Chapter 225: Chapter 223: Capturing Supergirl
Finally, Kara gave up on her unrealistic idea. The knowledge that Argo City still survived and that she could see her mother again was the greatest gift she could ask for. Alura had explained everything to her, and Kara knew that keeping Argo City in Su Sheng's care was the safest option for its people.
"They're living well here. You can visit them anytime or even stay for a while if you want," Su Sheng reassured her.
Kara nodded enthusiastically. "I think I'll stay for a while—with my mother and old friends. But there's still so much danger out there."
"You've got Martian Manhunter and Alex looking after things," Su Sheng pointed out before pausing. "If you agree to one request, I'll even take over your duties at the DEO for a few days."
"Really? What do you want?" Kara asked, curiosity piqued.
Su Sheng leaned in and whispered something in her ear with a mischievous grin. Kara blushed, glancing at the photos on the wall. "So, those are all...?"
"Yes," Su Sheng admitted with a chuckle. "But most of them are pillows. Just a habit of mine."
Kara didn't know what to say. Discovering her boyfriend's obsession with other women wasn't easy for her to swallow. Anger simmered, but she held back from exploding. She had genuine feelings for Su Sheng, and his complex identity as an ancient god made it harder to reject him outright. Her mother had told her more about Su Sheng's past, and it only added to his mystique.
If Su Sheng had hidden his true identity, Kara would have been furious. But since he was upfront, she reluctantly tolerated his eccentricities. After some coaxing, she agreed to take a photo for him, though the awkwardness lingered.
"Out of all these photos, who do you like best?" Kara asked, looking at the wall.
"I love them all," Su Sheng said. "They're all my 'pillows,' after all. But if I had to choose three, it'd be you, Diana, and Felicity."
"Why those three?" Kara asked, though she could guess the reason.
"You're the only one I actively pursued," Su Sheng explained. "Felicity was my first woman and girlfriend, and Diana—well, she's a goddess. Literally. She's the God of War now, and my experiences with her were... complicated. I think you'd get along well if you met."
Kara was quiet for a moment before speaking. "Send me to Argo City."
Without another word, Su Sheng shrunk Kara down and sent her back to Argo City. While Su Sheng did care about Kara, he wasn't willing to change for her—or for anyone. He hoped she could accept him as he was.
After leaving the Disciple, Su Sheng reduced its size and flew it to the DEO. Though the crisis with Superman had passed, there were still many loose ends to tie up, and Su Sheng had a few individuals in mind that intrigued him.
At the DEO, Su Sheng informed the team that Kara would be staying in Argo City for a while. They were surprised to hear about Argo City's survival but agreed that Kara deserved some time to rest and reconnect with her family.
Su Sheng offered his assistance, saying they could call him if they needed help. The DEO staff were thrilled; though Supergirl was their ace, Su Sheng's abilities far surpassed hers.
The DEO was busier than ever. Martian Manhunter focused on capturing fugitives, Alex assisted in rebuilding the department, and Lucy Lane coordinated everything as the director. Su Sheng, with little to do, decided to visit Superman and Norn in their cells.
Watching the two of them rage in their confinement amused Su Sheng. Their desire to kill him, mixed with their helplessness, only heightened his enjoyment.
"Don't get too cocky!" Superman shouted at Su Sheng, who was smirking at him from outside the cell. "You think you've won, but you'll soon see how wrong you are!"
Su Sheng raised an eyebrow. "You sound less like a caged animal and more like someone with a plan. I like that. It means the fun isn't over. But seriously, you're getting a bit extreme, don't you think? After all, I am an ancient god from Krypton."
"Do you think I'll believe your nonsense?" Superman sneered.
"No, I don't expect you to believe me," Su Sheng said with a grin. "But have you ever thought about asking me to save Lois?"
Superman froze, his eyes wide with shock.
A few moments passed before he slammed his fists against the cell's wall. "What did you say? You can save Lois?"
Su Sheng's smile widened. "I'm a god, after all."
"Please," Superman begged, his voice desperate. "Please save Lois! I'll do anything if you can bring her back!"
Su Sheng chuckled. "Oh, I can do it. I just don't want to." With a bright smile, he turned and left the room, ignoring Superman's furious shouts.
As he exited, he saw Lucy Lane waiting for him. "Can you really save Lois?" she asked, clearly having overheard the conversation.
Su Sheng gave her a sly smile. "I can do far more than that."
He walked past her, leaving Lucy to chase after him. Before she could catch up, her earpiece buzzed with an urgent message. Lucy stopped, turning to shout at Su Sheng, "We've got trouble!"
In the command room, a distress call from Dr. Jones, a climate change researcher at the Sola Arctic Research Station, was playing on the screen.
Martian Manhunter had gone to investigate but had been attacked by an alien parasite, which had drained much of his energy. Now, a large, monstrous figure appeared on the screen, resembling Doomsday in its grotesque size and appearance.
"How is Martian Manhunter?" Lucy asked.
"He's stable for now, but if the parasite continues to absorb his energy, he could die. Should we call Supergirl back?" one of the agents asked, glancing nervously at Su Sheng.
Su Sheng smirked. "If you want me to handle it, just say so."
Lucy nodded solemnly. "We need your help."
With a casual shrug, Su Sheng replied, "No problem. That parasite is on my list anyway."
"You know what it is?"
"Yeah, it's the Parasite Demon."
