Wrath of the Re-climber

Chapter 17: 16. Derek Forge (1)

"what batch are you?" Asked the newcomer, she tried to put a considerable distance between Ethan and her, but her attention was always shifted towards the kid.

"..." Ethan did not answer, but instead examined her.

{Do you think she's from the early batch?}

"I think she is much older than that, but I don't think she's with this kid," Said Ethan.

{What? So, did she try to stop you... Then she's a good person}

"... So naive," Thought Ethan, his younger version. He was startled by the tone; it sounded disappointing.

"As you move between realms, you turn to realize how ugly is the human species," Said Ethan.

{...if that's what you think, so...so why are you trying to save them?}

"... it's a request from the person who sent me back and also for revenge towards someone,," Said Ethan.

"Heh! I am talking!" The girl aimed towards Ethan with her bow ready to shoot, Ethan immediately spotted something odd.

"Her bracelet has a dark aura to it..." Said Ethan.

{What does that mean?}

Ethan's hand moved and touched his own bracelet, with a similar dark aura to it; the girl saw his action, and she froze for a second before regaining her calm, but her question changed.

"What timeline are you?" She asked cautiously; this time, Ethan was certain; he lifted his hand and spoke to the girl.

"The end of time," He said; the girl looked at him stupidly, not understanding what he was saying.

"She isn't from the end, does that mean she came back much earlier than me and the others?" Thought Ethan.

{What do you mean?}

"Things are much more complicated than you think; I am not that special character in books that ends up being the only one granted a means to come back, in fact, I wasn't chosen; this ability was given to me by someone," Said Ethan.

{The person who asked you to save humanity?}

"...yes, but apart from me, those of the Ruler, seekers, and messenger of the brilliant light had somebody who was sent back; one of my tasks is to find them and kill them," Said Ethan.

{That means?}

"Yeah, she might belong to one of the factions sent back, and if it's the brilliant light, she needs to be killed immediately," Said Ethan.

"Why are you ignoring me!" Said the girl; the more time passed seeing Ethan standing there, the more she was anxious; she did not know how things ended up being this complicated.

"What's with this man?!" She wondered if he had been standing there spurting out nonsense. Is she like her? Questioned the girl.

As she kept walking sideways, she kept an eye on the boy and the small girl, "why was he trying to harm that girl?" She questioned; she looked at his bracelet before looking at his face, "Which faction does he belong to? Is it the brilliant light? I don't want to face someone from there, especially with my strength gone" Thought the girl.

She was strong; she was once strong, but her last memories were of her dying in the middle of a battle against a higher being named Chronos.

From there on, everything went dark, and she suddenly opened her eyes to the fairy games, which confused her; she went through the process once again and came up to the migration tower; her first thought was to get a weapon, only to realize that, someone was already hunting down the iron monsters.

"One thing is certain: he is from my timeline; if I ask him his name, maybe I would remember his rank,," Thought the girl.

"What's your name!?" She shouted towards Ethan, who also finished chatting with his younger self.

"My name is Ethan Grimm" He answered, his hand pointed towards her, asking her to present herself too.

"... Eliana Fox" She answered.

Who is that?!

They both simultaneously questioned, and none of them knew about the other, it was normal, Ethan was an ordinary soldier, trying all means to stay alive, he started displaying his uniqueness after unlocking his trait in the eighth realm, while Eliana died miserable, alone, in the time world, Chronos, her existence wiped from the memories of those in that timeline, but fortunately ended up reborn and dragged back her.

Her fingers were getting tired, and her focus exhausted her mentally; she stopped walking around Ethan but accidentally slipped.

Oh no!

Swoosh!

The arrow Swift headed towards the wrong target, the kid, seeing this, Eliana wanted to cry, but to her surprise, a shadow showed up in between the arrow and the child and grabbed it.

"What's wrong with your aim?" Asked Ethan; Eliana sighed but immediately realized that it wasn't the time and got ready to engage a new one.

"I think that's enough..." Her hand was stopped by a strong force; she felt the grip on it and a slight pain; Ethan looked down at her, his eyes close to scarlet.

Strong.

That's what she thought, "how much strength have you gathered?" She questioned, but Ethan did not answer, he had more urgent questioning than that.

"What faction are you from?" He asked, his other hand was getting ready, with energy gathering at the tip of his fingers, ready to tear her throat, no matter the answer given.

None of the factions were allied powers; he hated all of them to the core and spent his time killing them before being stopped by Athena and her faction of Apex.

"I did not belong to any," Answered Eliana. She looked down, thinking maybe Ethan would look down on her for not belonging to any, but she felt the grip lessening.

"Where you a walker?" He asked; Eliana looked up and nodded with excitement, thinking that maybe she wasn't forgotten.

"I was, I was a walker, a renowned one to say, Eliana Fox, the one who moved alone," She narrated, but Ethan was confused.

"Never heard of, where did you die?" He asked her; Eliana's expression immediately grew dark and sad, "I don't remember much; all I know is I died in the Chronos realm, killed by the higher existence, Chronos, and when I woke up, I was back," She said.

Ethan was confused, "A Chronos realm?" He questioned why he didn't have a contingency plan for that.

{Now that she is talking, one of your memories is blocked with strange patterns}

"What do you mean?" Asked Ethan; Eliana looked up at him, 'with whom is he speaking?' she questioned.

{There's a clock bouncing up and down reading time, it's like actually looking at a countdown to something ominous}

"Why didn't you inform me about that?" Said Ethan, not happy at his younger self's inability to view the situation more seriously.

{I was going to inform you, but you ask me to keep quiet hum!}

"..." Shocked by the reaction, he questioned whether this brat was serious; sometimes, we don't understand how annoying our younger selves are until we meet them and interact with them; he really wanted to smack this boy hard.

Ethan wasted time with these two; he walked towards the door, leaving behind the kid and the girl; if what his younger soul was saying was true and the words of this girl were valid, Chronos should be a forgotten realm.

One of the principal reasons why none of the reincarnated nor reborn succeeded in changing the faith of humanity and stopping extinction.
