Chapter 14: 13. Functionality (1)
It took a moment for Ethan's infant soul to calm down; Ethan, the old soul, opened his eyes and looked forward towards the Fairy's grin, "I would one day repay your kind gesture." He marked this statement within his broken soul.
Of those who could sustain standing up, almost half of them had internal injuries, their bodies still adapting to the shock, they glared at the fairy.
"Oh, don't look at me like that; it's a necessary process you need to take to be eligible to climb the migration tower,," Said Cadell.
'migration tower?' questioned everybody, they all looked at the giant tower at the far horizon, with endless chains attached to it, and at some point, they would see the chains shake violently, and at the same time, the tower shook violently, it did not look good to see.
"What the hell is beneath the clouds?" Murmured Laura, everybody had the same question.
Roar!
They heard a blood-chilling roar from beneath; their blood went cold, "what's that?!" Shouted Dimitri, all the crowd looked towards the direction pointed.
A chain burst out of the black clouds and headed for the building, it tied itself and dragged the building further down.
Clap!
Cadell called upon their attention with a soft clap filled with energy, which rendered everybody speechless.
"The bracelet you have has taken your stats and strength as repayment, you see, those things were made specifically for strong beings, so in other to make you guys slightly strong, I had to implement a temporal policy of collecting cores, those who died certainly did not have enough," said the fairy, that's went the crowd realized, some people haven't woken up yet.
"He is dead," Said Alex, touching the vital signs of his colleague to see whether he was alive; screams and sorrow sounded nearby.
"Honey, wake up, honey! You promised me you wouldn't die! Wake up!" Shouted the woman; others were kids, and so on.
Ignoring their cries, the fairy proceeded with her explanation, "This device would enable you guys to equally or whatever you want to distribute your stats points on the attributes you want to increase, either speed, strength, or dexterity," Said Cadell.
"They also have a bond in your soul, so, in a situation, it gets destroyed or broken, you might suffer a huge soul damage, but don't worry, the stronger you are, the stronger the bracelet resistance," said Cadell, Ethan smirked at the statement, "the was a reason why members of the final brigade had this, even he remove this thing" Remember Ethan.
[Chains of subjugation]
It wasn't created by these people but was invented for them by some guy he didn't know for the moment but was eventually going to know and even encounter in the long run.
The land descended down the clouds, and as the fairy kept talking, the clouds shaded their view of what was lying in front of them.
"After equipping your new bracelet system, you would have to climb up the tower to its summit; you have a year after that; the big guy under the clouds would sink it down the abyss," said the fairy; she said it so casually that it sounded like a joke.
"I don't know how you climb it, I don't really care, they are numerous roads, as you climb it, getting stronger should remain your main objective, my children, fight with to die and I hope we meet at the summit to the next realm"
"My little fairy-friendly chat games end here; I hope we meet next time," said the fairy as her body gradually scattered into shining dust and vanished.
Rumble!
?!
The platform they stood on shook violently; it was falling apart; the dome protecting them vanished, allowing the merciless wind to hit them; some people staggered and fell.
"That bitch!" Lazar cursed loud enough for everybody present to hear; Katnese tried to maintain her balance; she looked forward and saw the edge of the platform bursting out of light.
They exited the platform, and the first thing they saw were other platforms falling all around them; it was an astonishing sight to behold as numerous humans from ethnic groups could be seen, screaming and crying, and all had desperate looks on their faces.
"Chain! Jump towards the chains!" Screamed Ethan, he stood at the edge; the platforms, not only theirs, were heading towards the numerous chains.
One platform, in particular, was unlucky; its chain violently shook, blasting the platform to bits with all the people on it.
The screams that followed were that of despair and demand for help, but the clouds swallowed them.
"Follow the small boy!" Scream Lazar, his men, and other people nodded, seeing the platform being blasted; they weren't safe on this crumbling land.
Ethan held two swords in his hands, picked from those who did not make it from the subjugation; he stared at the chains; these chains were big, very large; it was to the point that the platform looked like ants in front of them.
That's their road towards the tower entrance, the fairies would never bring them to the first layer and would instead toss them at the edge and bet on the amount that would come out alive.
Ethan took a deep breath as he ran forward. He jumped, and the wind dragged him behind, Katnese's heart skipped, but rendering the blasted scene of the platform not far from them, she closed her eyes and ran forward why, screaming and crying.
"Ha!" The wind dragged her as she shook in the sky like a rough paper trying to get a grip of her balance, she wasn't the only jumper.
Dimitri, Damian, Lauren, Patricia, Captain Alex, Lazar, and his hand with numerous people all jumped; some people were too afraid to take the risk, but it was understandable.
Swoosh!
Boom!
Another platform was blasted; some people had already jumped out of it, though, from a distance, you could see it as a rain of small figures.
Katnese saw the dark clouds approaching them at a rapid pace; she thought it was over; she saw Ethan being swallowed, and soon it was her turn.
"Ha!"
Bang!
She felt a sharp pain traveling through her body as she hit the floor, but she didn't care about the pain; her body jerked up instantly, and she looked at her surroundings.
"Where are we?" She asked.
"The entrance of the tower." She turned and saw Ethan, his attention directed towards the top; she looked up and gasped in shock, "Is this really a building?" She questioned.
People kept on appearing all around the giant and endless platform; nobody ever fell on another.
"It begins, the migration tower; after climbing you, I faced numerous entities and existence beyond understanding and even had to face a half-god and died at the end, but here am I, re-climbing you." Ethan smiled; Katnese glanced at him, before looking up at the sky eye.
"Is this hell?" She stared at the giant red eye, looking down at them, "Is that our destination?" She questioned, Ethan nodded.
That's their destination; they have to climb all and conquer the floor as they move up, as within a year, this tower would sink into the abyss; their objective is to reach the summit and face that eye.
