Wizard:Start as a Potion Master

Chapter 42: Chapter 42: Wolf Bite Potion and Grass King Kaloyan

In the training grounds, Angel Statue Soldier One raised its massive marble hand in a chopping motion, striking the ground with tremendous force.

The impact created a shockwave, forcing Warwick, the old werewolf butler, Blom, the veteran werewolf soldier, and Robert, the knight-servant, to retreat quickly out of its range.

With a loud crash, the ground cracked, leaving a gaping pit where the hand struck.

As Angel Statue Soldier One prepared for another attack, Su Nan gave a command: "Stop. That's enough."

The statue paused mid-motion, turning its head toward Su Nan and responding in a slow, deliberate voice: "Yes… Mas…ter."

The speech of the Cursed Stone Golem was markedly slower than that of a human, but its ability to communicate was still a significant asset.

The unique characteristic of the Cursed Stone Transformation Potion was that the first person the statue saw on the night it gained sentience would become its master. This bond was unbreakable unless the master perished.

On the night Angel Statue One came to life, Su Nan had been the first and only person it saw. Thus, it recognized Su Nan as its eternal master.

Thanks to its magical link with the castle, Angel Statue One exhibited a steady, reliable, and highly loyal personality. It could stand motionless for weeks, pretending to be an ordinary statue, without displaying any signs of impatience or disobedience.

Su Nan addressed the statue: "Go stand by the fountain in front of the castle's main hall. Do it now, while it's still early and most people are asleep."

"Thank you for your service, One."

The statue responded: "Yes… Mas…ter. I… like… standing."

Each step of the statue was ponderously heavy as it lumbered toward the fountain. Once in position, it resumed its guise as a motionless statue, appearing to be nothing more than an angelic decoration honoring the Storm God.

Warwick, Blom, and Robert exchanged astonished glances as they watched the statue leave.

Blom remarked, "Lord Su Nan, this living statue is incredible. It might be slow, but its strength is unparalleled. It'd be a huge advantage in battle."

Robert, however, voiced some reservations. "It's impressive, but its lack of speed limits its potential for pursuit or offensive operations. For defense, though, it's perfect."

Su Nan nodded. "That's correct. For pursuit, we can rely on our mixed units of Werewolf Messengers and Stewards. My next project for the Cursed Stone Golem series will involve a smaller, lighter design. I'm thinking of hollow plaster statues—something inexpensive and numerous."

His gaze shifted to the gargoyle statues perched on the castle's roof, typically used for decoration and drainage.

Turning to Blom, Su Nan asked, "How's your archery training coming along?"

Blom straightened immediately. "My lord, I've made significant progress. I won't disappoint you."

Su Nan tossed him two bottles of One-Leg Immobilizing Potion and two bottles of Sleeping Bug Potion. "Attach these to your arrows and use them for now. I'll develop more advanced magical potions for your arrows later."

"Thank you, my lord!" Blom eagerly examined the mysterious potions, already considering their potential applications in battle.

Next, Su Nan addressed Warwick. "I've spent two weeks developing a new potion to enhance werewolves' biting attacks. I'm calling it the Wolf Bite Potion."

The potion was relatively simple, building on the established foundation of the Werewolf Transformation Potion. By incorporating elements from the Steel Claw Potion and Wolfbane Poison, the formula slightly altered the original to specifically target jaw strength.

Werewolves who consumed this potion would experience enhanced jaw muscles, more elastic facial structures, and teeth as strong as steel. This would allow them to stretch their mouths to extremes and deliver devastating bites capable of ripping through an opponent's torso.

"This potion is designed to elevate the effectiveness of werewolves' bite attacks," Su Nan explained. "I'll start by testing it on the messengers and stewards. Once I've confirmed its stability, you'll have your turn."

Warwick was touched by Su Nan's attention to detail. "Thank you, young master."

However, his expression turned serious as he shifted topics. "There's a more pressing issue, my lord. While you've been immersed in your magical research, trouble has been brewing beyond our borders."

Warwick continued, "First, there's the escalating crisis in the Storm Kingdom. The Bulgaria region has been ravaged by drought and locusts. The resulting famine has driven the Bulgarians and their chieftain, Kaloyan the Iron-Handed—known as the Grass King—to launch raids into the kingdom, looting large quantities of grain."

"They've become more ruthless than ever, even attacking Stormhold itself. After besieging the capital for a week, they retreated northward, sacking the city of Whitebird Keep along the way. Despite the city's surrender, they violated their promises and committed a massacre that shocked the entire kingdom and neighboring states."

Su Nan raised an eyebrow. Kaloyan the Iron-Handed, the Grass King, ruled over a confederation of northern nomadic tribes and partially feudalized Bulgarian lords. His raids into the Storm Kingdom were a perennial problem, but this level of brutality was unprecedented.

Still, Su Nan wasn't surprised. In nomadic societies, a chieftain who couldn't deliver victories would be swiftly overthrown—or worse. Kaloyan's actions were likely a desperate bid to maintain his tenuous authority.

Su Nan asked, "And how does this concern us? Has the king demanded more money from us?"

Warwick sighed. "Worse, my lord. The Bulgarians have launched a second invasion, bypassing Stormhold entirely to strike deeper into the kingdom's southern regions."

"Making matters worse, the Duke of Salonika, who controls the kingdom's last defensive stronghold, has refused to engage the invaders. Instead, he's locked himself in his castle, leaving the southern territories to fend for themselves."

"While we're not directly in their path, many of Maple Leaf Town's trading partners have been attacked. Three days ago, a shipment of a

ncient books destined for the town went missing after one such attack."
