Chapter 18: Chapter 18: Lunatic!
On the way to work, Fang Yan felt someone following him.
Suddenly turning around, he saw Jiang Qin, dressed in a cute blue school uniform, standing not far away, glaring at him angrily. Her cheeks were puffed up, as if she had suffered a great grievance.
"Liar," Jiang Qin scolded angrily.
"How am I a liar?" Fang Yan turned around and started walking away.
Thump, thump, thump —
Jiang Qin hurried to catch up, trailing closely behind Fang Yan, complaining, "You're still not a liar? You clearly promised me that you wouldn't tutor me—"
"I did promise." Fang Yan argued, "But later when your mom asked your opinion, you agreed right away. I thought that after spending a little time with me, you realized I'm a knowledgeable and upright teacher and changed your mind. What girl wouldn't want a handsome, charming, and approachable tutor? I wouldn't be surprised if you fell for my charm."
"Hahaha—" Jiang Qin laughed so hard she was gasping for breath. "Fang Yan—teacher, how can you be so shameless? I don't know if you're knowledgeable or upright, but I do know that your shamelessness is astounding. How can you say something like that without feeling embarrassed?"
Fang Yan stood at the bus stop, looking at the blushing girl beside him, even her slender neck tinged with pink. He said, "The most important thing for a teacher is consistency between words and actions. Honesty and practicality are key. The truth is the truth, and I can't pretend to be humble to cover anything up. That would be deceiving the student and an insult to their intelligence."
As the Route 19 bus arrived, Fang Yan waved to Jiang Qin and quickly dashed toward the door.
He felt as light as a feather, confident that no one else scrambling for the bus could match his speed.
Don't hinder my righteousness, for I wield both Heaven's Will and the Dragon-slaying Saber.
I blend emotion and honor, ensuring I begin and end with integrity—
Just halfway to the bus, the crowd surged from all directions, surrounding and trapping him.
Caught in the middle, he couldn't move forward or backward, looking utterly disheveled.
"Ma'am, I'm a Taiji master," Fang Yan said, patting the middle-aged woman in front of him who was squeezing especially hard and rudely stepping on his shoes with her high heels. "This is dangerous."
"I know the Deadly Kick to the Nether Regions—wanna see if I use it on you?" the woman retorted arrogantly.
"Ah—" Fang Yan cried out as the woman stomped on his foot and leapt into the bus.
Watching Fang Yan scream in pain, Jiang Qin, with her schoolbag on her back, laughed so hard she had tears in her eyes.
After finally getting on the bus, Fang Yan made sure to stay far away from the woman who knew the Deadly Kick to the Nether Regions.
Anyone who could squeeze onto a bus during rush hour had to be a battle-hardened expert. Fang Yan's Taiji skills were no match for them.
Someone tapped him on the shoulder. Fang Yan turned around and saw Jiang Qin's delicate face right behind him.
"How did you get on?"
"I have to go to school. Are you the only one allowed to take the Route 19 bus?"
"Oh," Fang Yan responded, turning back around.
Jiang Qin poked Fang Yan's back with her finger, laughing as she said, "Teacher Fang, are you really a Taiji master?"
"Is there any doubt?" Fang Yan nodded seriously. "I didn't get a chance to show off today. I'll demonstrate for you next time."
Jiang Qin laughed even harder.
"This girl's got issues," Fang Yan thought after staring at her for a few minutes.
"Teacher Fang, stop being so funny, okay? You know, making someone laugh to death can still get you charged with murder," Jiang Qin said, panting.
"I'm not joking." Fang Yan protested, displeased. As the heir of the Fang family's Taiji, this was a serious matter, how could it be considered a joke?
"What you just said is the funniest part—" Jiang Qin laughed again. She really enjoyed laughing.
Fang Yan fell silent, not wanting to speak to this ignorant kid anymore.
"Hey? Are you mad?" Jiang Qin stood behind Fang Yan, and since she wasn't as tall as him, she had to stand on her tiptoes when talking, otherwise, it would look like a small girl talking to a man's back.
"No."
Fang Yan faced the window, watching the morning streets of Huacheng pass by.
"Hmph, you're such a small-minded person. You're definitely mad."
"Are you really a teacher?"
"Yes."
"Are you really a Chinese teacher at Suzaku Middle School?"
"Yes."
"I don't believe you."
"Whatever."
"Prove it."
"No."
"Liar."
"What did I lie about?"
"Lying about being a teacher at Suzaku Middle School."
"I really am."
"Liar."
The bus was crowded, and everyone only had a tiny bit of space to stand. Fang Yan and Jiang Qin were pressed close together, with Jiang Qin's half chest almost pressed against Fang Yan's back as she tried to talk to him.
But the girl was still a bit shy, using her hands to prop herself against Fang Yan's back, trying to create a little space between them.
"Ah!" Jiang Qin suddenly let out a cry as her body fell heavily onto Fang Yan.
Fang Yan quickly braced himself, catching the girl's forward-leaning body.
Once Jiang Qin regained her footing, Fang Yan turned to look at her.
"What happened?" Fang Yan asked.
"He pushed me," Jiang Qin pointed at a middle-aged man in a black suit behind her.
"Who pushed you?" The man adjusted his glasses, his tone extremely rude. "It was the bus jolting, I accidentally bumped into you."
"Why were you standing so close? What were you doing standing that near?" Jiang Qin wasn't one to be easily intimidated and started accusing the man.
"This bus is so small, where am I supposed to stand? Afraid of being squeezed? Then take a cab."
"You—" Jiang Qin was at a loss for words. Against such a big, shameless man, she had no better way to respond.
Fang Yan sized up the middle-aged man and said to Jiang Qin, "Let me handle this."
He pulled Jiang Qin in front of him and stood where she had been, positioning himself between her and the middle-aged man.
Fang Yan turned to look at the man, who appeared cultured with his glasses, and said, "How does it feel?"
"What?" The man looked at Fang Yan with disgust, unhappy with his "seat swap" move.
"I saw everything."
"Saw what? I don't know what you're talking about," the man said defensively, his eyes evasive.
"No need to be so nervous—"
"I'm not nervous. I didn't do anything!" The man didn't like Fang Yan's expression; his eyes were too clear, and when he squinted slightly, they became sharp and piercing. He didn't like Fang Yan's smile either—it felt like he knew everything but wasn't saying it.
"Idiot," Fang Yan cursed. "I haven't even asked you anything, and you're already busy defending yourself—don't you know that's called a guilty conscience?"
"You're crazy," the man cursed, preparing to leave.
"Your zipper's undone," Fang Yan called out.
