Chapter 17: Chapter:17
Probably because he was worried about the result of the last battle, Uchiha Kagami did not assign any tasks to the three of them for a period of time, and just let them explore the Kingdom of field.
However, Renji wasn't a child without self-control. Determined to prepare for future challenges and overcome his weaknesses, Renji approached Uchiha Kagami, who was casually reading a book. "Sensei, as a student of the Second Hokage, do you know the Flying Thunder God Jutsu? If so, I'd like to learn it."
Kagami's eyebrows raised in surprise. It wasn't the request itself that shocked him—Renji had always been ambitious—but the humility in his tone. Renji, typically proud and self-assured, rarely asked for help. Perhaps the previous battle had stirred something within him.
With a smile, Kagami closed his book and said, "I am indeed familiar with the Flying Thunder God Jutsu, but I'm afraid I may disappoint you—I never fully learned it."
Renji's heart sank, though he had asked more out of hope than expectation. After all, the Flying Thunder God Jutsu was famously complex, and Kagami had trained under the Second Hokage, who was known for his ambivalence toward the Uchiha clan. Many of Tobirama's techniques were designed specifically to counteract the Sharingan and Uchiha abilities. The Flying Thunder God Jutsu, for example, allowed a ninja to teleport instantaneously, bypassing the Sharingan's predictive abilities.
Renji sighed, thinking how wasteful it was for such a legendary jutsu to remain unused. Just as he was lamenting the missed opportunity, Kagami interrupted his thoughts.
"But if you're serious about learning it, I can teach you the principles of the technique. Whether or not you master it will depend on your talent."
Renji's jaw dropped in disbelief. "What? You mean you can actually teach it? But you just said—"
Kagami chuckled, his tone amused. "I said I never mastered it, not that I don't know how it works. But I'll tell you this: you're not ready yet. Your taijutsu, chakra control, and reserves are far from the standard required to even attempt this technique. Once you've reached the necessary level, I'll teach you."
Renji groaned internally. He knew Kagami was a man of principle, unlikely to change his mind once he had decided something. Still, the promise of learning such an extraordinary jutsu was enough to light a fire in Renji's determination. He resolved to train even harder, pushing himself to reach the level Kagami demanded.
As Renji poured himself into training, the atmosphere in the Kingdom of Tian grew increasingly tense. The once-bustling commercial streets emptied, replaced by nervous whispers and the wary eyes of samurai patrolling the area. Even these enforcers appeared shaken, their movements quick and purposeful, as if expecting danger around every corner.
Several nights later, under the glow of a full moon, a figure in a red dress slipped silently into the embassy courtyard. Moving with practiced grace, she entered Renji's room and paused at his bedside, her gaze scanning his face. Her brow furrowed in thought, but before she could act, a cold voice broke the silence.
"I don't recall inviting guests tonight."
Startled, the woman turned to see Uchiha Kagami standing in the doorway, dressed in simple pajamas but radiating an aura of authority.
With an elegant smile, she replied, "Guests who cause trouble in someone else's home are rarely welcomed, I suppose. Allow me to introduce myself: I am Fuyuki, the head of the Amamiya clan. Your presence here has drawn quite a bit of attention."
Kagami's eyes narrowed. So, she knows who we are. The Amamiya clan, with their Crystal Release Kekkei Genkai, were a formidable force in the region. Judging by her demeanor, she wasn't here to fight. Kagami relaxed slightly but remained guarded. "The Amamiya clan may hold power here, but this is not your domain to govern."
Fuyuki smile widened, her tone growing colder. "As the saying goes, a strong dragon cannot suppress a local snake. Even an Uchiha should know better than to overstep."
Unfazed, Kagami countered, "And yet, the same saying warns dragons not to cross rivers where they are unwelcome."
As their verbal sparring continued, Renji stirred from his sleep, blinking in confusion at the scene before him. He quickly stood, his body instinctively tensing as he assessed the unfamiliar woman.
Aito's sharp eyes flicked to Renji, and her smile softened ever so slightly. "Your purpose here is clear. If you wish to join forces, meet me at Kinkakuji Temple tomorrow night."
Without waiting for a response, she disappeared into the shadows, leaving behind a delicate camellia encased in shimmering red crystal.
Renji picked up the crystalline flower, marveling at its craftsmanship. "Such a beautiful Kekkei Genkai. Even without becoming ninjas, the Amamiya clan could live comfortably as artisans."
Kagami chuckled softly. "Indeed. If I possessed a talent like that, I wouldn't risk my life in this dangerous line of work."
Renji continued to admire the flower, its facets catching the moonlight. "The more beautiful something is, the more dangerous it becomes," he mused.
Kagami's expression turned serious. "True. But don't let appearances distract you. We'll meet her tomorrow, but tread carefully. The Amamiya clan is not to be underestimated."
