Twilight's Wolves

Chapter 20: Friction

The next day he met up with Leah.

"Why didn't you remind me I can't let him touch me, if it wasn't for my mom reminding me, who I told by the way, I would have been found out," said Leah.

"Thought that would be obvious, you've been around us long enough," said Dean.

"Well, it slipped my mind, not like I ever thought I would be one," Leah grumbled.

Ignoring the poor excuse, Dean reminded her of the pack meeting today.

"How do you think they'll react?" asked Leah, preparing for the worst.

Thinking it over, Dean said, "Jake will likely take it the worst, and then Paul. The rest should be relatively cool with it, deeply rooted misogynistic vibes notwithstanding."

"Misogynistic vibes huh? And what are your thoughts on women in general?" asked Leah with narrowed eyes.

"I think they're just as bad as men," said Dean not missing a beat, "And that their biggest enemy is other women."

Leah snorted dissatisfied but unable to refute.

"You said, Jake? I can certainly see Paul being a douche, but Jake?" questioned Leah.

"You haven't been around him much since he's shifted, he's completely different, angrier," said Dean.

"Why?" asked Leah, unable to picture it.

"I'd say many things, but I think it all comes down to Bella, he's obsessed with her and thinks of the change as a massive negative in his future relationship with her," said Dean.

"Bella, there's something wrong with that girl," said Leah.

"Yeah," Dean agreed, no one in their right mind would want to hang out with vampires.

On the way to the meeting, Dean pulled Leah aside, "Wait here, I'll bark to let you know when to come."

"Okay? I have to go take a leak anyway," said Leah, unwilling to tell him that she had to take a dump.

"Could just piss when you're a wolf," said Dean.

"You want me to piss in front of everyone?" questioned Leah.

"No, you don't have to do it in front of everyone," said Dean.

"Whatever, pissing as a wolf is fine and all, but I think I'll stick with toilets when I can," said Leah.

"Guess you haven't used a public restroom lately," said Dean.

"What do you mean?" asked Leah.

"You've been spoiled with your very own private bathroom at home so you don't have to smell others but trust me when I say you don't want to go to a public restroom if you can avoid it," answered Dean.

Her face scrunched up in disgust, "Never thought of that," she said, reconfirming the need to use a toilet to do her business so none of the guys could smell her.

"Do I have time to run home first?" she asked.

"Should be fine I guess, I can stall if needed," said Dean, not understanding why she wouldn't just piss in the woods as a wolf.

"Or just tell them, and they'll see me later," said Leah leaving.

Entering the forest, he shifts and meets up with the others who are slowly starting to arrive.

(What's the meeting about?) asked Paul.

(Patience, not everyone's here yet,) said Sam.

Paul snorted, (As if they can't hear us regardless.)

(Assuming everyone's changed you mean,) Jared pointed out.

(Everyone's here now,) said Jake, arriving with Embry and Quil.

(Alright I have good news, though many of you might have different opinions, I want you to stay respectful and keep an open mind, otherwise any grievances can be brought up in meetings,) said Dean.

(Let's hear it,) said Embry impatiently, (I've been trying to pry it out of Quil since I found out he knew something I didn't.)

(Leah, is our newest member, please hold your applause,) said Dean.

(The fuck?) said Paul.

(Are you serious?) asked Jake.

(No way,) said Embry.

(Where is the bitch then?) asked Paul, without thinking, instantly regretting it as the words escaped him.

Jake, with similar thoughts, was smart enough not to voice them and began to distance himself away from Paul, his movements mirrored by Embry and Quil.

Dean's golden head snapped straight to him, growling ferociously, (I'll remind you only once, do not under any circumstance belittle her in any way in front of me if you value your life.)

(Well, she is technically a bitch now though, isn't she?) said Embry, surprising everyone with the balls on him.

You could cut the tension with a knife it was so thick, and then Quil burst out laughing soon followed by Jake at the absurdity that was Embry who shrank under Dean's continued death glare.

Sam and Jared shared a look and prepared themselves to jump in if Dean started tearing heads off.

Before anything could be resolved, the winds shifted, and the dogs began to bark.

(Quil, stay here and guard the place with Leah when she arrives, everyone else with me,) ordered Dean.

(Sure, just make sure I get to go next time,) said Quil, slightly irked at being left behind.

(That's not good, Charlie and Harry are out there,) said Jake, taking off.

(Why?) questioned Dean, taking the lead.

(A new group of hikers was reported missing nearby, and Charlie insisted on going out in an armed search party since Bella told him about giant wolves back when she was attacked by the deadlock vamp and didn't know it was us,) answered Jake.

(And no one knew about this?) asked Dean.

(Must have been right outside our patrol if it did happen near here,) said Sam.

(Let's think about that later, we need to get there now,) said Jake.

(We will,) said Dean.

...

Leah shifted and went to the meeting spot.

(Hey Leah, you missed it, you and I are on guard duty. The dog alarm sounded and they're out there hunting whatever set it off, oh, and you should know your father's out there,) said Quil offhandedly.

(What?!) shouted Leah.

(Hey Leah, we're on it, I'll kill any vamp who gets close to him,) Dean promised.

(Where are you, never mind, I'll be there shortly,) said Leah catching their scent.

(Uh, I guess I'll guard by myself then,) said Quil.

(No, you won't, Embry circle back,) ordered Dean.

Embry sighed, (Fine.) Grumbling to himself about how he couldn't keep his damn mouth shut.
