Ch36 - Talking About Cats Made Him Sulk
Chapter 2: Talking About Cats Made Him Sulk
Taichi, having successfully secured accommodation at the Tamer Guild, immediately collapsed onto the bed upon arriving at his room.
Next to him was Luke’s favorite bean cushion, which he had placed into his magic bag.
“Ah, I’m so tired…”
Surprisingly, the Tamer Guild in this city was quite bustling. This was because long-distance merchant caravans were using large magical beasts to pull their carts.
As a result, this Tamer Guild was large, and the rooms were spacious.
Seeing Taichi sprawled out, Luke lay down on the bean cushion and snorted in disdain.
“Honestly, you’re so weak,” Luke said.
“Ahaha~”
Taichi thought about how Luke managed to carry him on his back while running around, considering that he could barely manage clinging to Luke’s back. Since coming to this world, he had inevitably walked more and had more opportunities for exercise, but he couldn’t imagine keeping up with Luke.
(Though, it would be nice to have a bit more stamina.)
If he did, he might be able to accompany Luke on more walks. As he drowsed off, Luke asked, “Is the Forest Cat that great?”
Of course, Forest Cats—cats—were Taichi’s solace during his corporate life.
“It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that I owe my life to cats… Even when I was utterly exhausted and felt like I might die, just thinking about petting a cat made me push through and keep going.”
“What kind of battlefield were you on?”
“The battlefield of corporate life, I guess…”
Taichi let out a dry laugh and closed his eyes. What came to mind was the cat café he used to frequent.
(Speaking of which, I wonder how everyone is doing…)
He would never forget how he became popular after giving out Nyarl snacks.
The cats at the café were always aloof, and they wouldn’t react much when he tried to play with a cat toy, often just walking past him. He would also never forget the sadness and frustration from those times.
The staff had eventually taught him how to handle the cat toy properly, and the cats had started to play a bit. But when it came to snacks, it was a whole different story.
When he held the Nyarl, the cats would come running to him in a flash. They would meow cutely and beg for Nyarl.
To encounter such cats in this world—what a sublime experience.
“Such a sloppy face,” Luke said.
“Whoops,” Taichi said as he was suddenly hit with a paw smack from Luke. Luke’s face looked like it said, “Stop talking about cats.”
“Sorry, sorry.”
—Despite that, Taichi’s mind was filled with how squishy Luke’s paws were!
(Sigh~~ Squishy paws feel so good…)
He almost wanted to ask if he could get another paw slap.
(But if I said that, Luke would probably get really angry.)
“What are you grinning about now?” Luke asked.
“No, it’s just that Luke is so cute,” Taichi replied.
“Cute!? How can a noble Fenrir like me be cute!”
Luke barked, saying not to compare him to a Berry Rabbit.
But to Taichi, Luke was cute enough and an important companion. The fluffiness was fantastic, and the tsundere behavior was irresistible.
“Cute is cute, whether it’s a Forest Cat or not. I can’t rank cuteness. To me, everyone is a cute companion!”
“….”
When Taichi said that, Luke fell silent.
“Luke?”
Taichi tilted his head in curiosity and peeked at Luke’s face. He noticed that the tips of Luke’s ears were slightly red.
(Oh, that’s so cute!?)
While it’s common for human ears to turn red when embarrassed, he didn’t expect the same for a Fenrir.
The only thing that could be said was that it was undeniably cute.
“Hmph! We’re leaving tomorrow night, right? You’re weak, so get some sleep until then!” Luke ordered.
“No way, that would be sleeping too much.”
“Shut up and go to sleep! I’m going to sleep too!”
“Eh?”
As soon as Luke said that, he buried his face into the bean cushion and fell asleep. It seemed like his own way of hiding his embarrassment.
(A rare instance of him being soft…?)
Or maybe, he was jealous because Taichi kept talking about Forest Cats.
Taichi reached out from the bed to stroke Luke, who was on the bean cushion.
“Good night, Luke. Let’s have some good food when we wake up.”
Luke didn’t respond, but his tail twitched slightly.
Seeing that, Taichi smiled and snuggled back into the bed, closing his eyes.
“Oh, there are so many different ingredients,” Taichi said.
“Is there no dragon meat?” Luke asked.
“That’s a bit too much to ask for…”
After a good rest, Taichi and Luke ventured into the city at night.
They arrived at a square lined with many food stalls. The city was bustling with both locals and travelers, making it very lively.
Since arriving in this world, there were still many things Taichi hadn’t seen.
Taichi’s attention was caught by a stall selling “Wild Mino Tail Soup.”
(It’s named after a magical beast, but… it smells good.)
Tail soup typically suggests a rich, simmered broth. It’s delicious and especially comforting for a tired body.
Noticing that, Luke was also sniffing the air.
“Want to try it?”
“Yeah, we need strength when we’re hungry!”
So, they bought a cup of Wild Mino Tail Soup.
“Ah, it smells amazing,” Taichi said.
“This looks delicious,” Luke agreed.
Both of them swallowed their saliva and took a sip.
As soon as Taichi tasted the soup, he felt like he was punched with a powerful broth from the Wild Mino.
When he ate the simmered meat, it fell apart on his tongue. The concentrated, rich flavor surged through his body.
“Ah~~ Delicious.”
“Mm.”
Their tired bodies from the journey were revitalized.
Luke used his tongue to eat the meat and skillfully drank the soup. He didn’t seem to mind the heat much.
(He eats so well…)
“What’s up?” Luke asked.
“No, just thinking I want more,” Taichi replied.
“Yeah… next time, let’s get a bigger piece of meat.”
It was fantastic to be able to enjoy delicious food on the way to see the Forest Cats.
There were still many stalls to explore, so Taichi and Luke enjoyed choosing what to eat next.
