Chapter 8: Chapter 7
With a little bit more pep than usual, I skip my way down to the hangout center. The August breeze hit my skin, as I open the door. Even though I see the usual scene of the trees playing with Georgie, I still have shivers up my spine.
Holding my hands behind my back and whistling out a tune, I walk up to him. "nice day we're having, isn't it?" I shout even though he's having gigantic earphones. He's seems to be in deep concentration mode as he studies hard at his writing ; whatever that might be.
"Yes, it is." He says quietly still concentrated on his work. Leaning against the tree, the sound of the breeze tickle my ear. "Can I stay?"
"Depends."
"On what?"
"On how quiet you can be while you sit with me."
I scoot down next to him while not saying one word as we let the silence pass.
He slides his earphones around his neck as he takes them off, and he puts his work down.
He scratches his head awkwardly, " So what kind of conversation did you want to make?"
My heart is pounding in my chest, as I try and stay calm; I twitch my lips to the side as I remember exactly what I wanted.
"What music is your taste?" I had leaned into his face. Shock evident on his face he backs away at that , as he's hesitant at that.
I don't quite understand why he would be, He shakes his head and stares off into the ground, "Can we do something else instead?"
I'm disappointed, yet I relent. He talks about his home life in London as he also talks about his home life here and I talk about my home life here in New York.
It's been only precisely 30 seconds yet he still decides to get up. "I'm going to go now."
Feeling down, yet I get up as well. "Are you sure? Was it something that I had said?"
Somehow already getting his stuff , he smiles as he shakes his head. Then he runs off. "Give me time!"
I reach a hand out, " But I don't Have that kind of time I whisper.
If I needed to get out of here ASAP, then this friendship thing needed to be molded ASAP.
How ever I was going to keep it grow it and build it is future me's problem.
"That is the problem."
"Sapnap we have been through this."
Sap nap and I are at the batting cage as he works on his swinging. He holds one which is marked with roughed and scratches as he clides with the hard ball.
We watch the pitiful ball as it tastes the solid cage. It falls to the ground, letting us drink in the imaginary steam trailing off from it.
He gets in the position to batter up for the next one, "look all I'm saying is, if you like him so much, why not ask him out?"
" I'm not looking for romance, and even if I was he would easily run away."
"It's up to you my man might even be surprised."
He strongly swings and smacks the ball. it clashes against the cage, slowly falling to the ground and passing out.
"Even if we were romantic, I would be messing up badly; he needs someone else, not me."
"You're an amazing person that's so sweet and charming, who cares?"
He strikes another one. I play with my bracelet as I say," Yeah thanks."
He stands up straight lowering his bat, what's wrong?
"He's going to find out sooner isn't he?"
"I wouldn't be surprised if he did."
He hit his last ball for today.
It's a little bit sad to think about that in just a short amount of time I'll be gone. As if Florida would miss me, anyway. At least my mom and my friends miss me, But it's still sad to think that Georgie doesn't really know me well enough to miss me.
It's like, nothing's gonna change on his end.
It is nice to know, however, that the rest of my week is spent with Georgie. Even if these days were spent with silent scenarios, Small conversations here in there, and, "Come here, I want to show you something."
Did I incline to follow a voice of a mysterious man? Yes , yes I did.
