Chapter 34: “The Perfect Ambush”
Rex knelt down and began sketching a map of the area into the dirt. He pointed to an abandoned warehouse at the center of the industrial complex. "This is our target. The warehouse is ideal – large enough for us to move around, but dark and full of cover. Most participants retreat there when they collect crystals. We wait until two or more groups fight, and as soon as the winner is weakened, we strike."
Kyro nodded slowly, but doubt flickered across his face. "And what if they notice us? What if we end up walking into a trap ourselves?"
"That's why you're here," Rex replied with a crooked smile. "You're fast, precise, and can improvise. I'll create a distraction while you secure the loot. My kinetic bow is enough to keep them at bay while you deliver the final blow."
"And what about the monsters?" Kyro glanced at the shadows among the rubble, where crystalline creatures lurked.
"The monsters are a risk," Rex admitted. "But we can use them to our advantage. Many participants underestimate the danger these things pose. If we play it smart, we could even incorporate them into our strategy."
The two moved through the shadows, their steps quiet and their presence nearly undetectable. Rex led the way with sharp, watchful eyes, while Kyro followed, his hand ready on the hilt of his weapon. From an elevated platform, they observed two participants locked in an intense battle. One of them wielded kinetic resonance to form a kind of spear, while the other hurled massive, floating metal debris through the air. The atmosphere crackled with energy, and the ground beneath them trembled.
"Perfect," Rex whispered. "They'll wear each other down. As soon as one falls, we'll grab the crystals."
Kyro shot him a skeptical look. "And what if they notice us before we can strike?"
Rex pulled out his kinetic bow, letting it appear in a glowing blue shimmer, and nocked an imaginary arrow. "That's my job. I'll keep them busy while you secure the loot."
