Chapter 24: Getting Red Queen

An idea began to form in my mind. I considered employing my new ability, DEVOUR. This power allowed me to extract the abilities of other characters and assimilate them into myself. If I could devour Kaplan, I would gain all his technical expertise and be able to change the Red Queen's code directly after obtaining her motherboard.

However, to execute this plan, I needed to isolate Kaplan. If Alice witnessed me killing or devouring him, she would undoubtedly consider me an enemy. I had to be discreet and strategic in my approach."

Kaplan snapped out of his shock and said, his voice slightly shaky, "Let's do this. We have to go down there now while her defenses are down."

Spence shook his head. "Deja vu, anyone? I'm not going down there."

I looked at Medic and Alice, then turned to Kalpan. "I'll go with you."

Medic and Alice exchanged a glance, and then Alice spoke up, "We'll go with you too."

I thought about it and decided to let Medic and Alice follow. Spence stayed there we moved through the hallway and came to the place where Red Queen's motherboard was.

Kaplan swiftly began setting up his equipment to shut down the Red Queen. Just as he was about to initiate the sequence, the AI's holographic image flickered to life, her voice sharp as she commanded, "Get out. You are not authorized to be here."

I swiftly intervened, placing a hand on Kaplan's shoulder to stop him, and addressed the Red Queen, "What's happening here, Red Queen?"

The AI turned her attention to me, her holographic eyes narrowing as she processed my presence. "Who are you? You are not recognized. I have no data on you. You are not an employee of the Umbrella Corporation."

Alice, Medic, and Kaplan shot me tense, questioning looks, but remained silent. I kept my focus on the Red Queen, offering a slight smile. "Well, Red Queen, it's a pleasure to finally meet you. I'm Vlad."

I held the Red Queen's gaze, my voice steady and firm. "It doesn't matter who I am. What truly matters is what happened here."

The Red Queen's holographic image flickered briefly as she seemed to process my words. She then looked at each of us in turn before responding, "A contamination event has occurred. The T-virus has been released, and I am compelled to follow the established protocols."

Alice stepped forward, her voice steady despite the concern etched on her face. "What is the T-virus?"

The Red Queen's holographic expression remained neutral as she explained, "The T-virus is a biological weapon developed by the Umbrella Corporation. Those infected become zombie-like creatures, driven by an insatiable hunger for flesh and blood."

Alice's voice wavered slightly as she asked her next question, her eyes widening with growing fear. "Are all the people who worked here... infected?"

The Red Queen paused briefly before confirming Alice's fears. "Yes, all employees have been infected." She then displayed a chilling montage of security footage: rooms filled with shambling figures, their eyes vacant, and their faces contorted with mindless hunger.

Alice, Medic, and Kaplan watched in horror, their faces paling as the grim reality sank in.

I spoke up, my voice cutting through the horrified silence. "Red Queen, can you show us who leaked the virus?" I was certain that there would be footage of Spence stealing and releasing the virus, as cameras were omnipresent throughout the Hive.

Without hesitation, the Red Queen flickered briefly before displaying the incriminating video. It showed Spence stealing the virus, throwing the vial to the ground, and fleeing toward the train.

Alice, Medic, and Kaplan watched in disbelief, their faces contorting with anger. "That motherfucker!" they exclaimed in unison.

I turned back to the Red Queen, my expression grave. "You initiated a lockdown of the entire Hive to contain the virus. But have you considered that insects, rats, and other creatures within the Hive may already be infected? They could have escaped to the surface, potentially contaminating the world.

The Red Queen flickered thoughtfully before responding, "I had not considered that possibility, but you are correct. Insects and rats within the Hive are likely to carry the T-virus. If they have escaped to the surface, they could infect the population of the city."

Alice, Medic, and Kaplan exchanged desperate looks. "That means the world is doomed," Alice murmured, her voice heavy with despair. "The T-virus will destroy everything."

The Red Queen offered a glimmer of hope. "Not necessarily. There is an anti-virus, but it has limitations. It can only save those infected within the first two hours, and it must be administered via injection. It is not airborne, so mass distribution is not an option."

Alice quickly asked, "Where is the anti-virus serum?"

The Red Queen's holographic image flickered slightly as she admitted, "I do not know. After the virus leak, Spence took the anti-virus. "

Seeing the dazed look in Alice's eyes, I knew that the Red Queen's revelations had triggered something within her. I stepped closer, gently placing my hands on her shoulders. "Alice? Alice, are you alright? Are you remembering something?" I asked, my voice soft but insistent. "

Alice looked at me and said " I remember everything now, It was Spence who did this. I will not let him go " with some murderous intent in her voice.

I know now everything between Spence and Alice was over. I saw they were going back to deal with Spence but I stopped them and said "Kaplan wait I need you to reprogram Red Queen so that she could only listen to my orders"

Kaplan didn't say anything and took out his gun pointed at me and said " Retrieving the motherboard of Red Queen is my mission "

I looked at him as if looking at a clown. Alice and Medic quickly asked Kaplan " Kaplan lower your weapon he is not our enemy he didn't do anything to hurt us "

Kaplan kept his weapon raised, his voice accusatory. "He's hiding something from us. He has been from the very beginning."

I didn't have time to argue. Using my telekinesis, I wrenched the gun from Kaplan's grasp, suspending it in mid-air, the barrel pointed steadily at him. My voice was stern and commanding. "I wasn't asking, I was ordering. Now, quickly, change her program."

Kaplan, Alice, and Medic stared in shock at the sight of the gun floating away from Kaplan's hand and aiming itself at him. Alice was the first to break the stunned silence. "How is this possible?" she gasped, her eyes wide with disbelief.
