Chapter 5: Chapter 4
"Trevor?" I said looking at my cousin, who I hadn't seen in six years.
"Anaya my stranger cousin," Trevor said as he engulfed me in a hug. We grew up together, playing all sorts of games and always binge watching movies all night during the holidays but as we grew up we became distant, I didn't go home for the holidays and I guess communication got cut. He was standing right in front of me and it felt like we had never separated at all, "I can't believe you are here right now," I said tightening the hug to reassure myself I wasn't hallucinating.
"I can't believe this is really you right here, when I saw you from across the room I couldn't believe it," he said holding me at arms length as he took a good scan of me up and down, "And very short."
"Oh come on, I am very tall for my age. How have you been?"
"Good, life was life you know. Why didn't grandma tell me you will be here too I mean I did tell her about it but she didn't mention anything," he said, confusion pasted on his face but he then quickly put a smile on his face. I guess he decided to ask her himself because I wouldn't possibly have the slightest idea besides the fact that I had strictly told my gogo not to tell anyone about my plans because they didn't deserve to know and I didn't know what they were doing.
"Well Gogo always has something cooking in her brain, anyways what are you studying here and out of all the places in the world you came here?"
"Well I am doing a B.tech in computer science and artificial intelligence and I chose this university because I heard they had this whole new technology going on and students were going to be selected to be part of this whole project. It's pretty amazing and if I get in, it will be a game changer for my career and me," Trevor said as he handed me a glass with juice as we sat by an empty table.
"Trevor is now a computer geek that is a whole game changer of this whole personality I had going on in my mind about you. Like the play boy having multiple girlfriends," I said teasing him.
"So what about you?"
"Well I am doing a B.com in Accounts and finance and I chose this university because of its program too plus I am in love with Singapore."
"Does that have anything to do with you being in love with this Chinese/singaporean/korean band? Mmh I can't quite remember but I did hear you are super obsessed had all this merchandise and t-shirts," he said giving me the teasing eye.
"Who has been feeding you all this information? I am not that obsessed I just love them the same way you love Kendrick Lamar and they helped me discover Singapore nothing serious," I said my mind taking me back to the moment I had an encounter with Jay and the time at the mall I thought I saw him.
"We definitely need to catch up and tall because there is a lot we have to tall about, I kind of have this get together I have to go to so hmu on my number and we set a date," he said, as we exchanged numbers. "It was nice seeing you Aya," he said giving me one more hug before leaving.
"Somebody just had a boyfriend at their orientation," TingTing said as she sat next to me with a huge smile on her face. " Eww that is my cousin," I said giving her the disgusted face. "Ooooh ugh I thought Jay had competition already."
"What?why would Jay have competition? " I asked finding humor in what she said. "Well you know, some encounters are not just coincidental," TingTing said wiggling her eyebrows at me as she gave me her child like smile. She was being ridiculous why would Jay and I- no let's not even dive into that. Some topics are not meant to be dived in- but , no I only met him once the mall thing was just my hallucinations, right?
"Is it me or I am not feeling this whole orientation thing?" Saejin said as she sat across us with a bored expression, Saejin was a very attractive woman, her short hair made her even more attractive and the fact that she was tall made her stand out. Tingting was very pretty, she was the cute pretty girl who you would want to just engulf in a tight hug and protect. She was so friendly, sincere and likeable, and right now they were my friends and roommates.
"I am done with my orientation, are you guys done?" I asked looking at both of them.
" I am done but I have somewhere to be, I will be home late and I will text you when I am heading back home," Saejin said putting all her things in her backpack. TingTing and I gave her the suspicious eye but we chose to keep our comments to ourself as we tried to hide our smile, "I am not yet done, I need to go and register into some clubs and also fix my registration issues, so I will meet you back at home Anaya."
"I can wait for you-"
" No,it's okay it will take a while."
So here I was walking around the mall just window shopping and buying some things we needed at home, back at home whenever I needed to think or just sort out things in my mind I would just go window shopping at the mall or spend my time touring an area I have never been at. There was some sense of peace I had being alone in an area where there was so much to uncover and sometimes malls were the best because I would uncover a new store or a new game arena I didn't know about. I decided to take the elevator which had this man who was standing in a corner looking all weird and suspicious all covered up but maybe I was thinking too much into it as i was also wearing a mask, as the elevator descended it suddenly shook and came to an abrupt stop. The lights switched off and a dim light switched on, I tried the buttons but none of them were working. This was not happening, I wasn't going to be stuck in an elevator with a man I didn't know anything could happen while we are stuck here.
"What is wrong, are we stuck?" the man said as he walked to where I was standing by the door. "I think so," I answered stepping back from where he was but I froze as something registered in my mind, that voice. I could recognize that voice in my sleep, don't tell me I was stuck in this elevator with...
"Jay?"
