifty objects are various factories that make clothes, shoes, and the like. And for all that, I needed people. What can you think about when there's only two hundred people in this prison? Life is a pain.

I'm not interested in that. In my world, prisoners were forced to work: sewing clothes, chopping wood, digging mines. But here, there's none of that. So what's the point of keeping them here? It's a loss for the state. But now it's to my advantage.

I waved my hands gently, gathering moisture from the air. You could say it was an everyday movement. I spread the water evenly over my body and began the treatment. It was accompanied by a small, soft glow, so I had to be careful not to get burned by anyone. I didn't have to worry about that during the day, though.

I had to send healing magic through all the meridians and all over my body at the same time, which made me glow. It must look strange from the outside. And although this method of treatment was much faster and more effective, the downside was that I had to eat a lot, so I had to stop and wait for food periodically.

Fortunately, as a side effect of this treatment, the food I eat is ninety percent digested instead of the usual ten to fifteen percent. I guess I'll try to build on that after the war.

The next three days were uneventful. I sat in my cell and took care of myself. When we were thrown out, I looked at the different Korridors and tried to think of different ways to escape. I was surprisingly good at it, and I had a few more backup options.

When I was completely healed, I decided to check out the local punishment cell. It was only a matter of minutes to get inside. But I decided to combine the fun with the useful. So when they put me out on the street on my sixth day of incarceration, I decided to meet someone. There was a lot to choose from. People of all ages. Women and men. The only thing I didn't know was if there were people from other tribes here. Somehow I had missed that when I was a guard here. I thought I'd check it out.

«Is this seat free?» I went over to a not so young man who was sitting near the wall.

«Take a seat while you're here», he said with a smile, appreciating the joke. I sat down next to him. «What are you doing here?»

«I wanted to know, are there only Fire Tribe people here, or are there others?» I tried not to speak too loudly so that the old man could hear me.

«Hmm. Probably only twenty, maybe thirty people. I only know a few», he paused and thought and nodded, «Yeah, definitely not more than thirty. There, see that group of people over there?» he pointed to a group of twenty, «They are from the land of Earth. And those over there», he pointed to a man of five, «They are from the Water Tribe.»

I raised my eyebrows in surprise. How on earth did they end up here? We'd have to find out. I thanked the old man and walked in their direction. There were four men and a girl of about thirty. And it was immediately obvious that these guys were guarding them.

My approach didn't go unnoticed and the men moved in, shielding the girl from me. Heh, they're funny.

«What do you want?» one of them asked.

«I just came by to say hello», I said with a smile. Oh, I can't do this. As soon as I see a big forehead who isn't very friendly with me, I want to provoke him and punch him in the face, «We're from the same people, after all.»

«Are you from the Water Tribe?» the girl asked. And her voice was very pleasant. And familiar.

«Yes», her voice reminded me of someone. And the appearance was similar. «Can I ask you some questions?»

«That depends», she said in front of one of the guards.

«You wouldn't happen to be from the South Pole, would you?» I cast my line.

«Yes, I am», she nodded, «And how did you know that?»

«Are you by any chance the wife of the chief?» and at this question, her eyes ran in panic, and the guards were already looking very unfriendly and preparing to throw me away «And one last question, did you have children named Katara and Soka?» now that I saw her reaction, I realized that I had hit the bull's eye. This is Katara and Sookie's mother. That's lucky.

«From where?» she asked in shock.

«Your daughter looks just like you», I said with a gentle smile. The guards had stopped staring at me like wolves.

«What's wrong with her? Is she okay?» she asked quickly.

«Yes, she's fine. She's fine», I reassured her, «You can be proud of her. She found the Avatar. She's traveling with him now», and I think I was wrong to say that. She got nervous. «Don't worry. Sokka's with her», she got even more nervous after that.

«Have you seen her lately?» she asked, almost crying. Maybe from finding out that her children were alive, maybe from the fact that her children might be in danger, or maybe both.

«About four or five months ago. She came to Kyoshi Island, where I lived. As far as I know, they were on their way to the Northern Water Tribe for magic training», I thought for a moment before continuing, «They have good training there, so you don't have to worry. And they have an Avatar with them, so they'll be welcome, don't worry.»
