Ch8 - To the Adventurers' Guild
8: To the Adventurers’ Guild
The concept of a “fluffy cafe” is unfamiliar in this world. Although it’s disheartening, if it’s not already a thing, then we should work on making it popular here.
After all, who wouldn’t be thrilled to be surrounded by fluffiness? No one, surely!
(I’m going to make fluffiness a trend in this world!)
And as for black work environments—if such things exist here, I could help heal those too.
“Oh, right. Sharlty, is there a place where Luke and I can stay together? We were turned away from the inns because of his size…”
“It’s true that he’s quite large. However, the Tamer Guild does provide accommodation for registered tamers. It’s a more affordable option than staying at an inn, with a cost of 2000 per night.”
According to Sharlty, this large building and the courtyard behind it are part of the Tamer Guild. They have some space reserved for tamers with large monsters like Luke.
“I’d like to book a stay, then…”
“Certainly. How many nights do you plan to stay?”
“Let’s start with five nights.”
I took out a large silver coin to pay for the accommodation. After paying, my wallet only contained a single large silver coin and five smaller ones. It felt rather precarious.
(I need to find a job or something soon, or my funds will run out quickly…)
“Then, I’ll show you to your room.”
“Okay.”
Following Sharlty down a corridor next to the reception, we arrived at a walkway facing the courtyard.
The courtyard featured a large tree, plenty of flowers, and a small pond. It wasn’t very large—about 50 meters in both directions.
There were a few dog-like monsters, possibly the guild staff’s familiars.
“Want to play here, Luke?”
“Don’t lump me in with dogs. A proud Fenrir like me would never play ball in a place like this.”
“Too bad.”
(But Luke’s tail is reacting a bit…)
I thought Luke might enjoy playing with a ball if I bought one, and I smiled.
“You’re welcome to use the courtyard freely. There’s also a well.”
“Thank you.”
“You’re a valuable addition to the Tamer Guild! If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask.”
Sharlty’s words caused my smile to twitch slightly.
“…So, are there not many tamers around here?”
Sharlty’s expression hardened at my question.
(As I suspected…)
“Well, it’s not exactly a common profession. But tamers are very attractive because they can use their monsters to cover each other’s weaknesses in battles. It’s just that taming strong monsters is quite challenging. It’s more of a job for advanced practitioners.”
While there is also the possibility of raising weak monsters to become strong, the inherent strength of a monster has its limits. To tame stronger monsters, one needs the strength and allies to reach their locations. It’s challenging for a tamer without strong monsters to join high-ranking parties.
That’s why few choose to become tamers.
“I see, that makes sense.”
“Exactly… That’s why we’re so happy to have you here! Please, continue to support the Tamer Guild!”
“Sure.”
Since I just want to peacefully open a fluffy cafe, there’s no problem with being part of the Tamer Guild. I won’t be taking on combat quests.
(Oh, speaking of which…)
“Do you buy monster materials? I have some here.”
“Typically, adventurer guilds handle the purchase of monster materials. We only buy materials needed for the profession, like certain fruits or herbs that specific monsters like.”
“Got it. I’ll head to the adventurer guild for that.”
I had forgotten that, during our journey through the forest, Luke had defeated monsters which I had put into my magic bag. Selling those would improve my financial situation.
I rested in the room provided and then decided to head to the Adventurers’ Guild.
The Adventurers’ Guild was bustling with people, unlike the quiet Tamer Guild. There was a line at the counter, and it seemed like it would take a while.
“This place is packed…”
“Well, it’s expected. Adventurers must be tired too. Let’s queue up.”
After waiting for 20 minutes in line at the counter marked for purchases, it was finally my turn.
“Hello. Please place the materials on the counter for assessment.”
“Um, they’re quite large and numerous, so they won’t fit on the counter. What should I do?”
“Really? Well, we don’t usually handle large items here…”
The receptionist looked puzzled, so I pointed to my magic bag with a wry smile.
“Oh, a magic bag! I see. Follow me, and I’ll show you to the back.”
(I didn’t realize this was considered a rare item…)
I sighed, feeling like I was losing track of what’s considered rare or common in this world.
In the back room, monster materials were being processed. It was spacious enough—about 20 tatami mats—so it should be fine to bring out the materials Luke had collected.
(But I’ll skip the dragon materials; they might be too much to handle.)
“Alright, here you go.”
When I took the materials out of the magic bag, everyone in the room, including the staff guiding me, stared in shock.
“What is this mountain of high-rank monster materials!?”
