Ch10 - Guild Card
10: Guild Card
With his funds in order, Taichi returned to the Tamer Guild for the time being. Extending his visit to the Commercial Guild would be too exhausting.
In fact, if he had continued on to the Commercial Guild, it would have been no different from his past life of working long hours.
As soon as Taichi entered the Tamer Guild, Shalti hurried over.
“Welcome back, Taichi-san!”
“I’m back.”
Noticing Shalti’s somewhat flustered demeanor, Taichi tilted his head as she handed him a card.
It showed Taichi’s name and that he was affiliated with the Tamer Guild, and it also indicated “Rank F.”
(Ah, so this is the guild card?)
“I’m sorry, I completely forgot to give this to you… May I explain how it works?”
“Oh, right. You guided me straight to my room earlier.”
Taichi chuckled, realizing he had overlooked receiving his identification card.
He went with Shalti to the counter, where she began explaining the Tamer Guild’s procedures.
“This is the ‘Tamer Card,’ which proves your affiliation with the Tamer Guild. It serves as identification for entering and exiting the city and for use with other guilds. Be careful not to lose it, as there will be a fee for reissue.”
She explained that people registered with guilds, starting from the Adventurers Guild, are ranked from S to F. This rank serves as a measure of their ability and guides which requests they can accept.
Taichi can accept requests up to one rank higher than his own, so he can take on requests of ranks E and F.
As Taichi was impressed by this, Shalti pointed to the Tamer Card and said, “But there is one very important explanation.”
“All guild cards, not just the Tamer Card, share this feature… Please channel some magic into it.”
(Huh, how do I do that?)
Taichi was momentarily stunned. Since he could use skills, magic-like energy must exist in this world. However, he didn’t know how to use it.
(Skills are as simple as just saying the skill name…)
Thinking about it, he realized how convenient that system was.
Trying to imagine using a skill, the Tamer Card emitted a faint glow.
“…! This means—”
Seeing no change on the surface, he flipped the card over and found all his information written on it. This included not just the information submitted to the guild, but details about his skills and familiars.
Realizing this could be problematic if known, Taichi was about to worry when Shalti said, “Please don’t show this to anyone.”
“By channeling magic into the guild card, official information will appear. By channeling magic again, it will disappear.”
Following Shalti’s instructions, Taichi channeled magic and his cheat skills vanished from the card.
(That’s a relief…)
“But why does it have such a function?”
“Generally, there’s no need to disclose this information, but there are exceptions. For requests from clients and in cases of criminal activity, for example. In the case of requests, it’s used to gain trust because verbal claims can be dubious.”
“Ah, I see…”
In a world where monsters appear and death is ever-present, being able to present one’s profession and skills honestly might be valuable for earning trust.
Unless absolutely necessary, Taichi probably won’t need to show it to anyone in the future.
“The guild won’t force you to disclose anything, so you can be assured of that. Also, the request board is over there.”
On the right-hand side wall from the entrance, there was a board with papers listing requests. Most were for monster hunting, but at rank F, there were also requests like helping with livestock care.
(Do they think Tamers are just animal caretakers or something…?)
Well, Taichi couldn’t say much, considering he was planning to run a fluffy cafe.
“Thank you for the explanation. Since I’m not up for battles, I’ll focus on opening a relaxed cafe.”
“I figured you’d say that. Do you have a location in mind?”
Shalti nodded in agreement when Taichi honestly mentioned he wouldn’t be taking on requests.
“I just sold some materials at the Adventurers Guild and gathered enough funds. Tomorrow, I plan to visit the Commercial Guild to view properties.”
“I see. The Tamer Guild also has a few properties. Would you like to see them?”
“Really? I didn’t expect that.”
Taichi was slightly surprised that the Tamer Guild dealt in real estate.
“Well, we do have large familiars, so we own a few properties. However, most of them have conditions like being able to accommodate familiars, so they are usually located closer to the city walls or in the outskirts.”
“Interesting…”
Since his Fenrir, Luke, is large and he plans to increase his familiars for the fluffy cafe, properties on the outskirts might actually be more suitable than those in the city center.
(In fact, managing a cafe in the suburbs with a relaxed pace would be better than being busy in the city center.)
The Commercial Guild properties might have restrictions against pets—or rather, familiars.
“Could I take a look at the Tamer Guild’s properties?”
