Veil of Dusk A dystopian world

Chapter 30: “The Hunt for Resonance Crystals”

The recruits exchanged nervous glances as Echo skillfully used the silence to give more weight to her words. "Be careful. And be quick. Let the games begin."

The abandoned industrial site lay still and empty in the twilight, but the air was charged with tension. Drones hovered above the area, recording every movement while Shade and his four commanders observed the scene through a holographic projection. Everything was ready.

"Three… Two… One… Go!"

Kyro felt the wind of the resonance. It was as if the field itself was breathing. The faint hum that had barely been audible before had turned into a deafening roar. Kyro could see the invisible streams of resonance flowing through the air. The danger was almost tangible. Like wild animals in a cage, the recruits stormed off in all directions.

Adrenaline surged through his veins, fueled by the danger, the thrill, and the drive to win. Kyro shouted, "I'm taking first place, just watch!" and reached for his blades. His fingers wrapped around the cold, sharp weapons as his muscles tensed, ready for battle. The resonance fields raged around him, and he knew he had to act quickly to avoid being caught by the chaotic energy. With a sharp glance, he spotted a clear path that shielded him from the storm – his chance to keep a clear head and form a plan.

He closed his eyes, took a deep breath. "Stay calm," he whispered to himself. The resonance around him felt like a living, pulsing entity. Kyro focused on finding patterns within the chaos. After a few moments, he opened his eyes, now glowing with green and blue light. "I see it… the resonance follows a pattern," he thought as he analyzed the streams with sharp focus and charted a route through the fields.

He navigated safely through the storms and sighed in relief. "One problem down," he murmured as he avoided a hazardous zone. But then his gaze locked onto a specific point – two figures heading his way: Neo and Nia, the twins. They were near a resonance crystal, and Kyro immediately realized he wasn't the only one after it. "Damn, those two…" he thought, feeling the danger radiating from them. Although they had originally been separated, they now seemed to be working together.

At that moment, Nia spotted him and shouted to Neo, "Someone's trying to steal our resonance crystal!" Neo reacted instantly. "Time Fracture," he said, activating the technique of the commander of the second division. Time slowed down, and in fractions of a second, he moved forward as if bending time itself.
