Until We Met Again-Fanfiction

Chapter 3: Chapter 2

I stepped outside the airport, the humid night air clinging to my skin as the rain drizzled lightly. The city lights reflected off the wet pavement, casting a golden glow on everything around me. Even though it was late, Singapore was still alive.

A man in a black suit held a sign with my name on it. He worded for the student accommodation I would be living at. He led me to a sleek black van parked nearby, the doors slid open, and the cool air conditioning of the van hit me and welcomed me in . As we drove through the city, I pressed my forehead against the window, taking everything in. Towering sky scrapers stretched into the sky, the well lit cafes, and the large billboards with different advertisements in different languages. It felt surreal. This is the kind of place I have only ever seen in movies and pictures...oh and on Instagram.

"We are almost there," the driver said, his voice polite but a little distant.

"Okay," I said, nodding my head with my hands gripping my backpack in anticipation.

As I stood in front of the student accomodation, my eyes felt like they were failing me. I felt my breath hitch. The building was striking-modern, sleek, and almost reminiscent of Changi Airport itself. It was like it was inspired by the airport itself. Of course, the extravagant waterfalls and ceilings were not there, but you could see the inspiration was there.

The check-in process was smooth. The receptionist handed me my keyboard and gave me a brief rundown of the facilities , a shared lounge, study room, a gym, and even a rooftop garden with a view of the city sky

My apartment was on the seventh floor. The moment I stepped inside, I knew I had made the right choice . I had my own room with a bed, desk , a private bathroom, and even a mini fridge. It felt more like a cozy hotel than a student housing . Two doors down the hallway led to my roommates rooms, I could hear faint music playing from one of the rooms. I was going to say hi, but it was really late, and I would do the introductions the next morning.

I placed my suitcases next to my wardrobe, letting out a long sigh. It had been a long day, and all the excitement was slowly coming down, and the tiredness was popping its heard.

I opened my suitcase to get my toiletries and my night wear out and had a quick shower. I was hungry, and I didn't know where I could get food, so I wore my night wear and decided to allow the tiredness to take more control over my hunger.

I finally became fully awake at around 12 in the afternoon , I was so exhausted, but I wasn't sleepy anymore. I got out of bed and freshened up. I then left my room, and as I walked to the kitchen, I could hear voices chatting . I stood by the entrance . There were two girls in the kitchen one sitting by the kitchen counter eating an apple and the other standing by the stove frying eggs and sausages. The one who was cooking was tall , she had short dark black hair and she was dressed in a black sports bra and boy shorts. She was breathtaking. The other one who looked my way seemed a little short but taller than me and had long brown hair. She had a nose piercing, and she was wearing an orange night dress. "Hi," I said nervously as I tried my best not to look down at my feet.

"Oh my word, you are here!" the girl on the counter said. She jumped off from the counter and practically ran towards me. She gave me a tight hug, lifting me up a little bit. "You are here! When I heard we would be having an international student as a roommate, I was super excited, and I was waiting for you eagerly. It felt like a year," she said excitement laced in her voice. Wait, someone was eagerly waiting to meet me? Me???

"Am I not international enough for you?" The girl who was cooking said as she titled her head back to us with a slight smug on her face. She was super attractive.

"Oh, come on, you know what I mean."

"So newbie, how are you?"

"Uh, I am okay, excited and tired," I said as i sat on the kitchen chair.

"You must be excited you flew thousands of kms to get here. How are you finding Singapore? Do you like it? Did it meet your expectations? How was your-"

"TingTing give her break, you haven't even introduced yourself, and you are already bombarding her with questions," the girl by the stove said as she plated and cooked more eggs.

"Oh, sorry, my name is TingTing, and that cute little flirt is Saejin. we are your roommates," she said as she stood up to open the fridge and took out juice and a bowl of fruit salad. " Nice to meet you. My name is Anaya."

"Anaya, what does it mean?"

"It means God has answered, I was my parents answered prayer, yours?"

"Mine TingTing means graceful and Saejin yours?" TingTing asked, looking at Saejin expectantly.

"A fresh new beginning, I think, not sure," she said as she put three plates of food on the table and grabbed water glasses .

"Nice, I need to go, and grab some things and also get a sim card so that I can call my Gogo. Do you know where I can get all that?" I asked.

"Don't worry, we will take you to get everything you need, eat up, and then we will go, and you can connect to the wifi," TingTing said as she poured juice for me and handed me a fork .

"Oh no, I don't want to trouble you, if you could -"

"It's not trouble you are one of us, and we are like superheroes here to save you," TingTing said as she made a Superman pose. Saejin rolled her eyes at her and pulled her sit down and ate after our meal, Saejin and TingTing went to get ready while I connected to the wifi and called my Gogo

"Gogo!"

"Mntanami, hawu sowufikile? (My child, you have arrived?"

"Yebo Gogo(Yes grandma)."

"Are you well settled in, and did you face any problems? Have you eaten?"

"Yes, Gogo, I am well settled in, and no, I didn't face any problems. Yes, I have eaten. I am a big girl, Gogo. I know how to take care of myself just the way you taught me," I said with a huge smile on my face, Gogo had been my mother and father after my parents died, she took care of me as her own and she was there for me through my hard moments. We both lost the people we loved, but we had each other, always will. She was reluctant to let me go abroad, but because she loved me so much and didn't want to restrain me much, she let me go.

"I am so proud of you, my mzukulu(Grandchild). Have you met your roommates? Are they welcoming?"

"Yes, I have, and they are so adorable ,welcoming, and friendly. We are about to go out and do some shopping for some things I will need, the accommodation Gogo is next level."

"Ngempela?(really?) I am so glad to hear that. Well, go and have fun, and call me before you sleep or when you are back," she said before hanging up, it was around 6/7am and I knew she would be awake ,she was always an early riser and with her not working anymore she probably would wake up and just have some nice tea while reading a book or overseeing some company documents. Saejin and TingTing finished getting ready but told me to change my outfit and wear a dress of skirt because it was really hot and humid outside.

"So, what was your first impression of Singapore?" TingTing asked as we descended with the lift.

"Uh, it was everything and more than I expected. It's hot and so humid even when it was raining, which, by the way, I underestimated. And the airport...wow."

"Yeah, it's quite hot here, but you will get used to it eventually and, of course, the famous Changi Airport, did you explore it, or you came straight here?"

"I actually didn't. I arrived late because of a slight flight delay, and I don't think touring the airport would have surpassed the encounter I had," I said the excitement coming back up like a giddy child who was experiencing a sugar rush.

"What encounter?" Saejin asked.

"I met Jay."

"Jay?" Saejin asked as her face was laced with confusion. How could she be confused right now? Tell me she knew who Jay was because if she didn't, I would be sitting her down and introducing all of him to her.

"Jay from Daizy?" I said, as if to remind her who that was and her face turned from confusion to realization, but I wasn't seeing the excitement in her face or the awe.

"Oh," she said as she faced front like what I said didn't just change the world. It didn't but like it did change my world.

"You lucky thing! How was her upfront ?Did you talk? How did you encounter him?" TingTing asked as she looked at me with an excited face.

"He had his face covered and all that, and our luggaes were exchanged by mistake. We didn't talk talk. I did the talking, and he just stared and walked away...so basically, we were on the same flight," I said as we walked out of the lift, there were a few people walking around here and there and some casually sitting by the lobby busy on their phones, it was so cool all thanks to the air conditioning. The area was quiet and relaxing, only hearing sounds of birds or people having conversations or someone playing a game on their phone.

"Cooool, your first day here, and you already met one of the famous celebrities. How lucky can one person be."

"We are going to catch the Mrt. Mrt here is quite reliable and easiest mode of transport and it's really close to where we are. You will never get lost unless you are really, really bad with directions," Saejin said as we walked towards the mrt station. My eyes couldn't stop wandering, and looking around, it's like I was a new baby experiencing the world for the first time.

Saejin and TingTing helped me get an EZ- Link card and showed me how to navigate my way around and explained some things to me, they handed me a face mask , " You can wear it if you want, we usually wear face masks as a personal choice while outside or using public transport basically in public places," TingTing said handing me a yellow face mask. I chose to wear it because they were wearing it and it made them look so good in them. The mask was a bit uncomfortable as it was hot and humid outside, but the train had a cooling system, which made it less horrible.

We boarded the MRT, and as the train sped through the underground tunnels, I found myself wedged between Saejin and TingTing, gripping the pole for balance. The cool air-conditioning was a relief against the heat outside. The soft hum of conversations and the occasional ding of station announcements filled the space.

"Okay, newbie," TingTing nudged me, "so what's the first thing you wanna buy?"

"Hmm…" I tapped my chin, thinking. "A SIM card, definitely. Then maybe some food and room essentials?"

"A girl with priorities," she said approvingly, grinning.

Saejin glanced at her phone, then at me. "The mall has everything you need. We will start there."

The moment we stepped into the mall, I was overwhelmed. It was massive! Polished floors, glistening lights, and a maze of stores stretching in every direction. People moved swiftly around us, purposeful and efficient. It was nothing like back home.

"Welcome to Singapore's consumer paradise," Saejin muttered dryly, leading the way.

I followed closely, trying not to get lost in the sea of people. We found a shop selling SIM cards, and while I was sorting that out, TingTing and Saejin wandered off. When I finally got my number sorted, I turned around only to realize I was alone.

I scanned the crowd. No TingTing. No, Saejin.

Panic started to creep in. I reached for my phone, ready to text them when suddenly I remembered I didn't have their numbers. Where did they go?

I tried to focus, but something felt... off. A strange sensation prickled at the back of my neck, like I was being watched.

I glanced around, my gaze sweeping over the store. Nothing. Just rows of shoppers and staff, some casually browsing, others rushing past. Maybe I was still jetlagged and panic-ridden

But then-

A group of people moved, and for a fleeting second, I saw him. A man, tall and dressed in all black, a cap pulled low over his face, adjusting his mask. His posture was familiar, the way he held himself almost too carefully. My stomach flipped.

No way.

The moment passed, the crowd shifting again, swallowing him whole. I stood frozen, gripping the strap of my bag. Did I just imagine that?

"You good?" Saejin asked, nudging me with her elbow, which freaked me out for a moment as she caught me off guard.

"Yeah, yeah, I am good.I just panicked since i couldn't find you guys," I said, forcing a breathless laugh.

"Oh, sorry about that. we went to grab some iced coffee, I got you an iced latte. I guessed which one you would like," TingTing said, handing me my iced coffee while Saejin, on the other hand, was looking at me like she was figuring out some puzzle, "Are you sure you are okay?" She asked once again.

"Yes, I am," I said, plastering a genuine smile while sipping the iced coffee that tasted amazing and refreshing. I shook off the feeling and followed them as we headed to another store, but my heart wouldn't stop pounding.

Had I really just seen Jay? Or was my brain playing tricks on me?
