Chapter 6: Paying Rent
After a breakfast of watermelon and reminiscing, in that order, Noya knew that he had to go to his landlord to pay his rent.
Better now than latter, when it came to collecting rent George always got their due.
Luckly the building where George was kept was within walking distance, so Noya didn't have to spend any gas.
He didn't even have to be careful of any villains robbing him. The city's layout was filled with twist and turns, and the only straight ways are only known by the locals.
This makes sure that the only villains in the city are from the city. Which still means there's a lot of them about seventy percent of the city's inhabitants are villains.
And everyone who lives in the city knows the way that people take to George's building, mostly because everyone knew where George's building is.
Almost every building in the entire city is one story tall. Basements are too expensive, and if you do build a two-story house the top part gets blown off by whatever villain feels like it.
There're a few two-story houses though, all of them villain bases. He would say one of them might be an undercover hero base, but they stopped doing that when George complained to the heroes. Never goes well for the heroes.
While most buildings were one story, and a few two-story, the building that George was kept in was five stories tall. It could be seen from any part of the city.
And no one messed with someone heading to George, less they want it to look like they were messing with George.
Approaching the door to George's building, Noya opened the only door, and began to climb the stairs.
The stairs were right in front of him when he opened the door, and there were no other ways to go. It was an enclosed spiral staircase all the way to the top.
The staircase wasn't that wide, but due to Noya being young he had plenty of room to sway back and forth. However, other people, especially those with mutant quirks, weren't so lucky. This led to a job of runners, people who run money up to George.
Concrete surrounded Noya both sides, but eventually he reached the top.
In front of him was a singe ornate desk. Around him were windows, from the windows you could almost see all of Shiwa Mitsu. It was the only place that you could see the city like this.
Beside the desk were large metal shelfs, filled with information about the city. What kind of information? Noya didn't know.
Behind the desk were two slender flesh tentacles, both were writing on paper with a fancy pen.
And behind the tentacles was a single large eye that seemed to be embedded into the wall. It was previously looking down at the desk, but as soon as Noya walked into the room the eye switched to looking at him.
Suddenly, one of the tentacles put down the pen and reached towards Noya. Noya then grabbed his money out of his coat pocket and gave it to the tentacle.
The tentacle grabbed it and brought it up to the eye. A third flesh tentacle came from the floor and counted the money. After a moment the third tentacle took the money and put it into a drawer in the desk.
The entire room that Noyan was in hummed in acceptance. And Noya, not wanting to stick around with a giant eye any longer, turned around and went back down the stairs.
While walking down the stairs Noya dreamed of a world which he had a quirk that let him fly. He wouldn't need to walk down all the stairs; he could just jump off the window and fly home.
Of course, the only way that something like that could happen was a late quirk awaking. Something that Noya wanted but knew that the odds were insane.
And as he walked down the stairs dreaming, he put his hand on the concrete to balance himself. He then looked over to the concrete and thought about how right behind the concrete was George.
Except for the top room and the staircase, the entire building was filled with George.
George had the quirk to absorb flesh. And with the number of things that happen in the city, George had grown very large.
Some say that George was one of the first quirk users. Others say that George could do their thing even before quirks.
Frankly, Noya was curious but the last person to try and force answers out of George became part of them. And Noya wasn't stupid enough to try and get answers where death may follow.
Unless he was paid to do so, then that changes everything.

Arriving back at home Noya could feel his lack of money, but he was happy that rent was paid.
Sitting down at his desk Noya pulled out a math book from the desk.
He hadn't had the time to go to school, so he's been trying to study on his own. While going to school would have undoubtedly taught him more about mathematics, Noya was proud with what he has learned on his own.
Sure, Noya might not be able to get into about any high school due to his understanding of math being around two grades bellow what it should be, but it's better than it would have been if he didn't study.
And with the rent paid, Noya thought it might be a good idea to get some studding in. He probably won't go to any school and just continue to do what he was doing for the rest his life, but it doesn't hurt to be prepared.
So, Noya opened up the book to where he last left it and grabbed some paper to write down the equations.
Then, his phone rang.
With a sigh, Noya closed the math book and answered his phone.
"Hello this is Noya's detective services, how can I help you?" he said into the phone.
"My friends' dead body is outside my apartment building," a woman said in a hurried tone, "Please I don't want to die," she begged through the phone.
"Ma'am if there is a murderer coming for you now, please call the police so they can dispatch a hero to your location," Noya told the woman.
'No, I don't know who it did, but please hurry!" she said, "I'm terrified to leave my room, I don't want to die!" she repeated.
"Just tell me the location and I'll be there as fast as I can," Noya said.
