Chapter 29: Chapter 29: Don't Make Me Cut Ties with You!
In many people's eyes, it's only natural for bad guys to do bad things. But when a good person starts demanding things from bad guys using their own standards, everyone's gazes turn a bit peculiar.
Hearing Fang Yan's words, many showed expressions of disbelief.
Make Brother Wolf apologize? Is this guy nuts?
Brother Wolf thought Fang Yan must be crazy too.
He pulled out a cigarette from his pocket, and one of his lackeys immediately stepped forward to light it for him. Blowing out several smoke rings, he squinted at Fang Yan through the hazy smoke, his face sinister. "Kid, are you for real?"
"You couldn't handle the real deal; I'm just toying with you," Fang Yan replied with a grin.
"Let me ask you one last time, which crew are you with? Don't let us end up fighting our own by mistake..."
"Is your brain waterlogged? You're a born thug, so you think everyone else is a thug too? I told you, I'm an honorable teacher of the people," Fang Yan said indignantly.
"Which school?"
"Oh, trying to threaten me?" Fang Yan sneered. "You think I grew up scared? The name's Fang Huohuo, math teacher at No. 1 High School. Go ask around; everyone there knows me. If you've got the guts, come find me at No. 1 High. I'll be waiting."
"Got that?" Brother Wolf said to his henchmen.
"Don't worry, boss. We've all memorized it. From now on, this kid won't have any good days," one of them flattered.
They had already decided to gather a bunch of brothers every day to visit this Fang Huohuo at No. 1 High School, making sure he couldn't teach in peace. If that didn't work, they'd get the big boss to put some pressure on the principal to kick out this fool of a teacher.
When a scholar meets a soldier, reasoning is pointless. When a scholar meets a thug, he can only consider himself unlucky.
"I'm giving you one more chance," Brother Wolf sized up Fang Yan. "Say 'I'm sorry, Brother Wolf,' and I'll pretend I didn't hear what you just said. We'll call it a night. How about it?"
"If I were willing to say 'sorry' to you, I wouldn't have stopped you from leaving earlier..." Fang Yan smiled. "I'm someone who cares a lot about saving face, especially in front of my female students. Do as I say: kneel down, line up, each of you kiss their shoes, and say, 'Big brother, I'm sorry, I was wrong...'"
"Are you looking to die?" The gangsters erupted. They were used to running wild and bullying others; when had they ever been humiliated like this?
"Guys, grab your gear! Let's spill some blood..."
"Everyone listen up! A teacher from No. 1 High is taking female students to bars. Don't let your kids go there to get corrupted..."
"No matter how good you are at fighting, you're still afraid of knives." Brother Wolf flicked his cigarette ash, looking at Fang Yan with a sinister smile. "You think just because you can throw a few punches, you can show off in front of us? I see you're a brave guy, so I'm giving you some friendly advice: since you've already shown off, you should ride this wave and go home to get laid. You think we're afraid of you? Since you don't appreciate kindness, we have nothing more to say."
"Even half a sentence is too much," Fang Yan said. "'Fight'—it's just one word."
"Fang Yan..." Jiang Qin tugged at his arm from behind, warning him not to act rashly.
These thugs looked fierce; she was worried Fang Yan would get himself into trouble. She had brought Fang Yan out; if anything happened to him, she'd feel awful.
"When someone does something wrong, should they apologize?" Fang Yan looked at Jiang Qin, his voice gentle.
"Yes, but..."
"If someone breaks the law, should they face justice?" Fang Yan continued.
"Yes, but..."
"No 'buts,'" Fang Yan said loudly. "If I were your teacher, I'd teach you this: 'Wealth can't corrupt you, force can't bend you.' I hope my students are people with backbone."
Jiang Qin's eyes were filled with admiration, and the blood of Nong Po and the others, which had just cooled, boiled once more.
"Mr. Fang is right! Whoever did wrong should apologize..."
"Exactly! Why bully us? We didn't do anything wrong..."
"They harassed underage girls; send them to jail..."
The students waved their fists, shouting loudly. If Fang Yan hadn't been standing in front, they might have rushed up to fight the gangsters.
"Of course, the premise is..." Fang Yan gestured for everyone to quiet down. "Before you do that, consider whether you can actually take them on, or if you have an absolute master like me willing to stand up for you."
"..." The shouting stopped abruptly.
Everyone's faces flushed red with embarrassment and anger, glaring at Fang Yan.
The onlookers also chimed in: This teacher is too unreliable; we absolutely can't let our kids go to No. 1 High.
Bullying thugs is one thing, but how can he bully his own students too?
Snap—
Brother Wolf dropped his cigarette butt and crushed it under his boot. He spat and looked at Fang Yan. "Alright, I won't bully you. Come on, let's have a go."
"What do you mean, 'have a go'?" Fang Yan asked.
"A casual fight. Whoever knocks the other down wins," Brother Wolf said.
Fang Yan darted in front of Brother Wolf, hooked his right arm around Brother Wolf's thick neck, pressed his body against him, pushing back, and just as Brother Wolf lost balance, he yanked forward.
Brother Wolf's broad face slammed into Fang Yan's raised knee—a powerful knee strike.
Thud!
Brother Wolf collapsed limply to the ground, blood gushing from his nose—a pitiful sight.
"Is that what you meant?" Fang Yan asked.
Brother Wolf couldn't respond; the gangsters didn't dare say a word.
Jiang Qin and her classmates didn't know how to react.
One second?
Or even less?
They hadn't even seen what happened—how did Brother Wolf end up on the ground?
The spectators grumbled that it was too unsatisfying—too quick, too short. No epic battle, no exchange of blows. If they hadn't watched for free, they'd have asked for a refund.
Fang Yan placed his foot on Brother Wolf's chest and said to the gangsters, "You can either sneak off—I promise I won't make things difficult—or if you want to take your Brother Wolf with you, then do as I say: kneel down and apologize."
Thud!
The blond thug dropped to his knees, grabbed Fang Yan's shoe, kissed it, and said, "Big brother, I'm sorry."
"Wrong one," Fang Yan said.
"Wrong one?" The blond looked up at him.
Fang Yan pointed at Nong Po and the others. "Kiss their shoes—every single one."
"Yes, big brother," the blond agreed, thinking, This guy is ruthless. Brother Wolf only made them kiss his own foot; this bastard wants them to kiss everyone's...
The other thugs exchanged glances and all knelt down. They wanted to run, but if they left like this, they couldn't call Brother Wolf their boss anymore, and they'd have no standing in the underworld.
"Big brother, I'm sorry, I was wrong..."
"Big brother, I'm sorry, I was wrong..."
Apologizing was painful; being apologized to was also awkward. Nong Po and the others tried not to look at the thugs kissing their shoes, but their bodies trembled slightly.
They felt something click in their minds, trying hard to grasp it but couldn't quite find it.
After the thugs completed the "apology ceremony," Fang Yan lifted his foot from Brother Wolf's chest and said, "Remember, I'm Fang Yan from No. 1 High—no, Fang Huohuo. Don't go after the wrong person."
He impatiently waved at the thugs. "Carry him out."
They rushed over, hoisted Brother Wolf, and hurriedly left. They even forgot to utter threats like "we'll meet again."
Only then did the bar's security guards emerge. After a few questions, Fang Yan dismissed them. He had no respect for these cowards who bullied the weak and feared the strong.
After this incident, no one felt like hanging around anymore. The girls retrieved their bags from the private room, and under Fang Yan's lead, they left the bar.
"Fang Yan, are you really a teacher?"
"Mr. Fang Huohuo from No. 1 High? Is that your real name?"
"You're amazing! Do you know kung fu? Can you teach me?"
The girls swarmed around Fang Yan, bombarding him with questions. The boys, however, avoided his gaze.
"Hey, what are you all doing? I'm warning you, stay away from my uncle! Or don't blame me for ending our friendship..." Jiang Qin acted like a protective hen, shielding Fang Yan from her friends.
Fang Yan looked at Nong Po and the others. "They'll definitely retaliate. Be careful when you go out from now on."
Nong Po raised his head to look at him, gritted his teeth, and said firmly, "I won't come to places like this anymore."
Fang Yan nodded. He knew that after tonight, these kids would be more cautious. It was good for them to develop a sense of respect for society since they didn't yet have the experience or ability to handle such complex and violent situations.
Yuan Lin walked up to Fang Yan, gratitude evident in her eyes. "Fang Yan, thank you. If it weren't for you..."
"It's what I should do," Fang Yan smiled. "Protecting students is a teacher's duty."
"Are you really a teacher at No. 1 High?"
"No."
"I knew it," Yuan Lin sighed with relief. "Fang Yan, can I have your phone number?"
"Hey, Yuan Lin, what are you up to?" Jiang Qin said angrily. "Why do you need his number? If you need anything, just contact me! Hey, don't make me cut ties with you..."
