You Are Deep in The Stars

Chapter 50 - Could This Person Be Your Ex-Girlfriend? I

The train slowly stopped at the station, and Mrs. Zhou was still packing her luggage. Zhou Yong had already rushed into the carriage, moving quickly. When he saw his wife safe and sound, he finally breathed a deep sigh of relief.

Mrs. Zhou was surprised. “Hey, why are you here?”

“I just had something to do with the conductor.” There were many stewards in the carriage, and Zhou Yong didn’t elaborate. He picked up the luggage bag with one hand and helped his wife with the other. “Let’s go home first.”

The atmosphere seemed loving and harmonious. After the two got off the train, even the attendants whispered among themselves, envious that Mrs. Zhou was married to a good man. At the same time, they were a bit worried—they had only received instructions from their superiors after the train had started, requesting that Mrs. Zhou be taken to the VIP carriage for intensive protection. It sounded like there was a big trouble.

People coming out of each carriage gathered and slowly moved toward the exit of the station like quicksand. Zhou Yong opened his arms and held his wife close, protecting her tightly. He remained vigilant all the way and did not let down his guard until they were back in the car.

“Did something happen?” Mrs. Zhou asked quietly, her unease growing.

“We’ll talk about it when we get home,” Zhou Yong said with a smile. “Close your eyes and rest for a while.”

Mrs. Zhou nodded, but her hands unconsciously tightened on her sleeves.

The atmosphere in the car was very quiet, almost depressingly so. Mrs. Zhou’s unease intensified. The colour had drained from her face, leaving only a pale, paper-like complexion. Even when she followed her husband back to their warm home, her body continued to shake involuntarily, and she nearly fell when she bent down to change into her slippers.

Zhou Yong held her tightly in his arms, his strong arms like iron hoops.

In the long silence, Mrs. Zhou felt the biting cold and began to realize something, even if it was something she didn’t want to admit. In fact, she had anticipated this day since the first appearance of the superpower, though she hadn’t expected it to come so soon.

“It’s okay,” Zhou Yong’s voice was hoarse. “Don’t be afraid.”

“What do you know?” Mrs. Zhou asked, her teeth chattering unconsciously.

Zhou Yong hesitated for a moment before answering, “Everything.”

Mrs. Zhou’s legs gave way, and she collapsed onto the sofa.

After a long time, she covered her face with her hands and began to cry.

The wind roared outside the window, pounding against the panes and making a heart-stopping noise. It whipped up white snow and yellow dust, scattering it all over the sky.

Han Zhuo wrapped Bai Xi tightly in his coat and took a few steps back to his residence.

“Ahem!” Bai Xi was choked by the smoke in the corridor and coughed. He rubbed his red nose. “Will I catch a cold tomorrow?”

“After standing next to the fried stall for more than half an hour and eating a lot of unhygienic junk food, even if you don’t catch a cold, the chance of your throat getting infected is higher than 50%,” Han Zhuo replied.

Bai Xi took out a tissue and wiped his nose. “Do you know what the standard answer to this kind of question is to someone you love?”

“Huh?” Han Zhuo thought for a moment and said sincerely, “I don’t know.”

“Never mind, it’s not a well-founded scientific analysis,” Bai Xi said, laying on the sofa. “Otherwise, the probability of someone falling out of love is higher than 50%.”

Han Zhuo was amused and helped him prepare warm water and cold medicine, squeezed out a cup of pear juice to clear the heat, and brought them to the living room together. Bai Xi was searching everywhere for his mobile phone.

“It’s almost eleven o’clock,” Han Zhuo reminded him. “Who are you trying to call?”

“I sent a text message to Mrs. Zhou earlier, but she hasn’t replied,” Bai Xi said. “The train should have arrived long ago. I’m a little worried.”

“No need to panic.” Han Zhuo took the phone away from his hand. “She’s fine.”

“How do you know?” Bai Xi asked, looking a little confused.

Han Zhuo sat next to him. “On the way to the train station, a car was following us.”

Bai Xi was surprised when he heard this. “Are you sure?”

Han Zhuo nodded. At first, he thought it was just his imagination, so he deliberately took a detour. As a result, although the black car didn’t follow him anymore, a red car took over and continued to tail them. It was obvious that the pursuer was a veteran and well-prepared.

“Then I sent a text message to Mr. Zhou.” Han Zhuo took out an old-fashioned candy bar phone from his pocket. “Using new number to remind him that Mrs. Zhou had boarded the train.”

“Is that all?” Bai Xi asked.

“He can understand what that message means,” Han Zhuo explained. “Even if he doesn’t, any man who dotes on his wife wouldn’t just read it and let it go. He’s a government official, and protecting his wife on the train is much easier for him than it is for us.”

Just as he finished speaking, Bai Xi received a call from Mrs. Zhou. Her voice sounded a little tired but was as calm as ever.

“I’m already home,” she said apologetically. “I’m really sorry; I just saw your text message.”

“It’s okay,” Bai Xi sighed in relief. “Get some rest.”

“Goodbye,” Mrs. Zhou said hastily, and then she pressed the hang-up button, collapsing emotionally once the call ended.
