Chapter 21: Chapter 21: Dan Heng: The Stone Axe is Much Better Than Cloud-Piercer
Fu Zhu watched the two girls frolicking and running wildly across the snow, shaking his head helplessly. After equipping his leather boots, he went about his own business.
He needed to gather enough logs before going mining. Ideally, he'd gather half an inventory's worth at once, ensuring he wouldn't lack wood for a long time to come.
While chopping trees, Fu Zhu didn't forget to craft a furnace on the spot, place it down, and start smelting charcoal inside.
"Hey, you two, come back and warm yourselves by the fire when you're tired. Don't work up a sweat and end up catching a cold."
Fu Zhu shouted towards the pair playing in the snow, but only received a distant "Got it!" in reply.
Dan Heng didn't join the two girls in their play. Instead, he walked over to Fu Zhu's side, observed his actions for a while, and then asked a question.
"Need help?"
Seeing free labor arrive at his doorstep, Fu Zhu naturally wouldn't refuse. He turned around, crafted a stone axe from the crafting table, and handed it to Dan Heng.
"Then I'll trouble you, Dan Heng. We don't need too many logs; just keep chopping until the stone axe breaks will be enough."
"Breaks?"
Dan Heng lowered his head and examined the stone axe Fu Zhu had thrust upon him. From its appearance, the craftsmanship was quite crude. There was no visible fastening mechanism connecting the axe head to the handle; it felt like some sort of mortise and tenon joint. Even so, he was still worried that applying even a little force would break the axe head off.
Besides, this was a stone axe. Could it really be used to chop trees?
Dan Heng couldn't help but turn his head, wanting to see how Fu Zhu exerted force, managing to chop trees while ensuring the stone axe remained undamaged. Instead, he saw Fu Zhu punching the tall trees, one fist after another.
Although the sound of his fists colliding with the trees was loud, the snow accumulated on the treetops didn't show the slightest sign of shaking.
This made Dan Heng suspect that Fu Zhu might be employing some kind of advanced power exertion technique.
He watched for quite a while, until Fu Zhu had cleared a patch of the forest barehanded. Finally, Dan Heng couldn't resist asking.
"Fu Zhu, how should I use this stone axe? Is it sturdy?"
Hearing Dan Heng's question, Fu Zhu turned his head and nodded with a smile: "Just use it without worry. As long as its usage count hasn't reached its limit, no one can destroy it."
"Is that so..."
Dan Heng nodded, casually picked a tree, and swung the axe. The tree trunk trembled violently, yet he barely felt any force rebounding back at him, and the axe head showed no signs of damage.
He tried using a bit more force, but the result was the same. What surprised Dan Heng even more was that, regardless of how much force he used, as long as he used this stone axe, he could easily chop down a section of this large tree.
However, the remaining upper section of the tree simply remained suspended in mid-air, looking somewhat peculiar.
Half an hour later, Fu Zhu had finally filled half his inventory with logs. These logs would last him at least until they reached the next planet.
The next thing to tackle was various minerals. He wasn't asking for much; at the very least, he needed a full diamond set before leaving Jarilo-VI. Otherwise, venturing out in Hardcore Mode offered no sense of security.
Dan Heng, having returned after helping Fu Zhu chop wood, couldn't help but ask for advice.
"Fu Zhu, can you craft spear-type weapons?"
After using the MC-special stone axe, his Cloud-Piercer suddenly felt a bit lacking.
Fu Zhu thought for a moment then shook his head: "Can't craft them yet."
Before installing mods, the types of weapons he could make were limited. If he installed mods like Spartan Weapons, crafting a spear wouldn't be difficult.
"However, if I have the materials later, I can help enhance your weapon."
Although he couldn't directly craft a brand-new weapon for Dan Heng, enchanting his current weapon was definitely possible.
Speaking of enchanting, Fu Zhu suddenly thought of something. With MC integrated into this different world, could he perhaps enchant any item at will?
Like in 'Annoying Village' [Minecraft Villager News reference], enchanting doors with strange enchantments, or perhaps enchanting the Astral Express with Mending?
Fu Zhu felt he should definitely try this later. He sensed he hadn't fully tapped into all the characteristics of MC yet; it might hold quite a few surprises for him.
.....
After a simple rest in the woods, the group set off again. They needed to reach their destination before the blizzard arrived; otherwise, Fu Zhu's only option would be to build a house on the spot to pass the night.
While traveling, Fu Zhu didn't forget to check his unlockable achievements. He discovered that the available achievements differed depending on his location.
For example, back at the Herta Space Station, there had been an achievement requiring him to shut down the power of all the delivery robots on the station.
Now, having arrived on Jarilo-VI, the achievement list had changed.
[An Exc-'ice'-ting Adventure: Obtain 1024 Snowballs]
[Reward Achievement Points: 5]
There were many achievements like this. Moreover, the achievement list not only provided a way to gain Achievement Points but also revealed some local information.
For instance, the achievement [Forcing the Belobog Tram to Stop] at least let Fu Zhu know that there was still a civilization clinging to existence on this planet blanketed by the Eternal Freeze.
After casually glancing at the achievement list, Fu Zhu took out his stone shovel and dug into the snow layer.
Instantly, the group, who had been walking steadily on the snow layer, suddenly felt the ground give way beneath their feet and fell straight down.
Fortunately, the snow layer Fu Zhu had dug away wasn't very deep, only about two meters. No one was injured, but Xing and March 7th, having suffered this unwarranted disaster, looked at Fu Zhu with wronged expressions.
"Bro, what are you doing now?"
Fu Zhu smiled sheepishly at the two of them; he had forgotten to turn off Vein Miner.
"Sorry, sorry, my mistake. I originally wanted to show you something fun."
Fu Zhu distributed snowballs to the three. March 7th and Dan Heng both accepted them readily. Through their brief time together, they had reached a conclusion:
No matter what it was, as long as Fu Zhu gave it, it definitely had some magical property!
Xing, on the other hand, crossed her arms with a pout.
"I'm past the age for throwing snowballs! Nowadays, I only build snowmen on fire hydrants!"
Fu Zhu's eyebrow rose, and he flicked his hand, sending a snowball straight into Xing's face.
"Aiya!"
Xing yelped, stumbled, and sat down on the ground with a plop. She looked at Fu Zhu, somewhat dumbfounded.
"Bro, did you really have to use that much force?"
Fu Zhu toyed with the snowball in his hand, a faint smile playing on his lips as he spoke to Xing.
"Oh, I didn't use any force. This isn't an ordinary snowball. While it can't cause damage, it can forcefully inflict knockback. Are you sure you don't want a snowball like this?"
Xing calmly stood up, patted the fine snow from her skirt, and pointed righteously at Fu Zhu.
"A woman remains a maiden until death! Therefore, I am still at the age for playing with snowballs!"
