Chapter 50 - Could This Person Be Your Ex-Girlfriend? II
Bai Xi looked at Han Zhuo, feeling an ominous premonition.
When it came to reporting worries or good news, his sixth sense was always as accurate as radar. Though it did sound a bit dramatic, considering the identities of Zhou family, the tracking incident at the train station, and Mrs. Zhou’s failure to maintain her calm over the phone just now, his first reaction was to call Zhou Jing.
Han Zhuo did not stop him.
A sweet voice prompt came from the receiver, “The phone you dialled has been turned off.”
“It’s over.” Bai Xi was genuinely panicked this time. “Is it the underground warehouse? Or is it Wu Zigang?”
“It’s unlikely to be Wu Zigang. We’ve been actively contacting Zhou Yong recently. Before the results come out, there’s no need for him to take risks and do something like this,” Han Zhuo said. “It’s very possible that the underground warehouse is using Mrs. Zhou and Zhou Jing to threaten Zhou Yong. It’s Shi Tian’s consistent style.”
“Then what should we do now?” Bai Xi asked again.
“If it’s the underground warehouse, then Zhou Jing won’t be in personal danger, at least for the time being.” Han Zhuo patted him on the shoulder and called Wang Yuanchen, roughly informing him of the situation and reminding him to keep a close watch on Liu Chunchun.
“Whose phone number, is it?” Liu Chunchun just came out with two glasses of milk.
Wang Yuanchen asked casually, “Was Zhou Jing your college classmate?”
Hearing the name suddenly, Liu Chunchun’s wrist went limp, and he nearly spilled milk on Mr. Wang’s beloved leather sofa. He felt surprised, embarrassed, and a little offended, which was rare for him to express directly. “Without my permission, why did you ask Brother Bai about my college days?”
Wang Yuanchen looked a little confused but was keenly aware that there might be more to the story. Instead of denying it, he raised his eyebrows slightly and responded vaguely, “Oh?”
“Zhou Jing already has a boyfriend, and I don’t like people joking about it. Please don’t bring it up again in the future.” Liu Chunchun’s tone was serious.
This time, it was Mr. Wang’s turn to look stern. “Why, was she actually your ex-girlfriend?”
Liu Chunchun was so shocked by the word “ex-girlfriend” that he felt numb. Before he could explain, Wang Yuanchen grabbed his shoulders, lifted him into the air as if pulling a carrot from the mud, and carried him straight toward the guest room, setting him near the balcony window.
“Speak,” he ordered curtly.
Seeing the resentful and angry look in Wang Yuanchen’s eyes, Liu Chunchun felt that if he didn’t cooperate, he might be thrown out the window in the next second or, at the very least, hung on like a clothes pole. Reasoning with a grumpy alien didn’t seem like it had high chances of success, so Liu Chunchun reluctantly abandoned his dignity and confessed everything that had happened during his university days.
“Never had a relationship?” Wang Yuanchen’s tone softened slightly. “What was the reason?”
“There’s no reason, I just don’t like her,” Liu Chunchun sniffed. “Because of this, I’ve always felt sorry for Zhou Jing. By the way, you still haven’t explained why you suddenly brought this up.”
“Because she was kidnapped,” Wang Yuanchen answered lightly.
Liu Chunchun was almost stunned speechless. “What?”
“There are only suspects right now; we’re not sure who did it.” Wang Yuanchen placed him back on the sofa. “That’s why Han Zhuo called me just now, asking me to keep an eye on your safety.”
“Have you called the police?” Liu Chunchun asked nervously.
Wang Yuanchen replied, “Is it useful to call the police?”
“Of course, it’s useful. Protecting the people is… wait,” Liu Chunchun suddenly realized something was off. “Someone tried to kidnap Zhou Jing? How did you know?”
Wang Yuanchen raised his eyebrows slightly.
Liu Chunchun was stunned. “Is she also an alien?”
Wang Yuanchen reached out and patted the side of his face in approval.
Liu Chunchun felt his worldview collapsing again. He even began to wonder if Earth had long been taken over by aliens and humans were just a small minority—otherwise, why did everyone around him seem to be Ultraman?
“What are you thinking about now?” Wang Yuanchen interrupted his chaotic thoughts.
“Is something really going to happen to Zhou Jing?” Liu Chunchun asked. “Is there anything I can do?”
“You can’t do anything,” Wang Yuanchen said, taking out a bottle of wine from the cabinet with a dismissive attitude. “Just stay by my side.”
Liu Chunchun nodded reluctantly, still feeling anxious.
.
Bai Xi held his cell phone and waited for a full hour, but he didn’t receive a call from Zhou Yong.
“He’s a government official, and the underground warehouse is a partner of the government,” Han Zhuo said, covering his eyes from behind. “Even if Zhou Yong wanted to contact us, do you think he still has a mobile phone that isn’t monitored?”
“Are we just going to be this passive?” Bai Xi asked. “I really blame myself. Is it because we contacted Uncle Zhou that the underground warehouse targeted Zhou Jing?”
“Do you want the truth?” Han Zhuo nodded. “It’s possible.”
Bai Xi clenched his fists unconsciously.
The phone on the coffee table rang again without warning.
“Who is it?” Han Zhuo frowned slightly.
Bai Xi picked it up and took just one glance before thrusting the phone into Mr. Han’s hand as if it were on fire. His headache grew as severe as watching “The Hawthorn of Love” five times in a row.
“Mark Li?” Han Zhuo felt like he was seeing a ghost. “Why does he have your phone number?”
