Chapter 26: Chapter 26: The Flow of Lightning
[3rd POV]
Ares remembers hearing someone say that the physical laws of the Earth in the future were a layer of membrane pinned to the world's surface by a powerful king with a holy lance.
He originally thought that this meant that if the holy lance was ever pulled out, the physical laws on Earth would stop working.
However, after arriving in the Age of Gods, Ares realized his idea was wrong.
The laws of physics should be constants that exist throughout the entire universe.
Otherwise, if laws of physics didn't apply in the Age of Gods, the entire universe would fall apart, gravity would disappear, celestial bodies would go out of control, and the atoms on Earth would be unable to form complete structures.
The so-called "Holy Lance pinning down the physical laws" likely refers to the moment when the powerful king used the Holy Lance to defeat Vortigern, bringing the Age of Gods to a complete end.
At that moment, the Holy Lance would also pin down all the mystery of the world under a thin membrane.
Afterward, the mystery of the Age of the Gods only existed inside the Inner Sea of the Planet while the physical laws took over, becoming the dominant force.
Because of this, the ether dried up, and magus had to start keeping the mystery safe to maintain their own power.
This meant that in this world, the four fundamental forces of the universe should also exist as universal laws that spread throughout the entire cosmos.
After returning to the Tree Palace with his results and asking Hecate about it, Ares received a clear confirmation of this understanding.
He had previously considered that if he could create a power system directly based on the fundamental laws of the universe, Ares could make his dream of "the strong stay strong" come true.
However, while the idea was good, Ares was just an ordinary person, and there was no way he could figure out such a system from nothing.
Fortunately, through the power of the black pendant, which allowed him to travel to another universe, Ares obtained a training method based on manipulating the magnetic field.
Unfortunately, Ares only received in manipulating his physical capabilities, enabling feats like lifting heavy objects or delivering powerful attacks. He could release high-voltage electricity to attack and could move super fast, like lightning, by manipulating his cell to create friction.
While it was a very basic and simple method, it was exactly what he needed. The basic training helped him better understand the structure of this power system.
He could even strengthen it to manipulate the magnetic field around him. He could control the bioelectric currents inside his own body and manifest lightning around his body like Fourth Raikage, A.
However, from the very beginning, Ares faced a big problem.
He didn't know how his super-strong body, which was even stronger than a human's, could ever have learned to manifest lightning around his body.
However, according to the method's records, "electric current" was not something that had to be achieved solely through personal training.
It could also be triggered by having someone zap an "electromagnetic seed" inside the body, stimulating the emergence of this power.
After some thought, Ares decided to seek out his teacher, Hecate.
"What? You want me to electrocute you?"
Hecate stared at Ares in shock, "What kind of experiment are you even doing? Are you out of your mind?"
She thought for a moment, then took a step back, looking at Ares cautiously.
"You... You're not into something weird, are you?"
"No!"
Ares quickly explained, "I'm exploring a new power system. Teacher, can you help me out?"
"A new power system?"
Hecate's eyes lit up with curiosity, "What is it? A mana furnace? Or that 'magic circuits' thing you mentioned before?"
"Neither."
Ares shook his head, "Anyway, if you help me with this, once I figure it out, I'll share the training method with you. How about that for a deal?"
Hecate pondered for a moment before nodding in satisfaction, "Alright."
Since he had invited Hecate as his experimental partner, Ares decided to conduct the experiment inside the Tree Palace.
Hecate's palace was one of the few places capable of shielding them from the gaze of the God-King.
Besides, even if Zeus happened to see them, it wouldn't really matter because he wouldn't understand what was happening anyway.
If he saw Hecate using electricity to zap Ares, Zeus would probably just think that the terrifying witch was trying to "trick" her foolish son into participating in some dangerous experiment.
Then, the experiment quickly began.
Since she needed to control the strength of the electricity, Hecate held back from using her full strength at the start.
She used magic to summon a fragment of Poseidon's authority who could control storms.
Even though not as strong as his brother, Poseidon still possessed some control over lightning to some extent.
After summoning the storm, Hecate used her amazing magical skills to carefully pull the lightning out of the storm, like pulling threads apart.
With a flick of her hand, she directed the pure lightning straight onto Ares' body.
Crack!
A bolt of lightning, thick as a child's arm, struck Ares on the chest. As the current coursed through his body, a burst of red divine power spread around him, and the divine light flickered for a moment.
However, Ares, the God of War, simply took the hit without even blinking an eye, absorbing the lightning effortlessly.
"How was that?"
Seeing Ares close his eyes in deep thought, Hecate asked, "Well?"
"Tsk, it didn't break through."
Ares opened his eyes with a bit of frustration, "Looks like Poseidon's lightning isn't strong enough."
"Hmm, that was expected."
Hecate said, raising her hand, "You're the son of Zeus. You should naturally have some level of control and resistance against lightning."
As she spoke, Hecate raised her hand.
"Now, pay attention. What's coming next is the real deal—the fragment of Zeus's authority, Zeus's lightning."
Suddenly, the sky turned dark, swirling clouds appeared, and countless bolts fell from the sky. They gathered in Hecate's hand and transformed into a pure lightning spear made entirely of thunder and lightning.
In terms of power, this lightning spear was much stronger than Poseidon's storm from earlier.
Even though it might not be as powerful as Zeus's own thunder, it was more than strong enough to pose a threat to even gods.
The ability to manipulate the divine powers of various gods to such an extent indeed gave Hecate the kind of influence that even Zeus feared.
After gripping the lightning spear tightly, Hecate signaled Ares to brace himself. Then, with all her strength, she swung the spear, striking Ares's chest with the blinding thunder, like a whip.
Boom!
The power of the strike was massive.
Even the sound of the lightning changed as Ares' automatically activated divine power barrier shattered like glass under the impact.
Ares was sent flying and crashed into the doghouse where Cerberus lived, causing the three-headed dog to howl in confusion.
After a moment, Ares crawled out from the scorched remains of the doghouse, his body burned with the smell of overcooked.
He walked back to Hecate and gave her a thumbs-up.
"That was great. I can already feel the electricity running through my body."
Ares said, still slightly disoriented, "But that last strike was too powerful. I lost track of everything when my mind blanked, and I couldn't seize the opportunity to control the flow of the electricity. Let's adjust the power and keep going."
Seeing his response, Hecate's curiosity was piqued, and she nodded enthusiastically and raised her hand again.
"Get ready, here I come!"
