{Chapter: 47 I think you are trying to get your ass kicked!}

While Lin Yuan pondered in silence, Chi Qian found herself subtly surprised by him.

His gaze, unwavering and serene, met hers with an unusual clarity that was neither intrusive nor rude. It was rare for her to encounter someone who could look at her without faltering, without that inevitable discomfort or nervousness her presence often invoked in others.

Chi Qian, from a young age, had been nurtured in an environment of privilege and refinement. Her family had honed her elegance, and her naturally noble demeanor, paired with an indifferent disposition, created an aura that made most people lower their heads when in her presence. It wasn't something she actively sought—her personality simply had that effect. Yet Lin Yuan stood as an anomaly.

He wasn't fidgeting under her gaze. He wasn't showing the slightest unease. Instead, his calm, composed demeanor mirrored her own, as though he were entirely unaffected by her presence.

They sat there, each quietly analyzing the other. Though their expressions remained neutral, there was an unspoken depth in their silence, as though the air between them was charged with an invisible tension. Neither of them rushed to speak, allowing the moment to stretch, both seemingly content to let their actions and demeanor do the talking.

Before either could break the silence, the event officially began.

The music exhibition of the Jiangbei Conservatory of Music was a highly anticipated occasion. As one of the top five music academies in the country, the institution boasted a prestigious reputation. This was a place where talent flourished, where performers exuded a magnetic charm through their art.

The stage came alive with a vibrant energy. One by one, students took to the spotlight. Not only were they talented, but many of them were exceptionally good-looking, enhancing the allure of their performances. Whether it was playing intricate instruments, singing in melodious tones, or dancing with graceful precision, the audience was captivated.

As the exhibition unfolded, an unexpected figure stepped onto the stage. It was none other than Shan Shuwen, the same boy who had earlier approached Chi Qian with a hand warmer.

Shan Shuwen's appearance immediately drew attention. His face bore a determined expression as he sat down in front of the grand piano. But before he began, he glanced toward Lin Yuan and Chi Qian, his gaze lingering on them for a moment longer than necessary.

Then, clearing his throat, he began to speak.

"For someone very special, I have been practicing the piano tirelessly for the past three years," Shan Shuwen declared, his voice steady yet carrying a hint of emotion. "I've practiced until my hands were covered with band-aids and calluses. I've dedicated myself to improving every aspect of my skills, just so I could one day play a song alongside that person."

His words elicited gasps and murmurs from the audience. The sentiment, while dramatic, was undeniably romantic and struck a chord with many.

"Wow, that's devotion!" one audience member whispered.

"He's so passionate. Young love is really something!" another remarked.

Buoyed by the supportive reactions, Shan Shuwen nodded in appreciation, his confidence seemingly growing. He then added, "That person is none other than Miss Chi Qian. I…"

Before he could finish, however, the mood in the auditorium shifted. The murmurs of admiration transformed into jeers and sarcastic laughter.

"Playing with the goddess Chi Qian? In your dreams!" someone shouted.

"Do you think you're even worthy? Have you looked at yourself lately?" another voice chimed in.

"Compared to Male God, you don't stand a chance!

"You should really rethink your life decisions!"

Shan Shuwen froze, clearly caught off guard by the audience's unexpected reaction. The tide had turned against him in an instant, leaving him speechless.

Flustered, he quickly abandoned his speech and began playing the piano instead. The first notes of his chosen piece, The Flight of the Bumblebee, filled the room.

The melody, characterized by its rapid tempo and intricate rhythm, required a high level of technical skill. Shan Shuwen's fingers danced across the keys with precision, his movements fluid and practiced.

Though the performance showcased his technical abilities, the emotional connection seemed absent. As the final notes faded, the audience responded with polite applause rather than overwhelming enthusiasm.

Shan Shuwen stood, basking in what little praise he had received. His eyes, however, betrayed his true intentions as they sought out Lin Yuan and Chi Qian once more. A faint smirk played on his lips, his expression dripping with a subtle yet undeniable provocation aimed directly at Lin Yuan.

Yu Shanshan, sitting beside Lin Yuan, immediately caught on. She folded her arms and scowled. "Hmph! What a show-off! Honestly, all I heard was buzzing noise. How is this even music?"

Lin Yuan, however, remained composed. He offered a small smile and replied, "His technique is commendable. The rhythm was precise, and there were barely any mistakes in the notes. But…" He paused for a moment, as if choosing his words carefully. "He focuses too much on displaying his skills. There's no emotional depth, no connection to the audience. It's like he's playing for himself rather than inviting others to feel the wild energy of the piece."

Chi Qian, who had been quietly observing, nodded in agreement. "You're right," she said simply, her voice calm yet affirming.

Yu Shanshan's eyes sparkled with excitement. "Cousin, you know about piano too?!" she asked, her tone a mix of surprise and admiration.

Lin Yuan chuckled lightly. "I know a little," he admitted modestly.

"Well then, you should totally go up there and show him how it's done!" Yu Shanshan exclaimed, practically bouncing in her seat. "That Shan guy is so annoying! I'd love to see you put him in his place. Right, Qian Qian? Don't you want to hear Lin Yuan play too?"

Chi Qian smiled faintly, a rare expression that softened her typically aloof demeanor. "I wouldn't mind hearing him play," she said, her tone laced with curiosity.

Despite their encouragement, Lin Yuan shook his head. "This is your school's event, meant to showcase its students' talents. If I were to go on stage, it would be inappropriate—like stealing the spotlight from them," he explained. His refusal was gentle yet resolute, leaving no room for argument.

Chi Qian said nothing, but a subtle glance at Lin Yuan revealed a flicker of interest in her otherwise composed eyes.
