Chapter 41: Chapter 41: The Angel Statue Soldier and Unrest
Peter Barony Borderlands, Afternoon.
A horse-drawn carriage stopped on a desolate hillside near Maple Leaf Town. The driver, a man dressed in a black robe, bore an expression of fanatical devotion as he frequently glanced at the woman inside the carriage.
Through the small carriage window, the woman stared at the town below.
Six months ago, she had passed by Maple Leaf Town and noticed the aura of magic surrounding the baron's castle. It had deterred her from approaching.
Now, not only was the castle engulfed in dense magic, but even the small town below was shrouded in a malevolent aura.
How could the magic here grow so much darker in just half a year?
"What a mystery," the woman murmured. Dark patterns resembling ram horns etched themselves onto her forehead as she frowned. "The owner of this magic not only wields sinister power but also incorporates elements of white magic. How peculiar."
She belonged to the lineage of the Blind Seer, her ancestors being remnants of the invasion two millennia ago. Her bloodline carried the legacy of the King Without Eyes and other supreme entities from that dark dimension. After the ebb of the magical tide, they had hidden among humans, concealing their true nature.
However, times had changed.
When the Storm Kingdom and Holy Crusaders crushed the Eastern Empire fifty-seven years ago, the catastrophic collapse unleashed a resurgence of magical tides. These tides were predominantly dark, empowering her kind and their dark masters.
Now, her task was clear: infiltrate this land, sow chaos, and pave the way for the return of her masters.
Yet, gazing at Maple Leaf Town, Cecia found herself hesitant.
"Half a year ago, this place was far less fortified. How did it become so impenetrable in such a short time?" she pondered.
She suspected the baron might have been dormant, only recently awakening his full power. But even that didn't fully explain the potency of the magic here.
Despite her doubts, Cecia couldn't ignore her mission, issued directly by the Blind Seer herself: infiltrate and destroy this territory.
Cecia turned to the driver, her disdain evident.
The man, oblivious to her scorn, clung to the reins with an air of reverence. "My lady, for the Supreme Order, we are ready to die for you."
Cecia sneered. These fanatics were tools, easily manipulated but ultimately useless.
She dismissed the driver's rambling praises and considered her options.
"If we can't infiltrate the town directly, we'll have to rely on external chaos," she mused.
Her gaze shifted northeast. "The nomads of Bulgaria are desperate. A famine and locust plague have driven them to the brink. They'll make excellent pawns."
Stirring up conflict between the Storm Kingdom and the nomadic tribes would inevitably weaken both, creating fertile ground for further incursions by her dark masters.
Cecia addressed the driver. "Have our agents made any progress infiltrating the town?"
The driver bowed his head. "My lady, we've tried everything. Merchants, craftsmen, even lawyers claiming allegiance to the God of Law—they've all been caught. The town's guards seem to see through every disguise."
Cecia sighed. "It's their heightened senses—smell and heartbeat. They're not ordinary humans. No matter. The Bulgarians will do the work for us."
Peter Castle Training Grounds.
Within the castle, the Angel Statue Soldier was undergoing its first combat test.
Robert, the knight-servant, battled alongside Blom, the old werewolf soldier, and Warwick, the werewolf butler. Together, they faced off against the towering three-meter-tall statue.
After weeks of preparation, the Cursed Stone Angel Statue had been fully animated. Su Nan, observing from the sidelines, used the test to collect combat data.
The Angel Statue's performance exceeded expectations. Though slow-moving due to its immense weight, its sheer durability allowed it to withstand continuous attacks from the werewolves while maintaining the upper hand.
The AI Assistant provided detailed statistics:
Cursed Stone Angel Statue Soldier #1
Age: 0
Strength: 3.5
Speed: 0.5
Durability: 7
Abilities:
Marble Body: Immune to slashing, fire, lightning, and frost damage.
Mental Immunity: Resists all psychic attacks.
Reconstruction: As long as its Cursed Stone Core remains intact, the statue can be repaired or modified using the castle's resources.
The third ability, Reconstruction, was unique to statues bound to the castle. Statues linked to mountains or swamps lacked this adaptability.
Su Nan nodded in approval. "The speed is lacking, but for castle defense, it's perfect. Its durability makes it a formidable wall."
Though its overall stats only slightly surpassed those of a Super Werewolf, the statue's extreme durability and magical immunity made it an invaluable addition to the castle's defenses.
Su Nan envisioned equipping the statue with shields and weapons to enhance its combat capabilities further. It would serve as both a guardian and an unyielding obstacle for any invaders.
After the test concluded, Su Nan addressed his team.
"We'll modify this statue further, perhaps adding more armor or embedding enchanted materials. For now, it's more than adequate as a mobile fortress wall."
The werewolves nodded in agreement.
Unbeknownst to them, en
emies already plotted in the shadows, their schemes converging on Maple Leaf Town and the castle.
