You Were Made to Be Cannon Fodder, but Ended Up a Winner in Life?

Chapter 5:

Chapter 5: Humble Love 5:

Half an hour later.

-Yue Lai Restaurant.

At a window-side table, Chen Nuo and his parents were seated.

Yue Lai Restaurant was a high-end establishment in the provincial capital, known for its exquisite dishes and excellent service.

The tables were spaced far apart, and privacy screens separated them, ensuring a high degree of privacy.

“Son, tell Mom—why did you suddenly decide to break up with that woman?”

After placing their order and dismissing the waiter, Chen’s mother eagerly turned to Chen Nuo.

Sitting beside her, Chen Zhongguo remained silent, but his gaze was also focused on his son, curiosity evident in his eyes.

They had advised Chen Nuo many times before that Zhang Ya wasn’t a good match, but he had always dismissed their concerns, even getting upset if they pushed too much.

Now, however, he was adamantly breaking up with her, and they couldn’t help but wonder why.

“It’s nothing special—I just finally saw the truth about Zhang Ya and realized who she really is.”

“Over these years of dating, I covered all our expenses—her tuition, her living expenses, even money sent to her family—but received no respect or reciprocation in return…”

Chen Nuo began, sharing details his parents hadn’t known, things the previous Chen Nuo had never mentioned.

By the time he finished, anger was etched into both Chen Zhongguo and his mother’s faces.

“How dare she treat my son like this!”

Chen’s mother was furious. She had suspected Zhang Ya had ulterior motives but never realized her son had been so humiliated and belittled.

Not only did he spend money, but he also cooked and cleaned for Zhang Ya—even washing her underwear.

This was her beloved son, the one she had cherished and protected since birth.

Yet he had been treated this way by that woman.

Tears welled up in her eyes as she trembled with rage.

Beside her, Chen Zhongguo’s expression was dark, and his grip on his water glass was tight.

A father’s love was less outwardly expressed but no less intense.

His anger matched his wife’s.

“Mom, Dad, I’m sorry for disappointing you and causing you worry in the past.”

Chen Nuo stood up and bowed deeply to his parents.

“Oh, son, what are you doing? You haven’t disappointed me.”

Tears welled up even more as Chen’s mother rushed over to help him up.

“You have always been the best and most outstanding son in my heart. How could I ever be disappointed?”

“Breaking up is the right choice. That kind of woman is not good enough for my son. I’ll find you someone a thousand times better.”

Chen’s mother held Chen Nuo’s arm tightly, her eyes red with emotion.

How could she ever be disappointed in her son? He had always been filial and considerate, just too sheltered and introverted, falling for a manipulative woman like Zhang Ya.

“Xiao Nuo, your mother and I have never been disappointed in you. I may have been strict, but you’ve always made me proud.”

Chen Zhongguo’s eyes were red too, though he kept his emotions in check and waved it off.

“Let’s not dwell on this anymore. What matters is that you’ve seen her true colors. There are plenty of good women in this world.”

“I understand, Dad, Mom.”

Chen Nuo nodded and sat back down.

“No, this anger must be vented. Husband, you helped arrange her job, right? Call your friend now and make sure she’s fired!”

Chen’s mother wiped her tears, turned around, and spoke with gritted teeth.

She hadn’t known that Zhang Ya had treated her son like a slave.

She wanted revenge.

“I’ll do it now.”

Chen Zhongguo agreed instantly and reached for his phone.

“Wait, Mom, Dad.”

Chen Nuo interrupted them.

“Son, you…”

Chen’s mother looked over, worried.

Was her son softening?

“Mom, don’t worry. I’m definitely breaking up with her for good.”

Seeing her concerned expression, Chen Nuo reassured her.

“Then why stop your dad from making the call?”

Chen’s mother was still on edge.

“I don’t want her to get off so easily by being fired immediately.”

Chen Nuo explained and then continued.

“My suggestion is that Dad contacts his friend to stop any preferential treatment for Zhang Ya. Since she’s currently an intern, reduce her salary by half, make her do all the dirty and exhausting work, and fire her after her internship ends. By then, she won’t have the advantage of being a fresh graduate and won’t find another good job.”

Chen Nuo outlined his plan, which he had already thought through.

Zhang Ya’s university grades were poor, and her professional skills were consistently at the bottom.

If it hadn’t been for the previous Chen Nuo pleading with his parents, she wouldn’t have even graduated.

In the past, Zhang Ya had quickly risen to a managerial position thanks to the influence of Chen Zhongguo’s friend, who was the company’s chairman.

Without this backing, she wouldn’t have succeeded.

“I want to see how far she falls without our support.”

Simply firing her wasn’t enough. He wanted her to struggle through menial tasks, receive a reduced salary that barely covered rent in the city, and face the challenge of surviving on her own.

This was step two after kicking her out of the house.

“Son’s plan makes sense—firing her right away would be too lenient.”

Chen’s mother’s eyes lit up but remained unsatisfied.

“Son, do you remember all the money you spent on her during university?”

She turned to Chen Nuo and asked.
