Chapter 5: It was Perfect
Noya waved goodbye to Izuku after getting back to his house. He hopped that Izuku would change his mind about going to UA, but Noya knew that Izuku wouldn't listen.
Walking to his motorcycle Noya realized something, he had finished an investigation, he may have gotten his wallet stolen but he didn't get much of his money stolen, so that means it's been a great day. And it's time for Noya to get himself a reward for this day.
And with the extra money he got from the last case he doesn't need to skip tomorrow's breakfast to buy his reward.
And there's only a single reward that Noya wants, a watermelon.
There was a store not too far to where Noya had parked his bike, and he had some money that was in his pant pocket that he saves incase his wallet gets stolen, so he doesn't need to go back to his house.
With a plan in motion Noya got onto his motorcycle and drove his way down to the market.
It was an easy drive; most people had already come home from work and only a few people were out buying groceries meaning the roads were clear for Noya accelerate. Which led him to get the market faster than he expected.
Parking his motorcycle in the closest parking spot he could find Noya entered the market and went over to where he knew the watermelons were, but he first checked out the clearance section to see if there were any good deals.
And then he saw it.
A watermelon, in the clearance section, and it was huge. Noya had to get it.
But first the knock test, he clenched his and knocked on the watermelon.
Two hollow knocks resonated from the watermelon, it truly was perfect.
Wait, Noya had only knocked on it once. Why had two knocks come out of it?
With a quick glance Noya saw that there was someone next to him, someone that was also checking the watermelon.
"Hello, my name's Noya," he said trying to distract the girl as he wrapped his hand around the watermelon.
"Nice to meet you," the girl next to him said, "My name's Uraraka," she said moving her hand to the side of the watermelon putting her entire palm on it.
With one clear motion Noya tried to take the watermelon, and Uraraka tried to take it as well.
And suddenly, the watermelon popped out of both of their hands causing it to fly into the air. Then oddly it kept floating in the air, as if it was weightless.
Both of them staired at the watermelon as floated in the air.
'A quirk that reduces an objects weight?' Noya pondered as he staired at the watermelon, 'No, it's something else, but there's no time for thinking. I need to act before she takes advantage of the situation,' he thought.
"I'm sorry I'll," Uraraka tried to say.
Yet before her sentence could fully exit her mouth, Noya had climbed on top the clearance shelf and jumped up to grab the watermelon.
As he grabbed the watermelon Noya noticed that he couldn't feel it's weight. When he landed on the ground Uraraka reached to grab the watermelon out of Noya's hand.
With the knowledge that her quirk was most likely activated on touch, Noya ducked under her arm went around her.
Unfortunately, the watermelon slipped out of his hand as he did that, and it started to fly forward.
Noya started to run towards the watermelon, knowing it was moving to the register, if he could grab it, he could immediately pay and leave.
Checking behind him Noya saw that she was preparing for something, she was touching her clothes, reducing their weight as she did.
He knew that whatever she was doing would probably help her get the watermelon, so Noya picked up the pace.
Then, he heard a clap. And after a seconds Noya looked behind himself to see Uraraka flying towards him with her arms out after using her quirk on herself.
It was then when Noya realized that her quirk was not weight reduction, but some kind of weight negation. If she only had a weight reduction quirk, she would be slowly falling towards the ground, but she wasn't, she was flying straight at him.
Even if there was time for Noya to dodge, all dodging would do is give Uraraka a straight shot for the watermelon, so Noya kept running, hoping that he would make it in time.
But Noya was not fast enough. Within a few seconds Uraraka had caught up to him, grabbed Noya by the shoulder and pushed him back. Causing her to fly faster towards the watermelon and Noya to be weightless and fly back to the clearance aisle.
Noya tried to get used to now reduced weight and go back to running, but as soon as he got a handle on it, his weight returned to him.
With a thump he was placed back onto the ground. He then looked up and saw Uraraka holding the watermelon and running toward the exit.
She had canceled her quirk to grab the watermelon, which returned Noya and her back to normal as well.
Getting up Noya knew that the battle was lost. He considered himself fast, not as fast as Izuku but still pretty faster than most.
However, the distance between the two was too great to cross before Uraraka got to the register.
Grumbling, Noya dusted himself off and started to walk to where the normal watermelons are kept. He would have preferred to get the watermelon on clearance to be way under budget, but Noya had to work with what he had.
Plus, the watermelon was totally bad. It had to be, that's why it was in the clearance section. He had no other proof and the fact that when he knocked on the watermelon it was hollow disproved this fact, but Noya still believed it.
Uraraka was totally not happy about getting the watermelon for cheap and was absolutely not going to share the watermelon with her family, with it being the best watermelon she's ever had.
That would just be silly.
————————————————————————
A click echoed in Noya's house after a long day.
He did end up getting a watermelon. Not nearly as large or as cheap as the other one, but he still got one.
And so Noya grabbed a knife and cut it up. When he was done, he had the two halves of the shell acting as bowls for the watermelon.
It was cut up for multiple people, because that was the only way that Noya knew had to do it. It was cut the same way his dad did it after he did something exceptional at school.
Before he was placed in the trash.
Before he was forced to be a detective.
Before he had to fight for his life.
Every time he took a bite; he was back home. For just a moment he could see them again. As he chewed, he could see their smiles.
And he swallowed, it was all gone again. Within moments he had eaten half of the watermelon.
Noya had to force himself to stop eating, he had overfed himself before and he didn't want to do that again.
With a heavy heart he put the rest of the watermelon inside of his fridge. Promising himself he would have the rest of it for breakfast tomorrow.
