Chapter 8 - Meeting Lin Jia
Chapter 8: Meeting Lin Jia
“Finally, this boring day is almost over.” Yang Yu stretched lazily and stood up from his seat.
Ding Dian, sulking behind the café counter, glanced at him and said, “Who’s making you bored? If you don’t want to be, go find something else to do.”
“Whoa! Someone’s in a bad mood today. Did you have gunpowder for lunch?” Yang Yu teased with a grin.
“Yes, I did! Stay away from me, or I might just explode and take you with me,” Ding Dian snapped.
Yang Yu knew exactly why she was upset—Yu Fei had pissed her off again.
After sulking for days, Ding Dian finally decided to call Yu Fei that afternoon, hoping to ease the tension between them. She didn’t expect much—just a few comforting words would have been enough. But Yu Fei didn’t even pick up. He let the phone ring twice before hanging up.
That was the last straw for Ding Dian. The more he ignored her, the more she called. Eventually, Yu Fei just turned off his phone.
Meanwhile…
Yu Fei and Meng Yun were in the conference room, meeting with an important client.
This client could be a game-changer for their company. If they secured this project, it would be like skipping twenty years of hard work overnight.
To Meng Yun and Yu Fei, this was an opportunity they couldn’t afford to lose.
Inside Meng Yun’s company conference room—
“Minister Luo, it’s a pleasure to meet you. I’m Meng Yun. I must say, I didn’t expect someone so young to be a high-ranking executive in a Fortune 500 company. Truly impressive!” Meng Yun complimented while shaking hands.
“Minister Luo, I’m Yu Fei,” Yu Fei quickly followed, shaking hands as well.
“Oh, no need to be so formal. Just call me Luo Tian,” the man replied politely.
Luo Tian, 33 years old, was the head of the Planning Department at Yang Group and one of Yang Yu’s most trusted aides.
Yang Group was planning to build a massive shopping complex in the city center. Many well-established companies were fighting tooth and nail for the design contract. Initially, the company had planned to hold a bidding competition, but two nights ago, Luo Tian received a direct call from Chairman Yang Yu, instructing him to meet with “Yunfei Medium-Sized Design Company.”
Yang Yu also hinted that Luo Tian should make things difficult for Yu Fei.
Luo Tian didn’t know why, but since the chairman gave the order, he would execute it flawlessly.
“We really appreciate this opportunity, Minister Luo. Let’s move to the conference room to discuss the details,” Meng Yun said.
“Of course! I’d love to see your design proposal. I’ve heard your reputation in the industry is stellar—that’s why I sought you out, haha,” Luo Tian responded.
After the usual business pleasantries, they got down to business.
As Meng Yun explained his design concept, Yu Fei’s phone suddenly rang.
Without checking, he quickly declined the call. “Sorry about that,” he muttered apologetically.
Less than a minute later, his phone rang again.
Annoyed, Meng Yun shot him a glare.
Yu Fei awkwardly silenced his phone again. But just as Meng Yun was about to continue, the phone rang for a third time.
This time, even Luo Tian frowned. “Mr. Yu, perhaps you should take the call—it might be urgent.”
Yu Fei forced a smile. “Nothing is more important than the chance to work with Yang Group.”
With that, he powered off his phone.
Back at the Café…
“You’re off in ten minutes. What’s the plan? Dinner, shopping, a movie—you name it,” Yang Yu asked.
“No, I’m not in the mood. Don’t bother me,” Ding Dian grumbled.
“As if you ever have a good mood,” Yang Yu scoffed.
He walked over and grabbed her hand. “Alright, I get it—you’re upset. So let’s go on a shopping spree and blow off some steam. Then we’ll have a feast. I promise you’ll forget all your worries. Let’s go.”
Before she could protest, Yang Yu dragged her toward the door.
Just as they reached the entrance, a stunning woman walked in.
It was Lin Jia.
The moment Ding Dian saw her, she immediately pulled her hand away from Yang Yu’s and ran up to Lin Jia, throwing her arms around her in a big hug.
“Jia-jie, you’re finally back! I missed you so much!” Ding Dian exclaimed excitedly.
“I haven’t been home in years. Since I finally got the chance, I wanted to stay a little longer,” Lin Jia replied with a smile.
Then she turned to Yang Yu and raised an eyebrow. “Aren’t you going to introduce us?” she asked Ding Dian.
Before Ding Dian could speak, Yang Yu stepped forward with a charming smile. “Hello, beautiful. I’m Yang Yu. Nice to meet you.”
He shook Lin Jia’s hand.
So that’s why I haven’t seen her around, Yang Yu thought to himself. She’s been away all this time.
Lin Jia gave a small smile. “Nice to meet you too. I’m Lin Jia.”
