Ch35 - S2 On the Way to the Neighboring Country
Chapter 1: On the Way to the Neighboring Country
As the sun began to set, it was time to move.
Gazing at the sky and mountains dyed orange, Taichi couldn’t help but exclaim, “Wow!”
“What’s up?”
“Oh, it’s just that the mountains look so beautiful.”
“Is that so?”
Hearing Taichi’s words, Luke tilted his head in confusion. For him, the view was nothing special, so he found it odd that Taichi was so impressed.
(It’s been such a short time since I came to this world.)
For Taichi, who had lived in a city full of buildings like Tokyo, this world’s vast natural beauty was incredibly refreshing and exciting.
…Well, he’d prefer to avoid combat if possible.
Taichi had sought daily solace in a cat café.
He worked late every day, toiling away for the company. His only joy was going to the cat café once a month when he could leave work on time.
Then… after rescuing a cat from being run over by a car, he discovered that the cat was a deity! Taichi had died in the accident, but the cat deity brought him back to life in this new world. The cat deity granted him a unique job derived from Tamer called “Beloved by Fluff,” along with a skill that had limitless levels.
Taichi’s companion, Luke the Fenrir.
Though he claims to be a solitary Fenrir, he is actually a tsundere who loves Taichi very much… well, maybe more like a tsundere in the extreme.
Incidentally, his second favorite thing after Taichi is bean cushions.
Taichi and Luke were on their way from the Kingdom of Shurukuk to the neighboring Kingdom of Azelun.
Why? Because the “Forest Cat,” a cat-like magical beast, lived there.
If Taichi could tame one, it would join his fluff café. Therefore, instead of the usual month-long journey by carriage, they were traveling overnight on Luke’s back.
“Come on, get on my back quickly! I want to reach the next town by morning.”
Luke said, implying that he knew Taichi would prefer to avoid camping out.
“Right, thanks, Luke.”
(He’s a bit gruff but really kind.)
Taichi suppressed a grin as he climbed onto Luke’s back. The soft fur felt so pleasant it almost made him melt.
(Ahh, fluff is the best…!)
Just thinking about how wonderful it would be with the addition of a Forest Cat made him shiver with anticipation.
Seeing Taichi settle on his back, Luke kicked off from the ground.
“Alright, let’s go.”
“Go easy on me—wow!”
Luke accelerated before Taichi could finish his sentence. Even though Luke was trying to be considerate and kept the speed in check, it was still fast from a human’s perspective.
“Too fast, way too fast, Luke!!”
“You’re so weak… honestly!”
Hearing Taichi’s shout, Luke slowed down.
“Wouldn’t you enjoy it more if I went faster?”
“There’s such a thing as moderation, you know… and since the scenery is so beautiful, don’t you think we could go a little slower?”
“…Hmph.”
Though grumbling, Luke looked at the scenery as Taichi suggested.
Well, he supposed it might be beautiful after all.
“Seriously! And when we take a break, make sure to prepare some good food!”
“I know, I know.”
After a few hours of running, they arrived at a hill for a meal break.
Looking up, Taichi saw a star-filled sky and lay down on the grass.
“Wow, what a spectacular view…”
“A starry sky isn’t that rare.”
“It’s not often you see something this amazing where I used to live.”
So, Taichi wanted to savor it, but Luke was already starving.
“Let’s get to the food quickly.”
Luke tugged on Taichi’s sleeve, urging him to hurry with the meal.
“Alright, alright, just a moment.”
Taichi patted Luke and reached into his magic bag hanging from his waist.
This bag, also a gift from the deity, could hold an infinite amount of items and had the added benefit of stopping time inside.
Inside were various things, including magical beasts Luke had defeated and seasonings purchased in town.
He used to have dragon meat, Luke’s favorite, but it was all gone. So, he took out some Seven-Colored Hohoro meat, which he had hunted along the way. Luke had told him that it was delicious and firm.
“Time to cook this meat with [Cooking]!”
A hologram plate appeared before Taichi.
“To cook, you need more ingredients. With ‘Seven-Colored Hohoro Meat,’ ‘Magic Grass,’ ‘Herbs,’ and ‘Magic Salt,’ you can make ‘Seven-Colored Hohoro Roast.’”
“Oh, that sounds delicious.”
“What, can’t you make it yet?”
“Just wait, I need the ingredients.”
Taichi took out the herbs and seasonings that had recently been gathered by his skill, then used the skill again.
“[Cooking]!”
Taichi’s Tamer skill, [Cooking], allowed him to make meals for magical beasts when the ingredients were prepared.
Using the skill, the ingredients were consumed, and the dish was made.
Slices of Seven-Colored Hohoro meat were arranged on a plate, shimmering with a beautiful luster.
Seeing the dish, Luke immediately exclaimed with joy.
“Oh, this looks delicious!”
Luke circled around Taichi, eager for the food. His excitement was so cute that Taichi couldn’t help but smile.
“I know, there’s plenty, so don’t hold back.”
“Of course!”
Taichi handed the Seven-Colored Hohoro Roast to Luke, who devoured it in no time.
(Wow, that was fast!!)
Taichi thought to himself, hurriedly preparing more of the roast.
“Mmm, this is definitely tasty! Usually, I’d just eat it as is, but Tamer’s skills are incredible.”
“I’m glad you like it.”
After making enough to satisfy Luke, Taichi also enjoyed the Seven-Colored Hohoro Roast.
Taking a bite, the exquisite meat quality was apparent. The tender and moist meat seemed to melt in his mouth, and it was no exaggeration to say so.
The magic salt used as one of the ingredients brought out the full flavor of the Seven-Colored Hohoro.
(I could eat this endlessly.)
They thoroughly enjoyed the meal before setting out again toward the neighboring country.
After continuing their journey, they arrived at the town of Chalm, located on the border with the neighboring country. Its size was about the same as the town of Relium, where Taichi ran his café.
Perhaps because it was a border town, there were more merchants compared to other towns.
“Wow, this town is bustling.”
“It doesn’t seem bad.”
Taichi and Luke walked around the town, searching for the Tamer Guild.
They often provided lodging, so they wanted to book a place for the night. Although inns in the town were also an option, many didn’t allow familiars.
(And Luke is quite large…)
Thinking this, Taichi gave a wry smile, causing Luke to react with a “What’s up?”
“Nothing, just admiring your magnificent fur.”
“Oh, you were complimenting me! That’s right, that’s right! I am a noble Fenrir, after all!!”
Flattered, Luke wagged his tail proudly, looking pleased.
In the distance, a little girl was saying “Woof woof!” but Luke seemed not to notice… Taichi sighed in relief.
(He’d definitely be upset if someone called him a dog…)
“Well then, let’s book a room at the Tamer Guild, do some shopping, and rest.”
“Yeah.”
Even though he had entrusted the fluff café to Himari, informing her he would return in about twenty-five days, Taichi didn’t plan to take too much time sightseeing.
It would take almost ten days for Luke to get to the neighboring country, so he had no plans to dawdle.
(Maybe once things settle down, I could look for fluff from around the world too.)
For now, Taichi wanted to focus on running his café in this world.
